yeah one way is sty head, Angle tarn to Langdale fell which i've heard is a carry (up and down).

other way is more out of the way, south past Eskdale fell, seathwaite, then walna scar to coniston. this is the way you'd recommend yes?

just seen another option that goes north from black sail hut via Scarth gap pass, over Honister then via Rosthwaite over greenup edge and easedale, to Grasmere. Don't know it myself.

    thanks.

would you say its worth climbing up to descend Harkerside Moor, rather than staying along the river/valley bottom (at the end of the 4th day of cycling) 😳 ?

ah, I haven't seen VR, but already had MM and Anquet.

must admit I will now be getting a SatMap rather than using the phone for simplicity.

i got the HD2 'cos of mapping software and e-mail.
nice big screen for it too. not fussed with apps (for now).

told Android is better (popular), but Windows 7 should be out soon.

Shotover wood/country park (Headington i.e. east oxford) is good for a quick laugh (not technically allowed to ride all the trails tho but people do).

Otherwise a quick trip down the M40 to the Chilterns (Stokenchurch way).
Lots of tress and singletrack around them there parts.

    Is gpx file any use?

yeah that sizing chart worried me.

pointers really wont help much to be honest. you need someone pointing the whole way.

    great for long rides.

yeah, find myself inbetween sizes. large feels too short/small, but xl too long (and high).

120mm stem will result in being abused by the fashion police (well it is pretty long, especially on a medium sized bike) 😯

swinley with a guide, otherwise Chilterns.

I might be around next (not this) weekend.

nuts. whats the cost of that?

it just rattles (on and off) when idling.
can it wait a while so i do it when the clutch inevitably goes, soon…….?

only just got it. seller said (promised) the garage said that is not a problem/worth doing now.
so i do have have some comeback if thats cr@p.

    thanks.

great for biking. drives well. heavy gears and rust tho.
would have got another transit if they had what i wanted though.

my vito is making a rattle from the dual mass flywheel (i think).
its 03 reg done 88000 miles. am i in trouble?

thepurist – never ridden it, but sure you could sneak through if its not a big group.

Instead, depending which way you're headed, but I'd go north, down a great descent on the bridleway at Turville Heath, to a road (747/919) and go left uphill (sneaky track on right of road) to Northend.

    i'm doing this:

    http://www.bhf.org.uk/events_and_volunteering/events/event_finder/view_event.aspx?ps=1000650

won't be 'proper' (hardcore) mtb'ing though.

was thinking of a vito but not heard good things about them.
friend has got one too and confirms – he hates it
    – clutch and rust problems.

vw expensive. all my transits have been very very reliable.

sat: looked after kids all day to earn the brownie points for sunday (got sunburnt)
sun: 100km around the chilterns (off-road), got sunburnt some more

yeah it is similar, but the BHF go via Shere (over the North Downs).

a cx bike is perfect. its a ride to get the miles in, not to sharpen your technical skills!

My skins cycle shorts seem to ward off cramp and some compression tights are good at the end of a long ride too (plus LOTS of water).

I got an HTC HD 2 phone for free, last month, 500 mins, 500 texts and unlimited internet (with option to change them around if you can be arsed) £25pm, 2 yrs with T-Mobile.

I'm loving it. Got my OS mapping on it too. Smashing.

hmm, like the idea of the Espace – can you fit a bike bag (130cm odd) in it across?

hmm, I have a Salsa (non QR) and just got a carbon seatpost, which I found out slips ….. quite a lot on my 100km test ride.

Did it up waaaaay tight, but still a slippery little bugger 😐

thanks. Hmm, yes was thinking about a smaller combi type vehicle, will look into those.

Will see what Caravelles are around too. Anything (bad) to look out for on them?

My Transits have always been sooooo reliable, its a shame to move on, but I want something a bit smaller (and I can't be bothered converting it further).
