i did it for a while.

    same ratio as ss,

the best thing I found was a bolt on rear cog, velosolo do them, bolted straight onto my current rear hub, I felt it was a lot better than a threaded cog for all the dragging the back wheel down slopes.

Also try it with cheap parts bin cranks, you’ll smash them a few times.

I do like the look of that frame and fork,

    hope it gets sorted.

I would happily buy from china direct but I would make sure its from a company that has some back up in their products and not just from some factory worker on ebay.

OCD sufferer here. I currently have (And have had for a long while) CBT monthly and daily meds.

Both of the above have helped improve my life drastically, But nothing as much as being honest with myself and the people around me. Realising its nothing to be ashamed of and being open about it.

Being honest with a good friend also helped him massively as he was major depressed and hiding it from the world. Its amazing how many people this effects yet still not a talk about subject which would improve and save lives.

I was dead against road bikes with discs. Until I rode one.

They are loads better than rim brakes. I now commute everyday on a road bike with discs in all weather and up/down a steep hill and can’t see a reason to go back. Also anyone who complains about setup and lever pull is either riding a bike with very poor brakes and is themselves poor at bike maintenance.

I was looking at one in the shop a week or so ago. looks a really nice bike. Spa’s bike are good value and well kitted out.

Don’t really see the headtube as a major issue on a bike like that.

Still cheaper though and a good rack.

    £55 at tweeks for a blackburn. ;)

Blackburn outpost racks are a good cheaper alternative to the old man mountain.

The front rack is axle mounted and I’m sure I’ve seen somewhere that the rear can be also.

I currently have a salsa el mariachi with an surly enduro fork which does the job well but the frame needs a specific rack or modification.

25psi in tubeless mtb tyres is fine and shouldn’t cause damage

Tubeless tyres aren’t magic. You run low pressures in them and hit something hard it will damage your tyre and rim as per the pictures above. The advantage you have is that you might not get a pinch flat.

Yeah, better to get everyone to recycle as much as possible, store it in a recycling centre and burn the whole lot to the ground.

A waste center near me in Thirsk happens to go up in flames every two years. :?

I thought once you binned an item it was fair game, drop it off at the tip, someone else picks it up, its there’s to do with as they see fit, including flog on fleabay…

Had they been stolen I’d see that as another matter. but you had thrown them away.

I’ve found Morvelo to have slightly longer legs

    Singlespeed_Shep

It’s all about the chain tension. If it doesn’t have a tiny bit of slack at all positions the bearing’s won’t last long. It’s tempting to try and get the chain tight on single speeds but it’ll kill the bearings.

    +1

Puts too much pressure on the bearings

Oh and I’ve riddent it every week for 2 years with no gates put across

to make sure you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear

Just because it was clear last week, doesn’t mean it will be clear this week.

I’ve used Bolle for years, not this type but similar. Both as safety glasses and for riding. Excellent for just over £5. You should be able to find white ones if you have a search through,

    Is google translate broken?

I’m guessing your asking if you can blame the farmer for you running into a gate that’s not normally there.

If so, No its your fault for not looking where your going.

I’ve just built up a charge filter. pretty cheap off ebay.

Will take cx tyres for the offroad and spikes for ice in winter. Sticking with standard lights as the salt near me destroys hubs and don’t fancy wrecking a dynamo.

If i didn’t have a big hill to go up i’d be singlespeed with discs for sure.

I feel your pain. Especially as my other half caught a free pair from the Oakley promo float at the tdf on Monday… sorry, is much more appropriate.

The bag was dumped/left/abandoned on the opposite side of the pond to its owner.

She shouted at the dog to get away from the bag

What would have been acceptable? a polite conversation with the dog?

Yes the bag was left, but i really can’t see what is wrong with shouting at a dog to leave someones belongings alone regardless of where they are.

Shouting at the owner on the other hand is a different matter, but that isn’t the issue here.

If you have a dog picnics are a nightmare

Shirley Put them on a lead when there is a high risk of them wandering off into other peoples picnic??

I’d happily shout at a dog if it was sniffing my stuff. Nothing nasty about it but I just don’t like it.

I have one of those ambrosio cassettes, its not bad. weights roughly the same as a tiagra cassette but works a treat.

I ran campag on my mtb for a while with it.

I also ran 10 speed campag with an 8 speed shimano cassette. That worked well but only gave 8 gears but the spacing is the same.

What experience do you have Shep?

    None professionally, enthusiastic diy,

and what did you do before?

I’ve worked in the bike/sports trade for 12 years. From shops to distribution.

Its a career I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m lucky that where i Live (NR Thirsk, North Yorks) there are plenty of Cabinet Makers/Wood Carvers/Carpenters.

I spent some time deciding what exactly I wanted to do, bespoke kitchens/dressers/tables etc. Then I wrote/emailed/knocked on doors of the business’s that fitted the bill.

Most ignored me but a couple where happy to help. I managed to get a few good chats with owners of some of the Business’s which was excellent. The one that I really liked the most offered 2 days to come have a go and be sure if it was for me.

I snapped their hands off, It was what I hoped. After the two days they offered a position where they would train me up. I took it.

I’m 30 next year, have a mortgage and a lil lass. So it was a tough decision but all the better in the long run.

I’ve done very similar, I start as a Carpenter/Cabinet Maker a Week today.

Stage 1, Alwoodley, north leeds. Then back to the old mans for a BBQ and watch the rest on TV

Stage 2, Whixley on the A59. Then back to friends to watch on TV.

Will have Mrs Shep and Miss Shep in tow so nice to have a “House” base at both stages.

    I’m dead excited.

We have a fair bit of decking in the back garden, hate it. As soon as i can afford it its getting replaced with patio.

Ours is in a bit of shade and lots of plants/bushes around it so goes green pretty quickly in certain parts.

I pressure wash mine off twice a year, usually March and October. Keeps it looking newish but still slippy as hell in winter so I screw down some rubber mats for a couple of months.

I’d use a triple and disc brakes along with a steel frame would make an excellent bike for the majority of my road riding which is audax’s.

I currently use a 11-32 rear cassette and a compact, a triple would give me smoother shifting at the front and a good range with a standard road cassette.

People will mock you on the interwebz but not really in the real world.

Ignore what anyone else says and think about what would make you feel better about the incident. IF you are happy you resolved it and are going to feel bad about sending it further then don’t do it, your only making yourself suffer more.

If your happy to send it further and not worry about it then go for it.

(Personally i’d send him on the course, but wasn’t there so could change my opinion)

frinstance MBR had as their bike of the year a £2700 bike this year. Not their starter bike or budget option, their flat-out best buy. And I think the Bizango the year before.

I loved reading the letters sections of mbr for the following months after they gave the bizango bike of the year. It was comical the storm they got from the ex golfing enduro crew.

MTB is certainly the new golf. A trail centre car park is like a golf club from ten years ago. Plenty of executive cars with expensive bikes just like the days of expensive skill compensating golf clubs. Flashing their kit etc. But why is this a problem? people spending all their cash on expensive bikes its their money and good on them if it makes them happy.

You may not be able to get XTR for the price you could a few years ago. But the technology in lower models is loads better than it used to be. I’m personally happy with the cost of riding and just buy within my means new/reduced or 2nd hand.

That’s about what we paid for our 1st house FFS !

    F’in Peasant.

I’d have a modern £500 bike anyday over one from years ago.

I’d like to know the answer to this too! I planned my day around giving myself 1 hour but if its 2.5 hours I’ll need to re-jig leaving times / etc

Might need more if you intend to move up and down the route itself, Side roads and roads adjacent should be ok via bike/foot up until near the race.

Roads will re-open as and when it is safe to so, this may be earlier or later than time specified.
Expect delays and allow additional time for journeys .
No parking is permitted on the race route during 5th and 6th July 2014. Vehicles will be removed
Pre 0900 use designated event car parks at Ripon Golf Club, Ripon Racecourse and Ripon South. After 0900 use Park & Walk / Cycle at Newby Hall. This is 3 miles (60 min walk) from the race route
    Use campsites at Ripon Racecourse
Cycling and pedestrian access is permitted on the race route until approx one hour before Publicity Caravan arrives.
    Remember the countryside code .

Thats from the le tour website about the roads near me.

May I ask politely…. why ? … Is the caravan that good? what is it all about ??

Its ok to watch, but the roads are completely closing so a good chance you have to stay where you are after it. I actually think its an hour before the caravan when they stop you riding on the route.

If your taking a 4 year go somewhere like a pub/town with stuff to do.

Pretty sure all powerlinks aren’t “officially” re-usable.

As they wear with the chain, and when worn it wouldn’t work well with a new chain.

But as far as opening and closing on the same chain they should be fine.
