Its Pace it will fail they wont want to know.

Customer service appears to be a problem which I find most worrying

so am assuming the issues of the 29er from quite a few years back have been sorted

I had problems with my RC129 and ended up with a couple of frames that went back. Sorted without issue, I ended up with a refund as no more XL’s. I loved the bike and would happily have another.

If I hadn’t bought a stooge last year. i’d get one of these and a nice rigid fork.

    Joiner/Carpenter here.

Another vote for ALDI here, They for the money are really good, I have the 10.8v set for around the house and a larger 18v? one also. If your not going to get loads of use out of it then go for them.

    For work, I have:
    Makita SDS
    Makita 10.8v Set
a couple of 18v Dewalt drills.

All have served me day in day out for a fair few years.

IMHO anything over £100 for a DIYer is buying for the sake of it. But if you have the money they are nice toys to have.

Wasn’t Mountain Bike what gary fisher branded the first “ATB” and it stuck like Hoover and Bic?

For me MTB or ATB is peddaling a bike, any sort of bicycle off the tarmac.

boostinating means altering the dish I think. Not likely to be successful with a four year old Mavic Crossmax ST

    would this work:

Linderets Boostinator kit for standard hubs

    A bigger Stooge. (For Me)

Awesome bike but an extra inch or two and ability for me to run a dropper and it would be spot on :)

I personally was really pleased with a set of BB7 brakes i had on my charge, BUT i’d get hydro if the cost wasn’t much more.

I like shimano 105 so i’d get those if i was going to buy a full 11speed groupset.

I used to work in bike shops so got used to the official avid ones. They are good but the epic ones are just a good for a lot less money.

I’ve been using the same set for a few years no problem.

There are a few options for using a dropper and seat pack if you want both, but they depend on dropper/frame/wheel clearance.

I have a few bits from appkit that i use for general riding/bikepacking/commuting.

I tend to use a front rack more now. and use rock straps to fix a dry bag down. Rigid forks so gives a solid base for heavy items, also very easy on off for commuting.

I have the tapered dry bag from alpkit, i’ve used it by itself but found it a pain if you need to be in it mid ride.

Id say get a handlebar set-up, frame bag and use your backpack to get you started. Then add from there.

when i was a kid i had one bike, it did everything. my dad told me so. I just rode it,

24″ raleigh mob, with spare set of semi slicks for road riding. then went onto a 26″

question is will he enjoy it more?

Buy what you think he will get the most use out of and enjoy riding. My best biking memories are road loops round local villages and woodland loops.

    Dalby, Black/WC Course

Climb from near bottom of medusa’s drop to top of medusa’s.

Not exceptionally hard but the start gets me, bad line out of the corner and your gonna stop, steep and slippy.

A lot of people walk up “k2” on Sutton Bank red route (although not technically a trail centre). I can do it, but my knees are never happy about it.

It’s a Pace. If anything goes wrong you’re on your own.

I’ve problems with 3 Pace frames,

    2x RC129
    1x 305

Been sorted every time. If I didn’t have a stooge I’d seriously look at one of these.

I ride out of Alwoodley a bit. I’ll keep an eye out.
My dad lives there. He has had his garage done twice. Def by someone who knew what they where looking for.
You haven’t by any chance had some building work done recently?

I have salsa bend 23degrees on my stooge. 710 wide.
They also do a 17 degree version.

Not a great deal about if you want wide.

Stooge motos would be worth a look, not wiggly as such, but plenty of sweep.

I ran sb8 for a while on a mixed fireroad/tarmac commute. 16mile round trip. Found punctures a problem with them. But tubeless/slime in tubes would solve that.

I now use schwalbe marathon mondials in 29×2″ bombproof and the wear rate is excellent. The only downside is the weight. Damn heavy but truly fit and forget

I’ve been playing around with front racks a fair bit lately for commuting and i’m pretty impressed with the blackburn outpost. I like the stiffness the top rack adds compared to lowriders. I had previously used salsa down unders then the down under with a minimalist rack on top. The blackburn gave me a stiffer alternative at less than the cost of a surly nice.

I run these mainly with a 13 or 20 litre dry bag on top. but if i need extra a pair of ortlieb front rollers.

P-clips or seat tube mount would work best.

Most racks well “bend” to the correct width for 120mm-135mm rear ends

I’ve been having a look at the specialised turbo hybrid as Simon Barnes as a commuter,

How does gearing compare on e-bikes? theres no way i’d look at a 48t for my commute. would you look at the same ratios as you would for a normal bike?

I have a 25% climb to deal with, has anyone tackled similar whats the difference? did you do it in the same gear as you would on normal bike or otherwise?

Simon Barnes how would the spec deal with forest fire roads?

    I’m just over 6’2″ with a 35″ inside leg.

    Really like it.

Set up with 90mm stem over 45mm spacers, 23degree bend bars.

A lay back post would be nice but can’t find one long enough.

My Stooge all built up with Gusset lofty, 450mm post sits just under seat stays.

    Really pleased with the ride.

I really like screw on freewheels. Lovely solid feel, hubs with pop in bearings.
Currently I have a surly on one bike and a Paul one on my road bike. The Paul one is lovely but only prettier than the surly, both perform the same. Screw on freewheels I’ve been using brick lane bikes ones. Very good.

When you say you can’t fit a mech hanger, do you want to?

There are always options. For example a couple of brands do chain tugs with mech hangers and also axle mounted hangers.

Spa cycles do a td-2 super compact chain set. Which I’m guessing would have a similar Q factor to a road chain set so the pedal position and chain line would be improved over a Mtb chain set.

You would need a square taper bb how ever with one

I had a weeride and didn’t get on with it. Might be being tall and having long legs. Didn’t like riding bow legged.

Now have a Hamax which I really like. Also have Thule trailer use both on and off-road (what I’d do with a kid)

Every ride I put on strava is private. All my history is now private and I still get random requests from riders.

Plenty from America, this week a guy from Israel.

I do rack up some miles and some climbing, and ride a top 100 climb every day so assumed it was that when my rides where visible. But now it’s private It must be coding.

What i’m saying is that we can’t just lump all e-bikers into one category. If we do, we are no better than the red socks brigade that want us mtbers out of “their” countryside.

There will always be a small majority that don’t have respect, and others shouldn’t suffer for it.

Nobody has mentioned banning anyone – have a read!

    The post above mine.

Lumping people together is not a fair comparison.

By that logic mtbing should be banned due to riders using footpaths and building illegal trails.

I have an eten (about to go in the classifieds ;) )

Really good post. Easy to service. It’s been “sticky” a couple of times but taken it apart and re-greased it and it’s been fine.

Stif in summerbridge often have good deals on ks stuff (when in stock)

I also ride with a guy who has a Raleigh rsp one that has been very good.

Fair point about the ti one being springy. I have a steel on at the moment. It’s got some spring to it.

Just nervous about running a seatpost above seatstays even though there is the brace on the front

I’d like one for commuting. Plenty of other things in life to make things easier.

I also don’t buy into the e-bikes do more damage.

Also saying it’s cheating?? Cheating what? It just someone out on their bike

So my stooge arrived yesterday :)

Starting to build it up now but having seatpost issues :( my dropper isn’t long enough.

Straight Thomson will have to do until I get something else in layback.

Was anyone else nervous about running a post above the seatstays?

Sounds like a 2nd roadie bike will be a winner, Like your post.
Have a look also at specialised allez, Giant Defy etc.

Anything with a drive chain that is cheap as chips to replace 9speed tiagra etc. (A chain and cassette can be just over £20 together) Keep the money for your better bike.

if money is tight really think about the worst conditions you will ride in.

    Snow? Ice? Mud?

Last thing you want is too blow £300 on a bike that will spend time in the shed.

For me although a 25c road tyre will do most of the time a 32c marathon gets me through autumn and winter where its a bit mucky. A 35c winter marathon gets through the ice. I’ve used a CX/Touring bike most of the time as it covers more bases.

Now i ride a rigid 29er as it gives me more options in the woods to go play. :)

I have a tough commute to work and i’m really starting to fancy a 29er hardtail e-bike makes far more sense than getting a car for mornings when i haven’t got full steam and have a tough day ahead.

The issue is people who take them on trails and do far more erosive damage than a person ever could. If it’s enough to annoy other MTB’ers you can be sure it’ll annoy ramblers.

I’m really not convinced how an e-bike can do any more damage than an average bloke on a mtb.
Plenty of people ride faster than an e-bike can on sections I ride, drag brakes etc.

The argument of people de-restricting them is a pointless one. Plenty of mtber ride footpaths and only last week i was overtaken by a motocross bike on a bike path.

Inbred was filmed in Thirsk where i live. There was outrage when it was announced,

    Death Proof I like.

Gladiator Cop is my favourite B movie. utter rubbish with pointless scenes but an excellent post pub watch

    Thanks for the input folks.

I’ve decided to put it off till next year. Look at something i really want to do. I don’t think i’ll do the cause justice if i rush into it, Also there is the injury factor which does worry me.

Buy a bike not a wheel size

Give them a test and see which one you prefer. I’ve had crap bikes in all wheel sizes
