doubt you’ll get any detailed directions, but make sure you do the southern part of the hard route (around Skirmett) in the opposite direction that that shown by the arrows!!

The trail from Simonsbath to Cow Castle is great, along the Two Moors Way (the one just to the north has too many gates).

Heading north… you are allowed up Lime Combe now, that would be the best.

Horsden Hill isn’t good, but used to link up to Withypool.

vistaprint! or there are usually some good small businesses in every town that would do it (and would be my preference over vp).

uplink – are you married and got kids?

I still ask, it’s polite (and I like sex). We both know that unless something else is really urgent or I’ve forgotten about some other engagement, it means I’m going out for a ride… I may be some time 😉

Aha MBR. Thought I’d heard a not-to-favourable review somewhere. Thanks. Will search it out.

Seeing at the Zesty etc are so good I thought I’d look at it.
1k off the RRP is certainly a deal clincher.

I like it. Nice natural feeling singletrack trails. Not black grade, but rooty (red!). Some more challenging northshore stuff if you fancy it too.

But it does suffer in the wet.

thanks for the kind comments everyone, much appreciated, and thanks for coming along.

looking forward to doing the next one (bigger & better). You really must eat more of the snacks at the checkpoint though, you hardly dented it – my kids wet themselves when they saw all the goodies coming home.

yeah sorry about the weather, it was about as bad as it could be in the end.
it did dry up and even got sunny…. once everyone finished 🙁

    glad people enjoyed it.

Just finished the signing now. All tingly from clearing stingers and sunburnt! No chance of that tomorrow, but think the trails should be fine as mentioned.

At least their will be less walkers around and hayfever suffers should be ok 🙂

    See you tomorrow.

loving it. especially as I haven’t been able to watch any of the tour this year yet 🙁
really should get me one of those recordy things.

makes me feel like a lazy fat mtb’er tho.

been out today and it’s bone dry so hopefully the trails will soak up any rain up.
even got sunburnt today. shame it won’t be as nice on saturday, but it should be ok.
showers available too. will take the dirt worker too.

MTB films – so you can see how you should have been riding the trails 😉

Signing in on the day is allowed, but beforehand is encouraged so you can have your own custom rider no. plate and make sure there are enough refreshments.

only light showers (at times) are forecast and the trails are ok now, so shouldn’t be a problem.

ha ha, no I think the chilterns is great for all abilities. It gets harder the faster you ride it (singletrack). It’s not too hilly, but enough to get you breathless 😉

I used to surf as well, hence ‘surfer’ before I moved away from the see 😥 Although I like to think I carve the singletrack trails too.

You get all 4 route maps when you enter the event, which has lots of lovely trails on it.

If you want more, including a good winter ride e-mail or corner me at the event and i’ll happily help 🙂

    A run or cycle?

You’ll discover some great routes on the event. Also, i’ve got a good winter ride I do that passes through Henley (train station there). Where are you from?

must be someone else up for doing the full 100km!!

I prefered the epic 29er (wasn’t expecting too). however they make the ride more…. dull.
they are fast and comfortable and let you get away with mis-judgements, but not as exciting as a 26er I thought. still considering 29er for long epic rides though.

That’s right SB, it’s virtually the same as the BHF one from 2 years ago.

Only 1 rider didn’t like the route – a roadie’s first time off road, and he didn’t like all the singletrack!! 😕

Wingnut Hyper 2.5 backpack sits very low, on the lower back only. Soooo much nicer in this hot weather.

Alternatively I use a couple of water bottles on the frame and seat pack (ortleib 1 litre for small rides or the big 3 litre ortlieb one for bigger rides with gilet, etc) for tools etc, and rear jersey pockets for trail food etc.

Arm & leg warmers, buff & gilet are all good if you don’t have much space. All fit in the larger saddle bag with tools too.
