Had mine for a while and really like them. They have lasted well although my shorts version didn’t last long.

Fair enough nick, I’m the same. Can be useful for when doing a big ride solo though. Missed the Evans one from Woodcote earlier in the year.

My Endura MT500 3/4’s have been great.
The shorts version died very quickly though.

Got both those units. Much prefer the Satmap for navigational duties, and use the Garmin for recording trips or navigating when I kinda know where I am as it is small, neat.

Mount is secure for both and Satmap put a thick rubber band type thing to stop mine rattling. Mount is expensive for what it is, but good.

If you can get the Satmap on the stem it is fine. Rather clunky on the bars though.

Done the whole route a few times, and a couple of times in one. CX would be a bit painful by the end tbh, but ok otherwise. west to east is best if there is any wind (usually coming from the west), but it rides ok either direction. The eastern half requires lots of diversions off the proper trail, but you get some nice singletrack compensation.

Actually, just found the Kings Arms hotel which looks nice and also central, so just going to book in there.

Just got a Transit Custom Kombi (6 seats). Really comfy, excellent to drive, lots of well thought out touches/designs, looks nice inside and out and cheaper than the VW – so you can get lots of extras :-)

for following routes I prefer the big clear screen and usability of the SatMap.

It is bulkier though and I also have the Garmin 800, which is good for recording and navigating when I kind of know where I’m going but need back up.

haven’t seen any for a while. Was looking last week as I made a big buy, but everything is out of date now.

Didn’t even get something with my order like you sometimes do.

Business must be good for them at the moment.
Actually it is, I had to wait a while for my order as they were too busy.

Castle Crag has been sanitised (to enable 4×4’s to get up and ‘rescue’ folks in emergencies – walkers getting out of breath). Watendlath is more fun (technical).

    Lovely jubbly, thanks for that.

    none at on-one.

those are the seatpost sizes – don’t they state the size for the seatposts, rather than the frame size usually?

ha, my mates dad has got the HS2 going through his garden now, beat that.

Very impressive otherwise and much quieter ;-)

I luckily stopped some downhillers just in time before they set off down the new fast section by the reservoir, because I saw a group of young kids pushing their bikes back up the track to do it again, despite there being a forest track parallel. To top it off there was an adult behind/with them

The new trails were fun, but I personally found it a shame everything is so smooth now. Absolutely gutted if they do get rid of the other trails in there.

Will try emit. Are there any others, so I can compare & contrast?

    Thanks.

Plenty of work to keep Mrs STS busy then, but ‘cor blimey, we won’t be buying any beach sheds 8O

wow thanks acehtn. I feel like a local already now and as I visit most years I may be able to fool the locals into thinking I am/was just a hermit ;-)

Good to hear Coombe sydenham is back on the map and useful to hear about all the villages round. I like Wheddon Cross and Porlock, but think they’re too far out for us. Alcombe and North Hill sound and look good. Off to see some places this weekend…

Anyone know what the schools are like in Minehead?
I’ve got 2 young boys. Neither like school and my wife is a teacher 8O

    thanks guys.

Yeah Newquay turns to a ghost town in winter and is manic in the summer. Working in the tourist trade will help as you’ll want them there, otherwise I can see they’ll utterly piss you off. We’ll want them there :-)

Heading down there next week and it’ll be interesting to see what its like as I’m usually there in the summer(ish) months.

Yeah we’ll be looking just outside Minehead, like Dunster. More expensive but we are coming from the south east so…

Thanks guys. Yeah I thought it ended at the tank, but that looks more uphill and Strava looked to start at the tank.

p.s. Not going for a while anyway.

I use wingnut ones which are so comfy as the weight is low down on your hips, less back is covered (so less sweaty) and as it is lower down it doesn’t move around and bash you in the back of the head on steep descents. Pockets on the side mean you don’t have to take it off to get things either.

Howies down (no pun intended) from £180 to £100
Got mine the other day. Very nice but at full price it would be a bit 8O
Good for £100 tho. No loop to hang it up tho which is very annoying.

I got some Adidas Kanadia (spelling!?) which are nice, light and very grippy. Very pleased with them.

I was warned they won’t last long on tarmac, but I don’t run on tarmac.
Hell I don’t ever run so they’ve lasted me ages ;-)

oh I like riding in snow, just thought it might have been totally covered and too dangerous to ride, like you might not be able to see any trails (or cliffs) 8O

Great, i’ll pack the bike as planned then :-)

    Cheers

I’ve got a titanium swallow saddle in brown, unused which I’m going to sell (because it doesn’t look right on my mtb and I’m never going to get around to road riding). E-mail me if interested.
