  • Bespoked Bike Check: Two Bikes To Make Tarmac Tempting

thanks Hugh. Those are my thoughts exactly. Trying to persuade myself ‘easier’ is better than ‘more fun’ when it comes to cycling is proving very difficult. I mostly ride a rigid ss at the moment for the exact opposite reason.

I have ridden both (the 2011 bikes).
Thought 29’er was faster but not as much ‘fun’.
Just wondering what people think of the 2 and if they’ve tried the 2012 models. Was going to go for the 26, but last minute indecision strikes…

really like mine, but On one have/had some budget ones which look pretty good, although they probably wont last as long.

Good top like that and some warmer shorts (my Endura 3/4 MT500 are nice) will help you get out more.

you’d need a guide at Swinley to find the trails or at least to get you back out.

If you know you won’t need a spare top, nothing beats a couple of bottles of water and pump on the bike and a saddle bag and rear pockets for repair kits, tube, tool, etc.

The Wingnut Hyper 2.5 is next best thing.

Gutted, just found out they closed myself (from elsewhere, then found this thread).

Such a shame. Lost 2 more local bike shops to me in the last few months too 🙁

she said she didn’t want anything last year – no presents she said, lets just get stuff for the children and family.

Had Christmas at the inlaws where she gave me a present. Only small but I of course had nothing. That was a fun christmas 🙄 👿 😡

Already ordered some stupidly expensive Ugg boots for this year 😉

Wohoo. Off for a night ride there this week. Love it.
Where is that new track (is it the one near the start of nine mile)?

    Can’t believe people moan.
Actually, yes I can, but stuff ’em 🙂

did it rain there much today (this week)? I was hoping/thinking it wouldn’t be too bad, especially with all the rocks around really can’t be bothered to change my tyres yet. Planning on doing nutcracker tomorrow too 🙂

    rats. anyone else?

I’m thinking of getting one for multi day rides, where I’m carrying all my gear, clothes, camping stuff for when not in b&b’s. Will be off road but not uber technical routes and also to take the kids to nursery/school. Use a single wheel trailer usually for off road rides, but its cumbersome and a pain when I need to go on trains.

Rats. Sounds like the Kona may not be up to it, which is what I feared.

Am interested in the Big Dummy, but as said, it’s expensive and hard to find 2nd hand.

My wife is interested in an electric option, as there is a big hill on the way to/from school (ok, I am a bit too).

I (have to) take my boys to football training every weekend and they all copy the ‘pro’s’ in everything they do.

like you say sm, they & the parents are most interested in the money & lifestyle.

I’ve got the 872 with the endurance battery (lasts for over 3hrs) option from the link I posted earlier.
better safe than sorry… and lost in the dark.

If it’s local folklore ok, but for route ideas or anything else, not IMHO

However Trouties are very well made (in Britain) and bright, but more expensive.

Some good tracks around Sidbury (north of Sidmouth), over Axminster way then.

quite ‘bitty’ in between i.e. lots of short sections of bridleway to join up.
