ah ok I’ll bear that in mind, thanks.
I heard that the kind but…..eccentric Lord Bath allowed cycling there.

It looked fun but I only had my little un’s 8″ high bike with me.

    thanks Merman YGM.

yep thats right, didn’t get a reply (unless I missed it).

ah yes that bridleway might be a good bet from peep out – better than using the road I assume!

Was thinking that as it was a byway it might be nicer than using the road, but looking on google it does look confusing on the ground.

    training, not interested in racing.

Kinda wanted discs too for minimal faff etc too.

Is there much difference i.e. is road bike lighter and bigger gears?

Alarms definately seem the best way to scare them off, but note about IR sensor is that in sheds you get spiders wasps etc flying past them and seting them off all the time. Had to disconect mine due to all false alarms.

(door) Alarm scared some away from my shed just couple weeks ago. I would set up something a little more ‘shocking’ but have kids.

Guy got caught (after crashing a stolen motorbike) and 3rd time in court on account of multiple house burglaries and got his 3rd warning. Police said until the courts provide any deterant we can expect him back soon.

you can use a normal chain.

The Surly Singleator tensioner is good. I tried an on-one first but just couldn’t get it working proper. Surely working a treat.

Gotta Soul with adjustable travel. Usually have it around 100 mark but crank it up for big descents if I remember. Reckon you’ll be fine.

(nearly) 4 pairs for price of 1 is well worth it. Lasted well.

I did have some pads fall off the backing plate, but that was a falty batch (that affected other manufacturers too I believe), but they replaced them nice n quick.

Phew, I’ve just ordered 3 before the price goes up again!

    whats the SWR?

ok looking like I should do something around the 60m/100km mark and aim for around 10,000ft/3,000m then maybe. Does anyone know/suggest any such rides in Exmoor, Peaks or the Lakes?

ride break, ride break, ride break, etc, etc (not locking up the wheels) until the rotor is hot (around 10-20 times) – sprinkle some water on it – it should sizzle. Bingo. Pads should be bed in.

In reality I bung em in seconds before a ride and hope for the best.

none very close. not sure if the one in Rhydcymerau to the north of the forest is still open. Otherwise try Brechfa Bunkhouse.

oh apologies, forgot to offer my condolences for the loss of your PA as well.

Its crap that you can’t even leave your bike just a few metres from you for a minute. Me thinks you need a sting operation in Bristol.

yeah the strawberry line is the old railway line (that they used to transport strawberries I believe). It runs from Cheddar to Yatton.

I would ride on the road rather than ride/damage the velvet trail as it is a sensitive area.

keeping it legal – go past Ashridge farm down into Cheddar – thats a fun descent (otherwise go and do the Cheddar Gorge descent), then * pick up the strawberry line to Kings Wood, bridleway along the top and drop down Crook Peak. you will end up riding some road, unless you use the permissive bridleway around Compton Bishop on the southern side of the hill to climb back up. there is a bridleway you can drop back down to cross (nr axbridge then).

I think velvet bottom isn’t good when wet. Don’t mind riding cheeky trails myself when on my own and its dry.

    * or go up the Cheddar gorge road and down the bridleway while you are in cheddar.
