Dmr make chain tugs with mech hangers on them for SS dropouts.

LLandegla, you be fine on a SS if you take plenty of cake.

    +1 for halo,

    aerorage/aerowarrior are good rims,

I have Halo freedoms on my 29er, will be a bit wide for standard road tyres

Looks nice, but they should have taken a pic of a bigger frame.

Same reason as why they don’t put pics of XL 26er’s in catalogues.

I got an email in seconds for “avoiding filters” when innocently posted pictures of surly stickers,

But when I sent a donation and asked a question, heard nothing.

Emailed asking about changing info, heard nothing.

I think that to me, and more than a few others, the whole 29er thing absolutely smacks of ‘manipulation’.

NO it doesn’t, YOU have YOUR riding style, YOU spend YOUR money. Plenty of reasons why in certain applications 29″ wheels work better than 26″.

SO many people who 29ers don’t suit just ignore these benefits, which is fair play as it doesn’t affect them. What is frustrating is how they bang on about “marketing bs” like a broken record and how no one has won a world cup DH race on one.

Do you people actually like riding bikes? If you do go effing ride one and worry about the worlds supply of 26″ vanishing when it does.

So when everyone goes 29 braking bumps will just get bigger negating some of the usefulness?

As if an extra 3 inches circumference is going to stop your wheel falling into lots of holes.

Nope just smooth them out, have you not been reading the reviews?

Bollocks. What I do object to is being told what is correct when no-one yet has come up with a cogent argument for adopting 29″ wheels

    Rolls better.

But really, don’t listen to them. I ride a rigid bike and can happily ignore all the marketing bullshit around suspension.

the only people who care about wheel size are people who ride 26″.

I thought about chain interference, but by running the smaller rings than middle that should keep the timing chain out of the way of the drive chain and also the front mech moving across.

When the bb’s turn up i’ll be able to test it for real, makes life a lot easier than a “proper” chainset

Nobody’s said that it’s going to happen in this thread, but by all means have a go

I’d like to see it happen, even only if its to see pinkbike explode.

Tried to get a demo on the Niner and the Santa Cruz,

biketreks ambleside (lakes) and Stif North Yorkshire, usually have demo’s, sorry if you’ve already tried them.

I’ve ridden all but the clockwork and the kinesis, some more than others.

I was looking for a bike for all round comfort and day riding, weight isn’t a massive issue to me got the bike down 22lb at the moment with not the lightest rims, rusting in salt water isn’t an issue to me either.

but its your money, ride them all as much as you can and pick the closet to your ‘dale. The EMD though is a great bike.

There’s less stuff to clean on a singlespeed, 1 rear cog to maintain over 9 and a mech.

BUT you still need to look after it.

Try before you buy please- I can kick arse on my 26er vs most riding friends on 29……..they spent £1000’s ….. I just spent £19.99 on new deore cassette ha

I bought into the hype last year….lasted 3 weeks

    Haha

I rode a few of the bikes in your list, but for longer rides they where stiff as hell and not great for long rides. Wouldn’t dream of riding one for a week off road. So I bought a Salsa El Mar.

If you’ve got the budget look at Ti, poss steel.

2.4″ tyres?? if its for comfort get a better frame.

But if your stuck on aluminium the Niner EMD (as above) is a better all rounder)

For me in the 20/22″ frame i’d be looking at the 29er would look better.

As for riding, for me the bigger wheels would be better as i’m out all day. There isn’t enough steep stuff for me to worry about having too long a bike as it would only be a small percentage of the ride.

If I rode the alps regularly and uplifts I’d go 26″.

The beauty of a choice 🙂

Its best to keep it straight,

Are the chain and cog for 1/8″? how does your chain sit on them?

The cube looks like a good bike.

I sent one the other day with PO

1st class recorded £6.20, but have been told allsorts of lies, including its too long to send by royal mail, even though it came from a shop and had a royal mail sticker on it.

I’ve also used parcel2go and they have been good,

Are you one of the diggers ? I know what hard work man handling barrows is for hours and hours so Can understand peoples animosity when shock horror a view of a non digger is aired

Not in that area. Like I said above, wasn’t attempting to shoot you down. If i did that to everyone who rode where I dig they would never turn up to help a load of ****ts.

I wasn’t being harsh, sorry if it came across like that.

I don’t do enough, but do go round local unofficial trails in the local woods with a spade and a rake, There are only a couple of us that do this and loads of other that ride it. We only do what our eyes see, or what we have the capacity to do.

All help, sponsorship ideas or two hands or a spade would be appreciated. I think a lot of other trail builders would agree.

The point being, some real thought has been put into it rather than hey quick, lets fix that quagmire.

The work has now been completed making the route more enjoyable for walkers, horse riders and cyclists.

Fair play really, as its a bridleway.

Most road wheels get advertised as CX as well.

for £280 i’d look around for some pre-built Mavic’s Kysirium Equipe or similar.

    like this:

not uncommon at all, neither is taking payment before dispatch.

what is common is that they show “in-stock” for what they have and “available in 2-5 days” for what they don’t.

    stock errors also come up.

I had some track dropouts fitted to an old Kona frame, cost around £160 all in, they also removed all the gear tabs and gave it a respray.

It was great in once sense, But in reality I should have just bought an inbred.

The best tensioners i’ve used are pauls melvin or a rohloff one, pricey but worth it.

Use a cheap shimano or an allen key one,

chaintugs on both sides can help a little also, but still not as good as getting it tight.

a cx bike is better at cxing
a mtb is better at mtbing

you can ride a 29er in a cx race, but I wouldn’t ride a cx bike on a lot of trails

    I’d use either happily.

    same as above £25-£30

But my lBS builds wheels for free if you buy all the parts off them,

    I’m running halo freedom discs,

bit heavier than what your after, but solid and wide. tubeless wasn’t a problem.

    They work out cheap too.
