    As above. Wingnut.

Had/got both. I don’t like the on one ones. Feel stiff, rough and don’t fit well (to my svelte body anyway). Howies are soft and a nice fit. Lasted better too. Well worth the extra money in my opinion.

Thanks, hadn’t noticed/seen any 4″ tablets around before. Could be ideal.

Needs to be dry. Very dry ie not now. Good old school xc ride when it’s dry.

Well it was up against a specialized ;-)

Wingnut assault or splitback would fit the bill. Love the assault when riding my cx long distance (xc, not in races).

you can get out of the Swinley forest car park at any time…if your car is still there! The contents of it will be all gone though ;-)

The Coral reef has a security guard (usually I believe), is well lit and busy. And just over the road.

Park directly over the road at the Coral reef leisure centre

    Eh, really?

    It’s great around it.

You should probably get a 150mm 650b anyway though.

Bump, as I’m looking to do something very similar :-)

Ah, the t25 looks like it might be better for me then, thanks.

Thanks. Do you all rate it worthwhile doing then – I just want to lose that last annoying bit of weight/fat? Sounds like everyone thinks it works (if you do it properly).

I’m pretty fit (although only really do cycling at the moment) so hoping to do this and get a decent ride a week in over the winter, which sounds like it will be possible.

Thanks. Planning to go out on a weekday, but Arrochar may be a bit too far. Anything good in the Kilpatrick hills or Camspie fells?

Thanks egf, thats what I wondered, just an easier/road option because the climb then descent of Coire Grannda isn’t particularly worth it.

So what is the consensus for the best route: Annat, coire lair, achnashellach station, around the west of Maol Chean dearg, back to Annat?

Why would you do the alternative along the A896 road/Glen Torridon, then through Coulin forest?

Riding with broken legs isn’t just for roadies/contador.

Great conditions for it. Shatton climb was horrible, but Bradwell singletrack descent was great fun, if a bit rutted and the view was amazing.

Thanks. Sounds like it could be a good (cheaper) option then.

I love the riding in Exmoor. Will hopefully get down that way for it.

Yep, ride mine off road regularly. Took the mudguards off,put some maxxis 2.1 aspens on (as I heard they were narrow enough/fitted well, but tbh it’ll take wider tyres) and some flat carbon bars on it too. Needs some better brakes now to stop it.

    The bmx’er made it! Respect.
Last riders came in just after 9pm (after being guided down off the hill as they had no lights).

I think I’ll ride around puddles forever more myself now after seeing one being made created totally by horse wee. Jeepers they have big bladders 8O

Darn, I thought I’d chip in and say cx for sure, as they’re superb fun, fast and keep you fit (believe you are in the Chilterns too, and they are very good here, especially in the winter). Thought i’d persuaded myself I didn’t need a fatty, but after reading the above I also find I’m in the n+1 position still.

Cx also replaces the need for a road bike for me.

Great stuff. I love the Ridgeway route and Grims Ditch is ace. It is included in the Ridgeway route in the rough ride guidebook, but the official guides don’t like bikes using (they might spook horses) so thats why they don’t have it in them.

I’m thinking of the same, but I weight around 90kg. Am I too fat muscular?

Nice one. There aren’t any really big hills, but 65 miles is still pretty tough.

Hadn’t ridden there for a little while but got to check out some of the 45 miler last weekend and hopefully it’ll stay dry as the trails are running really fast and fun at the moment.

    thats great, thanks everyone.

I like the idea of camping pods – will come back with the family for that one.

Thanks. Sorry, yes its not purely just to ride Swinley (hoping to ride some other bits around there too) while working around there, so the Premier Inn sounds like a good call (as they don’t seem to mind bikes going to the rooms) but I will try my luck with something fancier like Frimley park or Aviator.

    Thanks.

They are in Ashton Court and there is LOTS of riding around (not necessarily in it) to do jumps n stuff.

what about Pedal Progression in Ashton Court/Bristol. Haven’t had a skills day with them, but they are really good riders and really approachable and I imagine would make good instructors. I’ll hopefully book a day with them this winter.

Jedi was very good. It is pretty expensive p/hr and was pretty simple tuition for me but he really improved my riding a lot, so I was happy.

yeah i’ve seen the British Cycling Go Ride thing at few places now – there is a free one taking place on the 14th September at High Wycombe at this event… http://www.roughrideguide.co.uk/mtbike/2014/01/summit-65-chilterns-challenge/

Didn’t have any issues getting out riding when we had the first.
Its when we had the 2nd that things got trickier.

An absolutely superb event and by far my favourite on the calendar – a perfect way to spend time with the family and ride bikes. Great course, races, music, beer, prizes and a wonderful vibe to it all. Wishing the year to roll on by quickly until the next one – we’ll be back with even more people in tow.
