great thanks. Is the quarry being used still – who owns the land and or who is going to be linking up the man made trails?

got the same one and have the same problem every now and again.

As bigG says remove all the filters and clean out. I often also need to get a bit of wire or similar to poke down the hole down there to dislodge ‘stuff’ to clear it. Easy enough to do yourself though and good little earner of ‘manly points’.

thanks. I’ve heard of people using it and the quarry is unused now I gather. yeah though I could always ‘walk’ it 😉

hoping someone on here has ridden it already.

+1 snowpaul. Don’t want to go too big.

can’t imagine getting anything too great sub £40. I’ve got one of these http://www.roughrideguide.co.uk/Wingnut-Adventure-Rucksack.html

and it is superb for epic rides.

Am I right in thinking Rossett Gill is a bit of a walk? I’m wondering about taking the (good) descent from Sty Head to Stonewaite, then south along Langstrath beck over Stake pass!

another one here too wondering what to do. My dad just died of Cancer Christmas just gone, and it is/would be his birthday tomorrow 🙁

I’m going to go for a ride around the area I grew up, where I remember my first (off road) ride with him.

Long distance ride is a good idea. My dad rode from London (where he lived) to Lands end in his teens (on a tank of a bike with no gears, as he would like to point out numerous times) so I was thinking of doing that.

what!? there is lots of great riding around Turville etc (some of the best stuff in the Chilterns IMHO).
Just do it the other way around 😉

I use my eyes to be aware of what is around me 😀

I’m off road and going so fast I only need to knwo what’s happening in front not behind 😉

I have ridden my SS 29’er (and CX) all winter and like RD says, you feel like you are sat in the 29’er and sat on top of the 26″.

My full sus & hardtail are still 26″ – that is until I make them all 29’ers this year … pending finance.

will keep one 26 for hard, jumpy, twisty, technical riding though.

WMB had a review a while back. They REALLY liked it. 4 1/2 stars and rated as their top 29’er (off the shelf) full sus.

Will look if I still have it somewhere and scan it.

my (big) brother got a good one over a car driver who had jumped out to threaten a cyclist (not him) after steering into him – he leaned in through the open window, took the keys out and threw them a long way into the hedges (without the driver seeing), then went to aid the cyclist and told the driver to …. off – which of course he couldn’t 😀

I use the Wingnut Hyper 2.5 for most duties, but just treated myself to the Adventure for some epics planned for in the year as the 2.5 has been so comfy and the side pockets are such a huge advantage.

The adventure is light as anything too (when empty), and seems really robust.

thanks, that is clear (on the map too), so looks like a good (and hard) alternative to the cycletrack if I’m feeling game.

as you say – there are too many options, they need to change (reduce) the access 😉

aha the track from Ballater to Mt Keen would make a lot more sense (much more direct which is what i’m looking for) – can you say any more about it (or show on a map) at all please?

Would you say it might then be worth going up Mt Keen then drop back down Glen Tanar rather than all around Tarfside and Fungle rd then (I seem to remember it’s best that way around i.e. clockwise)?

    Argh, too many choices.

    thanks.

I’m starting in Fort William, and will be coming along the cyceltrack from Ballater to Dinnet.

Had first planned to go over Mt Keen and finish in Montrose (as per VG guidebook) but as Montrose isn’t great and there are lots of wiggly roads and junctions, I thought I’d just follow the cyclepath from Banchory to Aberdeen (as it’s nice and easy to follow).

I’m keen 😉 to include Mt Keen (if I have anything left in the legs), but probably good to have something easy to follow, so wondered about going over Mt Keen to Tarfside then up Fungle rd to Ballochan then go right on a minor rd to the B976 and through Blackhall forest (via mtb trail) to Banchory (where I can join the cyclepath to Aberdeen).

    singletracksurfer

so from Dinnet, do you mean to go up Glen Tanar, over Mt Keen, to Tarfside then up Fungle rd?

I can’t see an obvious (easy to follow) trail through Fettersso forest, so was thinking of using the Scolty trail through Blackhall forest and joining the sutrans trail into Aberdeen.

    Thanks.

bugger, did a quick scan and thought i’d been quick enough so as not to have to do a search as well 🙁

yeah – the hitting and banging on his car was when they were bouncing off the bonnet and roof 👿

bah – he got 24 (= 12) weeks in jail.
You can get away with it if you don’t mix them 😀

I don’t think the police can be involved in an on the pitch incident.

I had someone jump 2-footed into the side of my knee when I didn’t have the ball, very badly damaging my leg, (couldn’t walk for 6 months, do any sport for nearly 2 years and still have problems). He stood over me after the ‘tackle’ and shouted abuse and said he meant to hurt me. Obviously he got sent off the pitch (and home by his coach – for his own safety too as the crowd weren’t happy) but the police were not interested, even with numerous witnesses, ref statement, etc.

If you want to injure and get away with it, do it in a game of sport, or if you need/want to use a weapon, drive a car.

ha ha that is why football is such a joke and bad example to kids – it shows that unsportsman like conduct, play acting and cheating is the way to ‘play’ the game.

To be fair McCarthy didn’t play to the ‘correct’ rules i.e. roll around on the floor clutching his head and screaming.

I think i’m right in remembering that it was also Mark Clattenburg that allowed Nani to take Tottenham’s free kick for them, into their own net! after he handled the ball. Mr C then ordered all the Tottenham players away while he spoke to the linesman (who had waved his flag), but let Rio come and listen and shout his mouth off, then awarded the goal.

Safe money on MUFC winning the league 😉

    Good isn’t it 😉

the SM8 cx tyres are great and bargain price on CRC (tempted to get a 2nd spare pair while they have them still). Good for skills training in the winter and as fast as’ in the summer. Can be ‘fun’ on corners in the Chilterns clay at the moment too 😯

couldn’t make the event myself but would have liked to.

Just makes doing a big ride nicer, more interesting, easier and different. you’ve also got the back up if something goes wrong, you get to meet new riders, and ride new trails (possibly). also enables me to book a whole day off for riding, with Mrs STS.

they’ve got to sign it, have insurance, marshals, refreshments, rider support, an HQ, promotion, 1st aid, timing chips, various admin, etc so think £17 odd isn’t too bad really.

p.s. I don’t like racing (now i’m older and slower now), but these type of events provide a challenge and friendly competition 😉

you don’t say what YOU want it for.

Sounds like a standard (cateye) bike computer is enough for you.

I use it (Sat Map) all the time for recording where I’ve been, how far, fast, and for following routes and exploring new areas.
