Yeah 8 speed is 3/32″ (recomended by most brands for SS) they are like epicyclo said cut to move side to side but a spring loaded tensioner should work as a reach mech and hold it in place, when the rear cog and chainring are inline there shouldn’t be any issues.

Get as many cogs as you can on the cheap 16/17/18 and see what works then buy a better one when you know what you need they will last longer.

I have tried lots of set ups and find the one i’m using at the moment the best buy far.

    Singular Swift (geared without EBB)
    Pauls melvin Tensioner.
    8 speed shimano chain.
    Renthal Sproket
    Chris King Rear cog,

I’ve streched plenty on chains and slipped on many EBB and found this to be a fit and forget setup. The tensioner is spring loaded so takes up any slack automaticially and keeps the chain on. It doesn’t look as “clean” as a non-tensioner set up but it works.

Be carefully fitting fat 1/8″ chains with some tensioners as the may not fit through the guide. a 3/32″ will fit almost any.

I have to agree with his remark, I also agree that because it comes from a tori its found offensive,

I also know alot of Parents who are benefits have more children to get more benefits, too many people know how to exploit the system. Generally because my old lady is a social worker and my inlaws are foster carers.

But what would I know, I come from the blueist county in the country North Yorkshire.

I know plenty of student both when i was at uni and now that spend what i do on a mortgage on drinking and pissing around.

I really have little sympathy, There are planty of options available, Work based training etc or even god forbid a part time job to pay for education rather than piss ups.

I think maybe its a little high but they pay it back when they are on a resonable wage and eventually will be in a better situation,

I’m like many people out there who did a degree and now actually works in a completly unrelated field that doesn’t need the qualifaction I studied for. It will put people like myself who wasted time and money for nothing.

bigger rear cogs are cheaper and easier to source.

but as above more reasons to go bigger,

Shop somewhere else and stop complaining.

It’s not a case of weither some bike shops deserve to be in business its weither they deserve YOUR business. In this case no they don’t.

Its alot better than Shimano Airlines, I’d like to see what bikes come with it as standard in 5-10 years time. I personally can’t see any more downsides than cables. People are scared of change.

I bought a cheap one off the bay, I know I should tar them all with the same brush, but it was a bit crap, the cottony stuuf in the cap came out into the whiskey and it leaked. Wasn’t impressed.

The Surly ones are good a lad I ride with occasionally uses his.

I got mine from here,(but can’t see it)

I have a Jamesons one and the STW one. Both are pretty good in my opinion. I keep them in my bag mind rather than in a Aherne cage.

Mbr did a killer loop or certainly a mapped route round the wolds. Minster Cycles are a good shop in Beverley, They might help you out.

If not the Yorkshire Moors or Dalby will be about an hours drive north,

Some Royal Mail planes where cancelled/delayed from Belfast due to the high winds and weather last week. So think that will be a major factor.

I don’t care anymore if people don’t want to wear helmets, its when the small majority sue because they have taken a knock to the head.

Choice is always the better option.

    I had a Five, 09 model with a 20″ frame.

    I’m 6’2″ and 14.4 stone.

Can’t remember what pressure exactly I ran but found it worked best for me at 15% sag.

    I really liked that bike.

I ride occasionally round there on my SS 29er 32:18/32/19 and its hard, and dependant on the weather you will puch up something. But then there are hills even the geary weirdys push up too.

Just take which ever bike you think you will have the most fun on.

I reckon it’s a bit of a dilemma – if a bike mechanic was really up to my expectations, I reckon he’d be bright/skilled could find a better paying job. I can only imagine they do it for the love.

What are you trying to say? bike mechanics are ill-educated and don’t deserve payment because they don’t have degree’s?

Look up cleveland way, its some of the best easy to find riding around here. (the bridleway bits)

I ride regulary round boltby forest/sutton bank/kepwick/black hambleton area then over to hornby/revaulx area lots of quality riding around there.

But seriously to the OP do you have loads of perfumes/products candles female crap lying round your house and cuddle a hot water bottle in the night?

When you get to the point you move in together you can make compromises. I did, bike stuff in the kitchen, hot water bottle in bed, dog and candles in the shed.

I wouldnt shop anywhere that dented my bike. shows how they care about customers and their belongings. This was proved by them charging you for the crown race to be removed.

Most shops would do It for free and probally wouldn’t dent your bike either

Some people do it for fun, some to win.

    And??

Whats wrong with that, I know plenty of people who enjoy winning.

I will always laugh at the stormtroopers that ride round trail centres, but i’ll always say hello and be pleased to see other riders.

Its people who diss other riders that get on my wick.

the crap advice given by the spotty staff at these stores is the best they can at the time

This may be true, but it doesn't exclude them from the Sale Of Goods Act. To wit, if they tell you goods will do what you ask, and then they don't, they're not fit for purpose.

Yes and this is why Evans need to address the situation.

    Singlespeed_Shep

Agreed, absolutely, vote with your feet/wallet. BUT I was tied in to Evans via the Ride2Work scheme. Otherwise I would have hot-footed it to a friendly LBS.

I feel for you being tied in, My dad was too.

But I really think considering who much time all of us spend on the net we can do enough of our own research to make an educated purchase.

And also sometimes the crap advice given by the spotty staff at these stores is the best they can at the time, Poor advice and customer service comes when an organisation gets to big to quickly and doesn't invested in the staff that are the first contact of their business.

I'm not defending Evans but staff who are not trained in customer service or aspects of the cycling industry that doesn't interest them, Have you ever asked the lad in a shop wearing baggy jeans and nike 6.0's thats hanging round the jump bikes (sorry for the generalisation) what a compact chainset is? Because I feel its not their fault if they don't know to best way to size a customer for a bike.

BUT there will always be people who don't give a shit and think they no better.

    I like options.

When i feel like a trail centre i ride one

When i feel like natural trails I ride some.

    Great.
