they came on mine and can be useful as people have mentioned for different riding positions & conditions, so they're staying there.

If I really need the space they may have to move, but no need yet.

    ohhh looks lurvely.

bah I like having discs on my cx. ok they don;t look as nice, but riding with a mate who didn't have 'em and he had to ride slower downhills as he couldn't slow down proper.

don't care aboot racing and my rims won't die.

They can be pretty daft at Halfords – worked well for me on a dirtworker though as they had it coded wrong so got it for £40.

Hope you get your reserved ones.

'deer spotting' isn't that the posh rural version of 'dogging'?

the 75km one is very doable (done) – the extra 25km for the 100 will be very tough going, but with an early start, support & a lot of time…..

Heading down there this week. whopee.

The green is a good intro or the blue route on that link (the other half that is different from the green) is also a (tougher) cracking route.

Loads good stuff to explore around Horner wood etc as well. Have fab time. I'm off there next week too. Yipeee.

Those times will be the cut off / slowest time allowed.

Yep as Sheldona says Plym valley railway line (easy riding), Cann wood on route to play in – looking at the map its a lot easier to get to as well.

The bastid is like mounted with O-ring type thing I believe – simple, easy, neat, effective (and cheap).

not sure about extra battery pack from DX – search/e-mail the site or ask smudge.

Same here in the chilterns (on Sunday) – my wide couldn't believe I'd been out.

didn't say it was necessarily right, just lots people prefer to have layback than longer stem – especially as most XC bikes will have a stem around 100mm as spec anyway. As FR says longer stems slow steering.

some folk say your knee should be over the pedal axle when your foot is horizontal (3 o'clock position).

loadsa people use 'em. if you need more reach its a good way to go.

    thanks Billy.

I need a light asap and was hoping to get a Troutie light, but it doesn't look like I'm getting paid any time soon, so I may have to get a Bastid in the meantime.

from 6-7am for the 100km, 7-8am for 75km etc so riders doing the longer routes can get registered before the others. Suppose you can turn up later but you will get held up more (and need to pedal quicker).

i'm staying the night beforehand – there is Sparkhayes campsite in Porlock or http://www.burrowhayes.co.uk just outside, but very nice.

Hounslow – go to Swinley forest due west. Bike hire place there too. Family suitable trails (& playground) and some great singletrack. Sorted.

    Exmoor is great.

Couldn't do the EE, but the British heart foundation are doing one next month with a wide choice of routes. Coincides with Porlock carnival too. Can't wait.

probably depends on the region/person running it.

It was cancelled last year due to the weather.
Heard good things from previous ones and this year has a selection of route options.

Great riding there, well worth the trip – coincides with Porlock carnival this year, so should be a fun weekend for all the family.

    no thank you. 8O

It is a VERY hilly place – even so, 12hrs is playing it safe.

I've done 80km there and it probably took nearly 8hrs in all (and lots of will power), so I reckon 100km would take 10-11 hrs + breaks.

radoggair – doesn't your average speed drop the longer the ride – mine does.

Do 100km – you can always bail out & stay on the 75km route if needed.

could anyone answer the question from lanesra – is it worth replacing a P7 with the bastid?

I am pondering over whether to get a bastid or a P7 (possibly 2 P7's for same price as 1 Bastid) (got 2 Fenix L2D's to accompany them).

Do fancy one of your lights Troutie, but need something right now.

hmmm – was tempted by an offer but maybe i'll stick to my boring bananas, malt loaf, dried fruit & nuts (and choccy bar near finish).

had a gel once and I did gag. nasty stuff. felt sorry for my wife ever since…

might try one of the drinks instead then
