I would stu, but can’t afford the frame I meant I fancied a Black Sheep fork for my Pace. I suppose they may be able to curve it but thought i’d see what was about first. Looks like not a lot.

IA The karate monkey fork is straight sadly.

Quite a few 29ers are around a 45-50mm fork. I’m not looking for a fork similar to a stock trek one.

I’m fancying a black sheep but would prefer the looks or a curved rake fork like the surly 1×1 one.

Looks like it has been ridden loose IMHO. There’s a lot of marking to the outside of the cup.

A phone call to the original shop isn’t going to help but unfortunetly prob won’t get you anywhere. One bike shop is always going to blame another.

I’d personally just think sod it and do me best to get it fixed and move on,

Looking forward to having a go with some, Never had problem with my BB5’s.

Weight will be a fair bit. but not convinced as they still use a cable but will keep an open mind when trying them.

Read the FULL post from david.
I did. And I quoted accurately; did he give them some money (which he states) or did they give stuff for free, because they were “proud to be fueling the athlete”?

Whichever, it’s a spectacularly self-aggrandising post, and deserves to have the piss ripped out of it.

The local bakery used to provide us with free flap jacks and pasties if we gave them some money.
At first sight, I thought that this might well be the stupidest sentence ever written on STW.

But then I tried it out this morning. Amazingly, it turns out to be completely true. Who would have thought that Waitrose would indeed supply me with free groceries, that the filling station would let me run my car for free, and that could fly to Australia this week completely free.

So long as I give them some money.

Not as stupid as you think. Read the FULL post from david.

You can get a quite a few bmx race posts in 25.4, 26.8 and 27.2 around 400mm

If its a race bmx then it will most likely 27.2 unless its a redline 26.8.

I have a 400mm 26.8 in my redline. I ride a local loop doing sprint sessions and generally quite like bombing around on it. QR clamp to slam it when i’m at the track.,

But in the early days pre ’96ish
that’s rather late chap lots of folks on here been riding since the 80’s or since the very start

Yep fully aware of that, still pre 96 though 😉 Was talking about it moving into the mainstream.

You could probably even argue it wasn’t till 2000 when mtb became more mainstream but that’s a whole other argument.

    Right please don’t shoot. 😳

But in the early days pre ’96ish mountain biking was new and people where amazed at what people where doing on bikes. It was seen as this unreal extreme sport because hardly anyone did it. Especially in the lakes where DTF is talking about.

Imagine going to the middle of africa with your bike and showing some people it. People who had only ever seen people riding bikes to the next village and you go pop a little manual and jump a goat. They would freak out. You wouldn’t just a get a flapjack you’d get a chicken and some dudes daughter!

One of my good friends has just started mountain biking this summer after having enough of motocross.

He borrowed a bike and loved a lap of dalby which was the first time he’d been in a push bike in 10 years.

He has a fair bit of cash and didn’t see any problems in forking out £3k for a nice Zesty. We all including him have a laugh about all the gear no idea. But once in Hamsterly he stacked it next to a couple of guys who got a bit nasty over the whole nice bike shit rider rider. FFS its just a guy riding a bike in the woods.

He has money and likes nice things why should he buy a cheap halfords special when he’ll get far more enjoyment out of nice bike. I can’t see any member of this forum not spending that amount of cash on a bike if they had it.

On the whole image thing, Who cares I don’t ride a bike to look cool and don’t know many people that do.

Let me tell you a little bit about my bike before your put it out of it’s misery.

This is the second one , it’s nicer than the first, but the idea is to build a short chain stay twentyniner that will also run belt drive option
    Chainstay length is 407-427 mm that’s centre to centre that’s 16 a 16.75

I did all the drawings and got it made out of ti in china with a company called XACD

I really like the idea of it. Always been a fan of the e-stay bikes. I think as more all-mountain 29ers come out this option of the shorter wheelbase would suit down to the ground. Am i right in thinking it runs round an effective top tube a bit like mr jones? So us lanky sods would be right over the rear wheel?

    as drinkmoreport says its fine.

A 29er SS is all I ride round there. The second half can wear you out but a take a break a drink and a bite to eat and you’ll be fine. Its a good place for evening groups out. They’ll be fast through some sections and opposite though other.

Some of hairpins can be tough so be prepared to flick your wheel or ride the banking a little.

    29ers look absolutely awful

For the size of bike I buy XL/XXL a 29er looks right in both hardtail and FS.

A bit like small ladies road bikes that use 650b you generally won’t notice unless its next to a 700c.

Epicylo – I had a similar Dahon, a SS Bullhead. Was fantastic!!

If 29ers are so much faster than are they not effectively cheating when used against traditional mountain bikes?. I cannot understand why they ever allowed them in competition in the first place.

    Again same for suspension.

its not cheating if not against the rules and available to everyone

You could say the same about 700 for road wheels but what would be the UCI reaction if a team rocked up with 720’s or 750’s? No way would it be accepted.

Yes but apparently you can use a wheel size from 55cm to 70cm according to the UCI just everyone on the road uses the biggest 😆

Bike companies don’t sell more bikes because they brought out 29ers. Most people buy one or the other. People who have both would probably generally have two bikes anyway.

Does it make any difference if it was a cost-price sale from the man who runs the team to a sponsored rider, rather than a man walking into a shop and buying it?

If you have proof you bought it off him. Then I don’t think its any different. If your sponsored i’d have thought you get a replacement to stay on the team or whatever,

The same way 80mm fork went to 100mm and 1.75″ tyres went to 2.10″ Variety an 80mm fork will out perform a longer travel fork in certain places as will a 26er over a 29er.

But the main reason is choice. Why do this?? Because we can. There aren’t any rules to going out and riding a bike and shouldn’t be. If it works for someone (which it does for a lot of people) then it should be done.

Even if everyone else was riding them?

If everyone else was you’d be at a disadvantage using 26″ as you would riding rigid.

Its a very narrow minded view not to accept different. I’ve said it before but this arguement was said about disc brakes and suspension. Because we didn’t need those either 🙄 and people that bought in to should “Learn to Ride better or stick to the road”

32-14!! how big are your thighs?

I run 36-21 at the mo on my Pace rc129. Which works out in between 32-18 and 32-19.

Duckman, that rigid Swift looks fantastic.

How’s the ride? Is that a custom spray, or can you get them like that?

    Cheers!

    Crispy

was mine 😥 Not custom, that was the original colour.

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. Skinsuits were banned because they looked crap, I hope they do the same with 29ers in DH as a 29er DH bike would just look wrong. IMO and all that.

Banning something because it looks crap is retarded. UCI lost a lot of credibility in my eyes when they banned skinsuits.

But why do you need it to roll over rocks better? If you don’t like rough terrain then just take up road riding. if you like riding off road (i.e. mountain biking, remember that?) learn how to cope with rough ground better.

    Helps you win a race.

I could probably understand 29er hardtails, but 29er full-suspension? Give me a break!!

Really? You serious?? Why do you need a 26″ full sus?? Why have sus at all?

imagine coming out of Tesco’s getting to the car and unloading the weekly shop to find half the things you had picked up and paid for have gone!

It won’t obviously happen with in-store purchases but it does with online. I had to talk through my “alternatives” with the delivery man last night.

I was I got anything 9am in the morning, Our postie never turns up till at least 1:30pm and the local collection office shuts at 2:30pm so have to wait an extra day to get things.

I very rarely need things next day and allow time for stuff to arrive. Only start to get annoyed if it takes more than 5 workings days.

If one of my local shops don’t have it I search for somewhere that does, I generally have no real loyalty.

I had the defy 2, (same frame) My dad has it now.

Large frame (i’m 6’2″ with 34″ inside leg)

Really enjoyed the ride, found it comfortable and easy to get on with. My dad had a bad back and has no problems. Carbon post and forks must make a difference.

Both my brother in laws have Defy 3.5’s and they love theirs too.
