What is your nearest station and where abouts do you work?

    Bus/car: £3.50/return/day x 5 (days)= £17.50/week
    x 48 (weeks)= £840/yr

    Bike: £135/yr (consumable/service) + £150/yr (extra food) + £100/yr (clothing/other)= £335/yr (Or £6.98/week, £1.39/day, £0.14/mile).

    Total Saving= £505/yr

    -Plus I save 1hr/day cycling vs car/bus.
    – Plus I save money on water/electric by showering at work.
    – Only 10 miles/day trip so probably don’t eat any more anyway.

Embarrassing for O-O/P-X when an ordered from a German budget online store arrives sooner despite ordering later… and they actually answer their phone.

    Roughly £230 a week for everything (£920/m).
Leaves me with £80 a month disposable and £300 month savings.

Very fiery relationship, not going to lie. Makes it more fun though (mostly).

Thanks for peoples perspectives. Interesting to hear how others do things.

I think I’ll discuss having a joint account.
Then everything we earn goes into the one account and then whatevers left at the end of the month is halved between us (savings, fun).
    Sound sensible?

Cougar- she is the one earning more. I was just answering a question of ‘what if I was in her shoes’

Those with joint accounts- how does this work?
Do you both pay your salary into the same account?

Those commenting on her paying for half my bike.
Her response to me asking that is that it would be equivalent to me paying half her car. Seems fair to me.

Edit: No I wouldn’t ask her to, as I’m earning £1.5k more, which would cover the cost.

I paid for myself with a Career Development Loan. I’ve never relied on her financially.

We have had a long distance relationship until last year, with neither of us sharing costs until then as we didn’t live together. We only shared holidays, etc. We both had (student) loans. I think it’s me just getting used to everything being shared.

Also, English is my second language so thanks for the pointers.

The thing is I commute by bike to save money. I could easily drive a motorbike to work everyday for the £1200 cost, (Edit:)or even a car.

I think a joint account is a fantastic idea actually. I’ll mention that over dinner.

    Okay, cheers everyone.
Spoke to my brother who seemed horrified that I should pay it which got me thinking.

    I’ll just pay.

    Thanks for the replies.

1- we share all other bills 50/50
2- She earns about £1.5k more than me (really dosent bother me).
We both have similar costs- shes paying the same on her car as I am for my MSc fees.

    Probably should just pay.

Yes, they made a big difference with my 29er rebas.
Everything stayed the same apart from the fork (warranty job).
I could 100% tell the difference. I wasn’t even bothered when first installing. Didn’t think it would make a difference, but it did.

Just about to finish a ht build with fox forks, xt group set, dropper and hope hoops for 1450. Seems the going price for this sort of spec but I got to chose my parts that suit me better.

Hit some ice on my commuter today. Around a corner under a bridge. Missed the parked cars by inches. I did laugh to myself for about 10 mins after though. Probably cause I didn’t do much damage and because I it was sort of fun… 3 crashes in 6 weeks of starting my new job commuting.

I had a steroid injection to help with the pain in my elbow following a fracture. I’m comfortable around needles and doctors. In goes the needle and she starts moving it around in my joint. She was poking around in there for a good 3 minutes. Felt like a life time. Suddenly I just felt like throwing up and I just sweated profusely. I was drenched. Not sure why? Shock? It was one of the worst experiences of my life. Fracturing it was nothing compared to this. Weird.

I’ve had two offs in the 4 weeks of starting my new job.

1- tried to manuel the commuter after a few days ownership with a crappy rear brake (that I forgot about) and went straight off the back onto my ass and arm. Clipped in with bike on top of me. Horrific bruising, broken rear light and smashed bell.

2- Went around a mini roundabout, slowly, and somehow washed out. Think it must of been diesel. Cant work out how else it could of happened. Impaled on keys and some lovely bruising.

Look forward to what the future may hold 😕

Has any one got a link/more info?
I think it’s a reasonable price for a novel experience.

Have they resolved the paint issue?

Strictly 9.7 miles (all in) but I can stretch it out to 30+ miles.
Means whilst its raining and freezing I can make it in 20 minutes as long as I miss the train barriers, but when it gets light I can stretch it out nicely.

I have some unfortunate news about the new Gryphons (and Swifts). I still have no definite date for delivery. There was an issue which came up during CEN testing, which has meant every frame has needed to have a gusset added under the headtube/downtube junction and then be re-painted. This of course all takes time – and of course your safety is paramount! I will be getting all pre-ordered frames air freighted so that those people with money down wait as little time as possible. In the mean-time I am taking no more pre-orders until I have a definite delivery date on the main stock. I’m really sorry for the delay, I’m doing everything I can to get the frames here as soon as possible.

The 650b Explosif looks like a fun bike

Most fun bike I’ve owned. Close second is the charge blender but this can actually be ridden for miles. Covered 1,900 miles since Easter on it. Only thing I’d sell it for is the Ti version.
