man, just watched the video of them trying to cut it, why isn;t he putting it flat to the blade of the bolt cutters, he must be having a laugh does he not think anyone would notice ???

shocking to think that he knows it would snip straight through without much pressure, that kind of thing on dragons den would end
up with them throwing him down the metal stairs, get out………..

hate to poo poo it, but you could get through that in seconds, wtf is Ti Gr , titanium graphite ???

hmmm thats new, or is a bit of it Gr and the rest Ti ???,

nothing like seeing a lump of Ti burn, wonder if you could just set the strap alight stand
    back and watch the glow,

Ti isn’t cheap to work either, think this may be a fail, nice try though

    yep peterfile,

your right why wait and save for something when you can use someone else’s cash to pay for it and have it now,

hey wait a minute! Isn’t that what everyone keeps doing thus triggering a banking and financial crisis
that has caused all these austerity measures that everyone is struggling with ?

as for my reasoning i think i would rather own a pile of parts that equal a bike than borrow the money
    to pay for one,

just trying to help the guy and keep him from going down the same road as a lot of other citizens,

shoot me down for suggesting it !!!!!

    old fashioned maybe ?
    😀

    Jakeclyro,

You should just buy a bit at a time, decide what you want frame and forks wise, then save for the frame ,buy it then do the same with the forks, then decide on the kit, if you can afford say 50 quid a month, well that would buy a chain, or a cassette, maybe a chain and some grips, each week either buy a part or wait two weeks and buy a bigger part,

presto before you know it you will have a bedroom full of bike bits, then bolt it all together, thats the bit i like and off you go, no cc to pay of loan to clear etc, it’s your bike ,enjoy and ride,

i could pay for a bike full out from my savings but i find it better to do it this way myself, it’s a good lesson in patience and you will end up with exactly what you desire,

don’t forget in these hard times if you borrow, you will be paying say for a 1k bike around 1.4k back, if you can’t afford to spend 1k it’s madness to spend 1.4k ,

    good luck,

been following this for a few days and it has become apparent Jon,you are a total muppet as the others have pointed out,

i ride hardtails because i like being involved, my full susser is never out the shed unless its snowing then i take it because it’s IMO my worst bike and deserves the salt,

my last hardatil cost me 4k to build,

I didn’t go hardtail because i couldn’t afford a bouncer, i have 8k of hardtails all built by myself from the ground up (not exactly difficult as it’s only a bike so i’m not bragging)

Lots of my mates prefer full bouncers and you know what, that’s fine, if that’s what they like to ride then great,
we all ride together, have loads of fun and do the same stuff,

just last week we had a bit of a race to the bottom of the brickhill woods down christina, i couldn’t get close to one of the guys on his bouncer as he was just too quick for me but i had another with a helmet cam just behind me most of the way down, but he just didn’t have enough pace to pass, now we got to the bottom in this order, bouncer-hardtail-bouncer-hardtail-bouncer,

and you know what else , we didn’t sit round spouting which was best and which was quickest once we got to the bottom, we just all had a laugh at our antics and made a date for our next meet in a week,

    conclusion is,
some people just like to talk the talk like yourself,

us others, mainly the stw massive and the real bike riders of the world , just do it, regardless of ability, funds, likes ,dislikes, styles, kit etc.

so shut your spouting trap and get on with it,

I went through the same quandry, really wanted the Bfe but ended up with the sov after also looking at the alpine,

Don’t regret it, the finish on the sov is second to none, with huge attention to detail, lovely welds, tube ends, drop outs, and a really solid drive side tube,

the cotic is also IMO of a superior finish with nice pipes made of 853 as we know and a great paint job in blue,

the alpine i felt was not quite as nicely done as the others but then the price is a lot more inviting and in the flesh they do look great in green and look a lot lighter than my sov,

it took me a few weeks to decide but the one thing i can say for sure is i love my evil , it never fails to feel special and you can really launch it, i run 36 vans and the handling and steering are still so sharp it staggers belief and at the same time still climbs like a monkey,

good luck with your choice i think you will be happy with either of those three its just a case of what you fancy spending.

    StuF,

Don’t fall for the old lines about plastic windows, my sashes are 96yrs old this year it only takes a few weekends of hard graft to paint them every two years, they all open and are perfectly balanced, look great, don’t have drafts (if you fit draft excluders or get ventrolla to do it), it only takes me 2 minutes to take them out as the left bead and the cords are detachable ( i don’t even need the misses to hold them while i do it) and will give me another 100 yrs of service virtually FOC,

I look forward to the day all the upvc windows start to fail and crack or yellow and go brittle,

    plastic+rubber+wind+rain+snow+sun+time= massive fail

    go cheap pay twice,

the thing that really bugs me about plastic windows is how cheap and easy they are to produce with no skill base required they are nearly always installed by idiots who fill all the gaps with cheap easy to use filler but yet you pay such a high premium ???,

and before anybody starts, one of my mates has a company that manufactures and fits these monstrosities
and they are assembled in a barn on a dirty farm, he sells a lot and makes a lot of money.

I had 7 rotten cills, around 4 windows glass broken and replaced with ‘new’ pilkington non-safety glass, around 4 bars replaced and draft excluders added to all windows (9 in total), cost me around 4K took, 2 weeks by Ventrolla, worth every penny,

put plastic in and you will de-value your house, plus they look crap,

i paint once every 2 yrs, its a chore but at least they look right,

not quite sure about some of the comments above, if you want to buy a nice watch i think you shouldn’t rule out a brand like rolex, it isn’t compulsary to shove your watch in peoples faces when you greet them so does it really matter if it’s a brand that is instantly recongnisable,

also i paid £3K for my brand spanking ‘Z’ series Rolex sea dweller, had a valuation done last week, it’s now worth between 4.5-4.7K.

    just a thought

wow this is just the best thread ever,

i had a yellow chopper in 1977 i think, until i got a team peugeot racing bike which started a interest in the dark side which lasted until i bought a second hand commando off a friend, on of my mates had a team murray bmx and that was me then,

first bmx: red burner like the one above,
    second bmx: chrome burner,
then first mountain bike in 1987 i think: diamond back accent ex.

i think my favourite was always my first burner.

    i buy mine at ‘ internet opticians.co.uk’

had a few pairs from him on the custom program , still have both pairs,

the best way to judge if they are fake is if they are cheaper than the above guys prices, price is usually
the best indication as you would have to be an idiot to undercut everyone else by such a large margin,

pile of hype, we have been using those same rapid prototype techniques with a certain company i cannot name for fear of you lot grassing me up again,

does british companies no good in my opinion to spout crap like that on tv, even my dentist was mouthing off about it this morning, ‘oh arn’t we clever, look at what we can do’ made me feel as sick as that rubbish in the papers about the capture of the sas team, not quite sure how they were meant to make contact wihout getting captured,

god there is some rubbish on the news, rant over

Hope to me are the guys who phoned me at work quite unexpectedly after i had asked them by email how to rebuild a tech lever, (my work email hence containing my work no.s),

fantastic customer service unequalled anywhere imo,

as an engineer who runs a large cnc machineshop for a livivng i was most impressed with the thought that had gone into manufacture of the tech lever, well thought out and executed in a precise manner by using a 5 axis mill if I’m not mistaken, which to me shows a high level of investment in machinery and a very high level of skill,

2 of my bikes run hope brakes M4 and V2, and headsets, 1 runs hubs and seat clamp too, would be more than happy to buy more from them, and i love the racket of the rear hub,

proud of them as a british company, well done men, carry on

I used bulldog poncy moisturiser but I will give the stick ago, just checked the other blades I have are Israeli crystal platinum , did feel some burn around my neck directly after using the derbys but the moisturiser sorted that,
Can’t stop feeling my face very amazed by the cut,

I had a weeks growth to come off, I normally would have used fusion 4 blade and it would clog after each 1-2” stroke , you would then spend 20 seconds rinsing it and then go for another hack, the jagger just cut straight though right down to the skin on each stroke no clogging , why the hell does anyone buy those multi head razors ?

I got some of those Israeli blades myself just trying the derby first , I got a alum stick but won’t be using it unless I hack a lump out ,

    The following works for me:
    Edwin jagger ivory db razor
    Edwin jagger pure badger brush
    Arko soap stick
    Bowl of hot water
    15 mins of time
    1 pack of derby blades

if you look at both world wars you should notice a big reduction in arms and men before the outbreak of both wars, this reduction is more than likely one of the catalysts for the aggression to begin,

that on itself is a worrying thought,

but the world has changed, one single trident sub hidden in the worlds seas should be enough to deter most intelligent countries from launching any kind of major aggressive action,

i hate to say it but China is the biggest threat imo, but i don’t think they will ever have to resort to military action, i think the biggest, most populace and soon to be the most able superpower will need to fire a single shot to conquer the world, trade will do that,

quick learn mandarin before it’s too late, were all domed !!!!!
