If its OK with Ton address for parts is:

    FAO Alex
    c/o Williams Cycles
    82 – 86 Albion Street
    Cheltenham
    Glos
    GL52 2SE

You can email me on singlespeedpunk AT gmail DOT com

We are open 6days a week so no packages will be turned away.

I can post a list of what we have on my blog so people can follow the build and donate what’s needed. At this rate we might get a couple of bikes!

Can do. I am working at the shop until the start of April and will have access to the workshop after that (if the mechanics know whats good for them!)

Posting stuff to the shop FAO me will be fine.

So once we build this/these bike/s what then? raffle? Ebay?

I work at a shop, have 10years+ experience of custom builds and have enought tools at home to build it anyway :)

I have a 26″ rear wheel and tyre/tube spare (kids wheels!)

A pair of Fenix L2D (one on the bars, one helmet mounted) with 2Fish mounts. Throw in a handfull of AA’s and you are set to go. Vapextech make high capacity AA’s and fast chargers…have a look on Ebay.

At worst send your pit-b!tch out for some Duracells from the 24hr Tesco :)

I object to the new logo, have you not seen the slaughter that it caused in Monty Python and the Holy Grail? <shudder>

    Scruff,

I was looking for a pic of the BIG PINK SOLITUDE to try and rouse JoB in to action :) Sadly my monster bike was all I had to hand :)

So you admit you are bitter? I had you down as more of a shandy man.

Big wheels, drop bars, fixed, canti brake, water bottles and seat pack, Brooks saddle, custom frame from a bloke with a beard.

    The worst driven car is:

Anything driven in Cheltenham during race week, normal rules of the road are suspended and Turkish rules instated :(

Atleast I was recognised at the chippie as a locak and got the chips, cheese and curry sauce at normal price!

Check the chain line, try a non-ramped ring, some sort of chain guide (front mech style, DMR and Rohloff do one…or bodge a ft mech!)

    Try in that order.

The Phil Wood EBB’s are lovely, although retro-fitting it to a frame would be a royal PITA. A better bet might be getting the rear wheel rebuilt with a White Ind ENO eccentric hub. Try hubjub.co.uk

When I ran Solitude Cycles the choice was Paragons or Phil EBB but those were all new frames, not retro fits.

The drop outs (Rohloff and Paragon Machine Works both do some) cost between £75-125 (£/Euro or £/$ dependant)

You do mean “sliding drop outs” and not “track ends”?

    Sliders

    Track ends

£100-120 for the work as they normally need to respace the rear end as the frame part of the sliders sit wider than normal dropouts. £100-120 all in sounds like track ends IMHO.

OK Project, for the LBS I am working in at the mo thats £1900 a year just to have the local radio station on in the back ground. Pretty sure I know my bosses reaction to that :)

Neve had the PRS round when I ran my own shop, although the TV Licencing Thugs did keep pestering me even though the shop had never had a TV…go figure that one.

a trade depot i was in the other week had a visit and they wanted 10 k a year per depot.

OK, so a little mom+pop bike shop is going to pay that then! IIRC if its only the radio the licence for broardcast is paid by the station and is free for the end user.

I always used to play my CD’s in the workshop on the basis that I had paid for them and no one else liked them :) If NoFX / Today Is The Day / Unsane want their money they are more than welcome to pop round and have a coffee while I count it out!

CEN standards, unlike the old ones, has different levels for kids, road, hybrid/trekking and mountain bikes. It also requires that separate parts are tested so someone like Specialized will want to see the CEN certificate for the bars they are buying from the Tiawan Bar Company or whoever.

The old standards required that a bike would pass if tested, now the parts have to be tested before assembly.

Total nightmare to draw up and administer but its only a few years behind!

The downtube will have extra metal near the holes.

Large maufacturer in properly designed bike shocker!!!

Large manufacturer in over-designed, over weight bike for skill-less riders non-shocker.

PP, I sugesst before you rubbish engineering principles you read up on them and then take a look at ways around the problem (which there are, as mentioned above) and then weigh up your priorities (cost, function, weight, special tube profiles etc…) when designing a frame.

Wife had a C30 for a while while the A3 Sportback was in for a service. No room inside, poor vision but they had fitted lots of buttons and made everything very complex.

She was glad to get the Audi back!

    LOL! Highly respected? By whom?

Other frame designers and builders, the hardest to impress.

Come back in a year and show me their steel CEN approved framesets

PP probably thinks that CEN stands for Can’t Engineer Nothin’

EDIT: Reading PP post above, I claim my £5

The chainstays line up with the top tube too, which is the one (minor) irritation I have with my Solitude frame.

There is a reason for that Mike. The seat stays support the top of the seat tube and allows the top tube to be dropped a little for the forward facing seat tube slot and stand over height.

I’ll throw my hat into the ring and say that any boss / hole / stress riser on the underside of the downtube (or any other highly stressed area) is a bad idea. Yes you can thicken up the tube but that seems a little stupid just so you can use 2x M5 bolts and not zip-ties / O-rings.

I would like to point out that this sort of thing is not “opinion” but good engineering design practice…something that is lacking in some bikes.

I think it’s a very pretty frame. Aesthetics are important, we just disagree on what is pretty.

Says the man with the drop-bar 29er :)

    Aesthetics should follow function everytime.

Hotlines distribute it, hence my question.

I was guessing that someone bought the brand name and started badging stuff up and shipping it over.

    I could be wrong.

God I am looking forward to a nice simple, non-machiavellian job in the civil service!

As for geometry, well, I’m definitely going slacker rather than steeper this year.

You heard it here first; slack is the new steep :)

Ti bars? Should not flex too much with that centre section. Who owns NP now? I guess its gone like “Onza”?

Nice solution Brant. Whats with the Nuke Proof bars on your site? Nuke Proof…now theres a name from the early 90’s!

Have you had a look at osbikes.com? Specifically the geometry with rigid forks? It should not work…but it does :) I love mine!

Last time I checked, humans weren’t herbivores.

Pretty sure they don’t need meat at every meal either. I really can’t understand the mentality that says you have to have a bit of dead animal at every meal otherwise it is somehow lacking and you’ll die of meat-scurvy.

One reason I love India…all the vegi food!
