Those posters are great, while I do buy the odd film I tend to rent mine from LoveFilm.com and the anti-piracy trailers are naff and annoying.

I feel that in this situation the law does not work because people, en mass, refuse to obey it. Short of locking up a large proportion of the planet or starting a stasi like ‘net police the industry will have to adapt to the new situation.

I for one will continue to support people like JK Brodrick (Jesu, Final, Godflesh) who make their own music and distribute it for pretty much nothing for the fans rather than to support the coke habbits of Time-Warner exects!

I went for an HDMI TV/DVD lead on my new set and it is a little better quality, not massive but not bad for £10 Argos lead (£10 or £40 they all work the same unless you have £thousands of kit to connect!)

Plus it lets me keep the Wii plugged in the SCART socket…no messing about changing plugs :)

Down here. Lighter, better insulation and packs down smaller.

Stays in Alpkit bivvi bag and gets rolled up and stuffed into Alpkit dry bag and strapped on to the handlebars. Down is crap if it gets wet, so don’t get it wet. Simples.

Is it Vista and has it updated with SP1?

Mine did this last week and I have just had to re-install the SD card reader driver.

    Right click on My Computer
    Select Device Manager
See if the Network Card / SD/MMC device has a yellow triangle and ! against it (mine did!)

Have a google for the drivers needed and manualy install them.

Best make a restore point first so you can roll it back if nothing works!

mercury (the most toxic substance on the planet)

    Plutonium takes that title IIRC.

Back to MMR, as has been stated try PubMed or Cochrane for peer reviewed papers. Trouble is that unless you are used to reading them they can be a little obscure and full of unuseual terms.

One reason for the link between MMR and autism as the symptoms of autism start to present them selves about the same age as kids are immunised. There are stronger links between Autism and parents who are both of a scientific / engineering bent, also it is predominantly boys who display autistic symptoms so immunising girls should be fine (or show a massive jump in the number of female autistics following the MMR introduction…some thing that I have not been able to find)

    SSP

Wife did quite a bit of work with an autistic boy while at uni studdying Psychology and the mother-in-law works for an Autism charity…hence my knowlege in this non-engineering subject!

    why?
why does it matter what they think about the origins of life?
it dosent change anything, least of all to us, let them believe what they want.

Until they decide that they should wage a war (backed by the big bloke upstairs) on you as you belive in nothing / a different bloke upstairs / FSM. OK forget war, how about medical treatment or the right to vote / drive / go out alone?

We do bikes for £4000 on Cyclescheme if people want, just pay the amount over the voucher, makes no difference!

Yes it does as the bike is in part ownership between you and the company, it can cause all sorts of issues if you leave before the scheme is up. tax man might take an interest too!

yeah, but it’s popularity has increased lots recently and will probably die away soon

People said that about singlespeeds on the GoFar (STW predesessor) website back in c1999 / 2000.

So, Sutrans routes might be the way forward…They’re all signposted pretty well too, so easy to follow.

Really? I did a Chester to Cheltenham a few years ago and the signing was aweful!

I have the GPS route for the 3 highest peaks / England / Wales / Scotland but the terrain is pretty tough / unknown and some of the navigation through Manchester is a nightmare, let alone some of the route finding out in the sticks!

For atheists, Richard Dawkins is their prophet and The God Delusion is their Bible.

    Discuss.

No becasuse I will be labled an illberal ranting atheist.

Dawkins has some good points and has allowed people to stand up as atheists (not easy belive me!) and make people question things. Questioning stuff is what makes humans great.

    closed-minded, illiberal ranting atheists.

Closed minded? Show me proof of god/s exsistance and I will change my views. More than can be said of many religious people. Its better to have ideas than faith, you can change and idea.

Illiberal? No, I want equal rights for all, including the right NOT to have a religion / be part of one / challenge them in reasonable terms. Something religious groups as a whole tend to forget. No one has the right not to be offended.

Ranting? No, quietly considered points. I’ll leave ranting up to those who do it best. These are often backed up by “The Book” and ” A higher power” and often ask for your unthinking obedience / credit card number.

    Atheist? Yes thanks.

Get them young and you have them for life. While I agree that religions as an accademic subject should be taught to all kids (and in a much more rounded, even handed way than has been my experience!) The daily act of worship is an outmoded nonsence.

I am sorry if Christians, Jews, Muslims, et al see this as “another secular attack” on them but there you go. I don’t see people who love, say, Laurie Lee penning hate mail to me because, IMHO, his writing sucks and has no relevance today and there are better books to make kids read. I am free to write an essay on this and probably get some good marks for it (I did as it happens) but try and argue the non-exsistance of god in RE and you are branded a trouble maker and punished.

Religion is not special, it does not automaticly get reverential treatment or a special place in schools / society. Its like all other ideas, many of which are discarded as loony and people move on…remember the Segway?

I’ve had icebreaker merino baselayers for years and they’re still fine.

It might be a dodgy one but IB did move their production a few years back from NZ to China.

Its not all bad as the Chocolate Fish merino is made in the old IB factory. I have used my base layer T-shirts, Long sleeves and heavy weight (300g/m) for almost 3 years with no issues. Socks are great too*

but all I did was be there and press the button – nature did the rest for me.

And I imagine the camera did some pretty nifty things too…unless you print direct from your retina!

For the record I like the OP’s shots, nice not to see overprocessed, messed about shots for once. I loved the old Illford 3200ISO B+W film…graintastic or lots of “noise” depending on your stance.

I have a Coleman micro stove and it folds down and fits inside my Alpkit.com Ti Mug (1L capacity!) with a 100g cartridge.

Cost about £22 a few years ago and plenty fast enough at making tea / porridge / beans. Used with a 500g cartridge for car-camping trips too.

I have looked at other stoves and unless I was touring in remote areas (like Indian Himalayas!) I would go for a gas cartridge one as you are never far from a camping shop in the UK.

Alpkit have a deal on Ti mugs + Ti pan / lid sets at the mo’ :)

DT Swiss all the way for me. No other rims is as well made or builds up as well. Having built wheels professionally for 10 years I have seen a pretty good cross section of rims!

TK7.1’s are ok but might be a little narrow if you like bumping in to stuff…hard. I have run WTB WeirWolf 2.55’s on them with no issues but I am pretty light.

The D470 29er rim is really good price, width and weight. I have some on my rigid bike and have not had to touch them once despite some rocky descents / low tyre pressure. Only down side is the tacky (but easily removable) stickers on them!

All I can say is soon you will be able to point to an on-one rider and say “Ur bike is a saracin!”

Well seeing as as of the end of March Saracen will cease to be in their current form as the brand has been bought by Madison (behing Ridgeback, Genesis and Shimano importer for the UK amongst other things) I really rather doubt it.

Esp as Saracen went tits up a couple of years back owing lots of money to suppliers and factories then started the next day under a new name which had been registered a while before (Saracen Bikes vs Saracen Cycles any one?) and carried on as if nothing had happened!

They normally pay you “garden leave” if you are going to a competitor, ie. you get to sit at home for your notice period, not stealing ideas / info from them and they pay you any way.

If they want you out ASAP I would ask for your notice period (as your contract) to be paid for up-front.

Conti are normally pretty good construction wise….leads me to think that its a little narrow for the rim.

    I have run a 40c schwalbe / 42c Conti on a 23.6mm rim (DT Swiss TK7.1) with no issues.

A tyre not seating is normally down to the bead on the tyre being mis-formed (damaged wire bead, incomplete rubber coverage, etc…) or the rim having a big ding / flat spot in it.

If the rim is 20mm a 40c should be fine, 27mm and not so great.

    What tyre is it?
