Hmm yeah a little far. I’ll keep an eye on Swindon.

Swinley itself would be a good location, but I believe the new bike shop isn’t keen on it (obviously).

    Axminster sounds perfect, thanks.

Ah ok hadn’t noticed they came with presta adapters.

Thanks Steve. Hmm everyday riding is woodsy singletrack.

Love the krampus, but sounds like the Jones would be better overall for me. I need to go and ride a Jones (plus) and weigh up the differences between diamond and spaceframe.

My Krampus has Jones bars on too actually. I do love it but feel sat on top of the bike though, which isn’t so good on the steep stuff. I believe the Jones is different.

How tall? I’m 6’2 so a bit unsure what size/length to get.

I’m liking the Lizard skin stuff I just put got.

I planned a route from Bournemouth to Brighton a while back I seem to remember, via part of the SDW then the Isle of Wight. From what I remember it looked like it’d be good. I must get around to riding it…

Eastbourne (pier) to London via the BHF route in reverse, then to Greenwich via sustrans route along Ravensbourne river. Head (east) along the southern side of the Thames and get a lift across Dartford bridge (I think they do this still), then pick up the BHF London 2 Southend route (for novices). Lap of Hadleigh, then on to the pier.

Not a great part of Essex to ride though tbh. Much easier to navigate and be quite nice, would be to just follow the Kent coastline?

Wouldn’t be too hard to remove the bulkhead I think. Less faff than having seats put in anyway. It’s so much quieter with a bulkhead though, just like a car, I love it.

airport baggage reclaim. stand a foot or so back from the line around the belt, then more people can easily see, and fit, at least if we all did it, and just step forward and grab the bag as it goes by. but no. stand in front of me, i’m just passing the time of day, after all….

Ohh this winds me up too. There is even a painted line to tell people where to stand ffs. Glad it’s not just me. I reach through, grab my bag and drag it through the crowd. Who probably don’t notice as they are so oblivious.

Trolleys in supermarkets too, argh… Oh god I’m getting infuriated now as I’m thinking about people who don’t indicate when driving, or don’t acknowledge me when I’ve let them in/out, or when I’ve held the door open, or they remember they’ve forgotten something when the cashier has rung up their shop, or…. (walks away to calm down)

(comes back a bit later) No flaming from me, I want to congratulate you (op). Common problem at trail centres though, and only replaced by pedestrians out in the wild though.

Yes I am an intolerant sod.

Hmm, tried the software last night, which seemed to be going ok, but it won’t complete it due to some connectivity issue with something. Bike shop it is then.

    Connections all seem ok.
Will go and look for the etube software, thanks.

Tried different charging ports, methods etc but good to know. Thanks.

Sorry meant it’s the first 11 speed one, I assume (6870).

Will take it down to the bike shop then (closed tomorrow though) and see what the computer says then.

Definitely seems like the battery is stuffed. Hope it’s just that.

Thanks. Should the light stay on (green) when both levers are held? It does for a second, then goes off.

I had a quick look for the software but looks like you gotta pay (nearly £200) for it and the box, is that right?

    It’s the old/original version I assume.

    Cheers

I’ve got a Witter 404 I need to sell. Only used once or twice until I got my van, so its like new. Fits 4 bikes properly (rather than 3+1) and tilts. Based in the south east if you’re interested.

They have stopped doing the Anthem in 29. Daft I think as it’s perfect for long distance marathon type riding and still technically capable.

I think I’m going to sell mine though. Don’t really want to, but I barely used it last year, due to having too many new bikes and not competing. Large. X1.

    Mail me.

Thanks. I like YHA’s and the Kent place looks ok but my friends have posh tastes and it’s a 40th, so we need something slightly fancy. I wanted to try and find somewhere so I’m not paying 1 months worth of mortgage for 1 weekend away!

Like SP says. My CX which is fast & fun but you have to be careful on the techy stuff. You don’t with a monster. Yes a racey hardtail is very similar, but I always tend and feel like I want to ride faster on a drop bar bike. They look cool as well ;-)

Turner guy, what’s the out front bar mount for the satmap? I like the sound of that.

I find it the best device for navigation, but it is bulky.

Sram bag. Not sure you can still get them and they are pricey. Planet x do a bag which looks ok. Not sure it’s got a specific shoe bit though. Will do soon though, ordered one when it was discounted during black fortnight.

Yes you can adjust the feelers (they are both attached to a movable plate which bolts onto the extending arm).

I’m just not sure (can’t tell) where they need to be to be central to the hub.

Not too sure if any of my wheels are straight tbh

Thanks clop, that does look very nice. Stored for when/if I take Mrs STS along.

Stevelol – yeah that’s what I was talking about – would it work on the Jobsworth stand do you know?

    singletracksurfer

Wow, thanks that looks like it should do the job :-)

    No dials on my stand.

Yeah that’s why I wondered if a tool, like the park one, was any good for setting the stand up for different hubs.

Ok will try flipping the wheel. Maybe santa will need to bring me a dishing tool as well as a spoke tensioner gauge. Guess they’ll make life easier. God knows I need it.

Thought looking after my own wheels was going to save me money and hassle!

Yeah just one caliper is on the rim.

But also the rim is right over to one side of the white bar (which extends out and has the calipers on) but the wheel isn’t that wonky. Surely it should have both calipers come in equally otherwise it would be easy to true the wheel on the piss to one side.

I am a novice at truing wheels so kinda wanted it set up properly so it’s fool/idiot proof.

If you have kids get them to do some ‘fun’ detective work. Also it doesn’t belong to you just because it was delivered incorrectly, especially when you know it’s not for you so you could be ‘done’. The sender will probably just let you keep it in the end and send another. Hopefully to you again!

Don’t like cats so that’s a no-no. Hmm ok so the big car covers might not really work then, unless I get one which is like a curtain?

Yeah we both had Fords but she’s just got a different car which means I either feel bad or cold.

Will have to try some of the above over the week(s) and see what works.

    Cheers.

Topeak d2 is what I had concluded. Just wondered how accurate it was as it’s range is so wide. Still, the range would be handy if it’s true, as it’ll do fat bikes to air shocks.

    Thanks

Ah ok thanks. They probably thought it was downloaded so offered to load maps onto the new unit, but I’m sure I got the SD card separately. Thought I was going to end up with 2 units with maps on then :-(

I’d wait for the Fenix 5. That’ll be better. Or maybe the 6………

Only ‘cos I thought there was one due out soon & the software might be improved, and I’m in no great rush tbh.

I’m a bit like BWD in that I’m not sure how much I really need it (I have a Garmin 800, SatMap, full mapping on my phone and a HRM watch). I just kinda fancy having it all in one big gadgetty lump on my wrist ;-)

Is it only that long!? Ah ok then, I thought I’d heard of a new version which was expected to be out this year and going on my previous luck where I seem to buy the latest phone or gadget only to find a new one comes out the following week I thought I’d check ;-)

    Thanks.

Yeah my Krampus is 31 or 32 lbs I think. The Lamere can come in at around 21 lbs/9kg though. But at a price. Think Bonty may have mentioned that too / visited their website ;-)

    Thanks for the Travers info.

Can’t find any Chinese 29+ f&f’s online so if anyone knows more…
