I’m 31 and commute to work regularly (8 miles with 1000ft of climbing on White horse bank/Sutton Bank in North Yorkshire) Also have done a fair few 24hr solo biking/audax event so wouldn’t hesitate if it was a big cycling event its just the change over to running.

I’m wanting to do what i can to support the charity and do like a serious chillange i just want to make sure grief isn’t clouding my judgement.

Its something i’m going to sleep on a get a few runs in the next few days and see how i fair.

    Thanks for the input.

If they do get stolen the police will come looking for the dodgey bloke who was seen taking photos of them a few hours earlier. ;)

Not sure how this affects Shimano?

Nothing directly, but as CRC and Hotlines IIRC are the same business some LBS will have accounts with them. IF madison are out of stock or high on pricing for the product then they will go through other distribution channels.IN this case CRC to get YOU what YOU wanted,

At the end of the day you walked into a shop and got what you asked for.

Dont CRC own hotlines? So others parts will also come from CRC anyway

I twisted some rockshox forks years ago. New uppers and a full service and they where good to go again.

Take them to someone who can fix them. might not need much to get them working again.

A couple of weeks ago i sold a few items, anyway cocked it all up and one buyer ended up with two items.

Not getting the wrong one back :(

Its a shame as the bloke who never got what he bought seems like a descent bloke. (Full refund)

One of the best bikes i’ve ever owned was a kona paddy wagon, I switched the bars to flats with bar ends and a single front brake (rear fixed)

Such a comfortable bike to blast road town/commute and also did a few good rides out on.

    timber bell.

Tempted with one of these. I use a bell all the time and just use cheap BBB ones.

I have the alpkit kanga handlebar harness (used for commuting 3-4 times a week) also their £18 dry bag/seatpack. I’m really pleased with both. Service from appkit has also been really good.

I also use a salsa minimalist rack on my road bike occasionally which is pretty similar to the PDW rack. Especially if you remove the support bars and strap it to the rack.

I really like the ease of use from the harness as i can just whip the dry bag out and leave the harness attached, When i look at a new seat pack i will certainly be looking for something like the wildcat or the restrap that use dry bags,

I have had good experiences with schwalbe hurricanes if you on a budget, But currently running schwalbe marathon mondials, which are excellent.

Both fine on dry single track and work best on fire roads. Mondials have more grip and better puncture protetion but are a lot more cash,

If not found anything other than cx tyres that are good for mud, but then they are crap on roads. the mondials where the best compromise.

I was in a very similar situation, so built this up 2nd through eBay and forum. bored of riding to work on roads to decided to play in the woods more.

Cost just short of £400 all in.

    Charge Cooker frame and forks,
    Six drivetrain/Deore Cranks
    Alivo brakes
    Shimano hubs on alex rims
Schwalbe marathon mondial 2.0 tyres (bombproof)

I have some mudguards to go on it in the bad weather, (from spa cycles) will use p-clips on the rear as no eyelets.

I’m guessing you could pick up a charge cooker frame and some steel forks cheap and swap you bits straight from your cotic.

but seriously you can’t be riding your bikes enough, atleast buy some consumables, tyres/tubes/chains/cassettes

I live near Thirsk. Nth yorkshire moors from my door, Dalby 30mins, Reeth (dales) 45mins, lakes 2 hours.

Find somewhere you can ride from home and an extra 30mins drive to other places once in a while isn’t too bad.

    Very nice.

And bunny hopping, manuals, wheelies, clearing gap jumps

I’d be very surprised if anyone interested in frame bags and carrying large amounts of water is interested in the above.

i don’t like backpacks not for me, sweaty back and all that. The weight of a 750 bottle, trail tool and tube etc is fine on my bike. Anymore and i’ll be carrying a lot of gear on the bike anyways.

I have a jandd frame bag and have used that with a Osprey bladder for longer rides. worked fine for me, it meant i only had one bag on the bike, I put all my food and tools in it too.

I only really use bottles for ease of cleaning and on shorter rides.

I ran the hose through the zip and used clip on a brake hose to keep it in reach.

I’d go for front mech and a double.

    Something like the Spa xd2

    Arms or arse?

If arms double up to two layers of bar tape.

Arse, same shape saddle with more cushioning.

I’d try that before getting a new bike.

I’m pretty sure its his real name and he is english, there was an article on him in dirtbag a few years ago.

Agree very nice. He did a lovely hardtail with integrated seat post.

12 pepperamii’s fit nicely in an XL 29ers seat tube,

Also you could mount the top tube bag against the seat post.

So you want a cheap, mass produced bike that only suits you and a few other people.

    Spend loads or compromise.

I’ve had a look at mine with the adaptors.

You would need longer bolts and spacers to mount the tubes adaptors to the alternator bolts, as they don’t fit into the recess. This would probably be pointless as if you got longer bolts and some washers you could mount the rack straight to them.

They do work fine on the axle, but it is a faff removing wheels.

Yeah its just the tubus qr kit I used and a clamp on the seatpost.

It mounts the rack behind the dropouts. I’ll have a look round for the bits and take a pic tonight.

The tortec rack I bought came with similar plates that would do the job

I don’t have any pics but I ran a tortec rack on my el mariachi with tubus axle mounts.

how small? what brakes do you have?

I have a cheapo eBay one that mounts to v-brake mounts thats not bad and was only £8.99

    clicky to ebay

For heavier stuff I have a salsa minimalist which is excellent. I can fit a 13l dry bag on it full. You would need rack mounts or p-clips for this to fit,

Velo orange (through Freshtripe and other in the UK) Also have a nice range of other racks.

    an other clicky

There was a write up in the etc magazine a while back where a chap did similar with a short cage ultegra rear mech.

He used a linderets road link doofer on the mech hanger to make it work.

I do like the look of the wildcat gear one. Its just the price that bugs me, being so much more than Alpkit and Restrap

I’ve watched it a couple more times, and isn’t it actually the cyclist in the respro mask that causes the initial pip of the horn as he moves infront of the cop car as traffic starts moving,

The verbal interaction just after the corner seems to be between the copper and respro dude, at which point the camera cyclist cuts up the police car by riding past the passenger front wing and straight to the centre of the lane in front of the copper,

I have a pendle hang on tow bar rack. Had it for about 10 years and it’s been excellent.

It supports the frame so no issues for tyres etc.

Mine lives in the boot of the car as it’s essentially two “L” shape bars.

You’ll need a light board also with this one.
