Failed to unclip on my road bike at the lights. Tiped over onto my side- hands still on bars and clipped in. Did this infront of a very busy street. I had a massive crowed come and help me. Bleading knee and elbow plus massive bruise. Full clad in a condom suit as well. By the time I got up the light turned red AGAIN so I had to stand at the lights for another couple minutes before I could make my escape 😳

Still not sure why it happend? Maybe I was just tiered.

I’ve tried some 26” and 29” wheels in my 27.5” revelations. The 26” fits with a big fat tyre and has some good mud clearance which is nice and the 29” wheel fits in with a small tyre. Semms like the perfect comprimise fork.. Good for summer and good for winter.

I’m currently riding the WTB i23 rim on my 650b. I’ve not had much time on them but they feel great and can’t say they feel any different from my flows. They seem to have a similer profile and weight to flows so I’d think they are like-for-like. Tubless ready too.

Not much help but I’m setting up my 27.5” i23 rim tubeless next weekend. I’m running a crossmark rear and ardent front both folding. Not sure how this will end…

I thought the same as you when I was gearing up for uni. Turns out there was plenty of time to ride and even though my room was tiny I managed to take 3 bikes (and 2 surf boards)- 2 behind the door and 1 under the bed. I lived in Falmouth and I looovveed it. Enjoy it!

The new pikes are coming. They are pretty close but I think they are air only.

I need to give the bike some abuse first before I start changing bits.
The only thing being fitted (for now) is the hilo dropper.

I couldn’t help myself. It’s rare for me to gel with a bike so quickly. I’m happy with these bars (at 730mm). I can’t tell the difference.

    Stem is 70mm (19” has a 90mm).

Frame weighs 5.6 lbs with headset cups, seatclamp and dropouts (200g). So it’s nothing too luxurious.

Im 173cm and bike weighs 27.6lbs. Nice surprise was that it came with the type 2 x9.

Hurry though! I believe I got one of the last 17” in the country.

I often get 52 mpg driving country roads/ dual caridge way into town in the 2l diesel be toureg. Lovely car to drive and swallows up 3 bikes with weeks kit and 3 people in comfort.

Kona Explosif 650B? I rode one yesterday and was very impressed. Going to pick mine up Saturday. AWCycles in Reading has a 19” demo version. If you like the look of it then I’d strongly consider demoing one. If you are near Newbury you can ride my 17”.

I’d personally go for XTR because the replacement parts are cheaper, its a proven system and I love XTR shifters. XTR will also give you a better range and only weighs a tiny amount more..

If money was no issues I think I’d still get XTR. The freehub body for a ProII will set you back an additional £65. It all adds up..

The one in the photo is 15” or 17”.

Edit: Wheelbase and other sites are using a photoshopped ’12 Honzo frame. All Explosifs have a straight ST.

I test rode this today- great bike! AWCycles in Reading has a 19” test bike. I took it out without any view on 27.5/650b because there hasn’t been much about them in the media that I’ve read. The bike is very nicely finished and the raw frame with orange decals is to die for. Love it!

The bike handled very nicely and felt neutral- good climber and fun descender. It was happy enough to get the back end out and even manual (despite the wrong size). The wheel size felt different but also strangely familiar (this makes no sense, I know). I’ve been riding 29ers lately but grew up on 26” and this wheelsize feels nice and it slots into the middle nicely. I need a 17” so the TT (with longer stem) felt a big long but I still had great fun. Weight is 28lbs in the 19” size stock which I think is very reasonable considering the steel frame, etc.

I test rode the whyte t129s straight after. I know they are very different bikes but I just wanted to jump on a 29er straight away to see the difference. I see why 27.5” was made. It seems to slot nicely into the wheelsize group.

If any one is looking at the Kona I’d grab a test ride. Brilliant fun. Just forget about the wheelsize whilst you ride it. 120mm travel seems perfect for the bike and the geometry is spot on. It’s just dying for a dropper..

(I only went in to have a ride and ended up leaving £1500 lighter and not with the road bike that I had in mind. Picking it up at the end of the week.)

    * Disclaimer: This is just what I thought. Different wheelsizes suit different people. I’m no salesman. I don’t care what wheelsize/bike you’re riding as long as you’re riding.*

That jag reminds me of a car in Cov. Some guy has painted his BMW M3 (06) in matt black and finished the grills, bonnet intakes and alloys in shiny baby blue.

Its on Far Gosford Street if any one fancies having a look!

Looks lovely! I’ve got a test ride booked to check out this 650b stuff..

17” frame weight with dropouts, clamp and headset cups= 5.73lbs
    17” complete stock build= 27.9 lbs

I pack my shimano BBs with grease twice a year (before winter and after) and they have lasted very well.

I weighed my Yelli Screamy Medium frame with headset and seatclamp and it was 2102g. Very reasonable.

(Could just buy mine.. same price as the FF29 with a headset 😆 )

I’ve ridden the stinky 2-4 when I was younger. I think it was when they first came out(?). I remember being over the moon when riding it. Felt like endless amount of travel after riding my rigid HT. I found it energy sapping (not that bad) on flat but on anything remotely down it was such fun. Plus I felt like a bad man riding it 8)

Not sure what I’ve done right but I’m currently running 4 shimano BBs (all XT) that have been perfect. One has lasted 2+ years and two have lasted 1+ years. I just take the tophats off and pack them with grease at the beginning of winter and once winter has gone. Still run smooth and had no issues. Downside is that there is more friction from the packed BBs but this is not really noticeable to me.

I always pack everything that has bearings with grease though and have all lasted a very long time.

Bikes get used a various amount from 3-6 days a week to once every other week but they have all seen hell for prolonged periods of time.

You’re disappointed? I just weighed my Yelli Screamy and its 29.5lbs. It’s a good spec and still awaiting a dropper. I reckon they filled the frame with lead.

Is it currently running a 180mm disc? If yes then you should be okay. Might need to adjust the number of washers to get the right spacing.

If its running a 160mm disc then you’ll need a new brake mount.

b r- firstly the speeds are average. Secondly I’d like to see you go any faster than 40mph on the roads I drive. Factor in a few villages.

I’ve always thought about this. When I drive my mums Touran 2L diesel I get better MPG when doing 35mpg than 25mph on a 10 mile trip (average). I always try and get the highest MPG so no bias on speed. Using the gears I usual sit at 1800 rpm. I average between 58-63mpg @35mph vs. 54-58mpg @25mph. This is on country roads that are flat-ish. It baffles me.

Nearly finished. Just waiting on a chainring, brakemount and wheelset.

*First world problem: Can’t decide what wheelset to put on the yelli and chumba. I’ve got some flows and some arch EX. Ideas?*
