Not was issues in 1st…I had issues in 3rd and 5th but that was down to the wrong cassette joint being fitted.

Went from a 3×8 to a 1×11…can’t say I miss the 3x though do find it hard picking the right gear now…..

Is that the same Sachs who made engines? They made a nice portable rotary engine.

Google confirms it is, happy to learn something that links 2 of my hobbies…

This is where it is at!!

They seem to work perfectly, but i emailed bedrock and they had no issues on postage to the UK but it was $35 for a $30 product and then you have VAT and probably a £13 charge from parcelforce. It just wasn’t worth it.

I’d buy a UK made version.

Isn’t it just a bit of bent aluminium with some velcro and straps stuck to it?

A rectangle of Alu with 2 slots cut by a dremmel or similar so you can feed a strap through, bend the ends in then put velcro on top, job done.

I just use a compression strap between the seat rails and tighten it up, loads better than the supplied cheap and nasty clips on my Altura seat pack which has broke yet again….

Just revisiting this idea as I’ve been muddling it around in my head for sometime.

I don’t really want to sell the Swift but don’t need another MTB, my kaffenback is a bit utilitarian but what to be expected, only one can stay. I don’t race but was looking at doing somethings like the Dorset gravel dash and other sort things on whatever is created, the swift just gives me that choice for wide tyres if needed.

As I struggle a bit on my climbs to work last one is 20 degree climb in places (read fattie) My choices are to keep the Kaffenback and fit a bigger cassette/mtb mech combo or drop bar the swift with the Alfine 8…. I did enjoy my rides with the alfine but didn’t try it on the road really, was looking at going 40T x 16T rear.

    Alfine vs 11-36 (possible)

I don’t really get into the top gears on the Kaff but spend most my time in the 50T chainring, so not sure if I would miss the last few cogs..

I’m just worried about spending out on the Swift then wishing I had a few more gears….

might be mad , might just be bored at home on sick leave…..I would love the Cannondale Slate at my LBS but over £2k for a bike is a bit nuts for me….

    PS sorry for rambling on……

We still bear the scars of our mining past down here in Cornwall.
Camborne School of Mines is still going and South Croft is test drilling when they are not in administration….

Quite interesting the decline from one of the richest counties to the poorest…. we’re still mineral rich down here but no one want to put money behind digging it out, they would rather import tin and copper.

best displayed in museums ……and traction engines.

Wo wo wo leave the traction engines out of it! Traction engines and the like are best seen in steam not sat cold in a building.

Thanks Nedrapier, going to look into this more once my wrist is healed, my frame now looks like it could use a new EBB insert, threads look a bit worse for wear, so thats another job…..
Going to try and use my Alfine as well, there is a few shifter options now.

Damn…. I’m going to see how wide I can go on my road/CX wheels, as my 29ers are built up with an Alfine and while I could get it to work I’m not sure if will give me the best range for commuting in Cornwall. Might be able to sell/swap it for a normal rear wheel to swap out when I want to go fatter….

I went 1×11 on my XC mtb and hated it. I had the range, but constantly felt I was in the wrong gear in the middle of the cassette.

I’ve noticed that on my 1×11 not quite hated it but preferred the wide range of the Alfine 8.

Drop bars seem to work with the Swift.

Drop bar 29ers – Gryphon or Swift?

Oh right I was under the impression 32c was as wide as you could go.

New cables will be needed due to the way the Kaff runs them.

I wish they would spend some money on the SW trains….London to Bristol seems fast enough then you go back to the 90’s to Plymouth then you get on a Deltic to PZ…. thats if the weather is good and you can get past the coast.

OP – Like it! I’m sure enjoying my chubby wheeled beast, I’m sure glad our RADAR works better than Bike Radar!

I confess to being a little chubby curious, but i just don’t think the endless fettling with tyre pressures/tyre’s/rims is for me. I have my doubts whether these ‘standards’ will be around long term but I’m keen to hear more first hand comparisons between the 29/vs 27+ .

It is a lovely looking bike though, the semi chubb just looks right on some bikes.

I switched from a 7 years with 29ers to 650+ and don’t regret it, been faster, more aggressive and all done in more comfort than on my old 29er. So far I’m still running tubes as I don’t get out that often to warrant tubeless and risk the sealer clumping up. I’ve not faffed about with the pressures really, dropped it from what the shop had it set and then dropped a bit more but since I got it set I’ve not touched it. They are great fun and I hope they last!

Looks like a homage to what Sam’s been doing for years. Similar silhouette and geometry, and aside from the build spec, similar aesthetics.

I was wondering what this brought to the table over Sam’s Swift except for sliding drop outs over EBB? Would seem they are a bit late to the party with it, the addition of a tapered head tube might have made them a bit different but as is the tried and tested Swift would seem the better option, unless you like the colours of the Big Bro.

I’ve already for the Alfine all built up with rapid fire shifter, but don’t really want to mount it inboard if I do decide to convert the Swift from a MTB for a Commuter bike, I could always switch my 2×10 SRAM Apex over but I fancy keeping the Alfine.
