I’m pretty sure this one was a dt swiss hub and QR,

135mm width with a solid 10mm axle, rather than flanges on the hub. So it would also take any standard 135mm rear hub.

The horse steak round there is good too.

    Have you had horse?

    lovely, much leaner than beef.

Looking forward to the seeing as much as i can in the first weekend.

    Got a ruler?

I’ve seen one with 135mm but no idea if its the same bike as yours.

I sincerely hope that the big brands’ marketing people read these forums.

I don’t, have you seen the bikes that come up in “Show me your….” threads.

I’m all for options on different wheelsizes but there are too many biased views on both pro and con sides of the argument for it to be based on the opinions of forum users.

Also 26″ hardtails aren’t except from Marketing BS its just the Marketing BS YOU want.

Bikes have progressed loads since 29er came along, not trying one of the larger sizes based only on you not thinking the wheelsize for you is only going to limit yourself. There plenty of 29er/650b hardtails that are more fun to ride than some 26er hardtails. Choose a bike on ride not wheelsize.

9t on the back is usually a one piece driver

But some do have splined (like mtb cogs)

You can get replacement pawls etc, is it currently like the above pic?

What make is the bike?? got a picture?

why do people ride bikes that are to big for them?

the customer is always right 🙄

    Not really a direct comparison,

I don’t think its that bad, I’ve got loads of “budget” kit recently that’s loads better than it ever used to be.

    Ride one way, train back?

2 or 3 trains 🙁 and takes just over an hour.

    I’m liking this idea though:

Couldn’t you drive in with the bike on Monday morning, ride home that day, ride in the next morning, drive home, rinse and repeat?

You can’t leave the car half way and cycle to it in the morning?

Thought of that, but might as well just drive home and do a ride from there.

I put all of my lights and reflectors on the left hand side. It helps compensate for the weight of the gears on the right.

My local hardware/plumbing supplies shop had one in. cost 70p I think.

Still working perfect now nearly two years later.

Get all my O rings/C clips/cable ties/electy tape etc from there.

Magazines are all dependant on the industry for a large proportion of their income, so of course they’re going to help perpetuate the idea that you should spend thousands on the latest thing. If any mag came out and said, “buy a £100 clunker from gumtree, that’ll get you where you want” it wouldn’t do lots for their advertising sales I reckon.

It would also make for a crap magazine.

Accessible to me = grass roots

Grass roots of mountain biking is a cheap bike and a bridleway. enjoy it then save up and move up. Pretty accessible in my eyes, but it’ll never compare to football/Running/etc

Do it for beer and pizza.

    +1

I fix a few peoples bikes for beer. For reasons above.

If your not a pro mechanic with the back-up don’t try to be one, it’ll end up coming back to you.

You’ll always get natural v trail centres on here. There’s no doubt what has the best to offer, but if your after a simple time with a group then go to a couple of trail centres.

I’d personally drive to the lakes (easy hour and half drive from manchester), Grizedale and Whinlatter are pretty good, base yourself near Keswick which is a great little town with good pubs etc.

Then to keep the natural lovers happy the Borrowdale bash is really easy to follow. Plenty of sites have a good map of the route.

Depends on rim width, I ran some 45c (I think) Smart Sams on some 23mm H plus sons rims.

No as with anything there are poor shops everywhere, Try somewhere else. If Evans is near give them a go. People give them grieve but if you put their stores up against an equal amount of randomly chosen LBS the horror stories would even out.

Can you get way with just wiring one end – probably the grips inner?

Yes, but you won’t. Ever eaten a single pringle?

A sign that mountain bikers are less affluent than hipsters roadies? and it was an expensive magazine.

I got a few, treated it more as book, that I’d pick up when it looked interesting but rarely.

I’ve done it with florist wire, about 2mm thick,

Put the middle of the wire on the grip, then smooth it round till it meets. Twist the excess ends together until tight, grip the twisted bit with some pliers and turn till tight, (You’ll break a few wire’s till you get hang of it.) then cut off whats not needed and press into grip to keep it away from hands.

got one on the timing belt of my tandem now probs.

Are you trying to run a singlespeed without a tensioner?
In my experience just take the photo then stick a tensioner on the back it just works better long term.

So its you getting KOMs on ya motocross bike..

I took a guy for his first mtb ride there a few months back. He downloaded strava for it and was all set.

He was pleased with his pace when riding but gutted when he realised on one of the first sections on the blue had a 35mph KOM 🙁

I did tell him it was either a glitch or Crosser.

I’ve also used them on all my bikes and a fair bit heavier than you, (Fat Biffer)

Been fine, can’t see myself snapping it unless I have a big crash.

Its not uncommon now to get Balloons for memorials that are made from Latex, which is biodegradable, But I still get your point.

STW would be a better place if the Mods gave a shite and stopped blatant trolling.

Anyway before I get into old man style rant I’m off to ride my bike. If I see a tube I’ll be removing it.

I had a bipper for a while, which was just crap. still had to take wheels off to fit bikes in the back.
The cabin was small and uncomfortable.

The berlingo/caddy ones are a much better mix.

I follow these simple rules with buying a bike.

Try it, Like it, buy it

    or

Try it, don’t like, didn’t buy it.

I’ve done a couple in different places and enjoyed them, The ones I’ve done have had a mix of Fireroad/singletrack/roads. But that’s down to the location more than Evans. As not many places in the uk can offer 35 miles of pure singletrack. If your a soloist you’ll be able to find a group to latch onto.

I think £15 is fair enough for what it is, (essentially a sportif) but i’d personally prefer and evening in the pub with the guys i ride with and OS map searching for bridleways to ride the following sunday

Unless your eyes have got worse i wouldn’t worry about it,

Lights get used generally in shite conditions, use it till it properly dies.

I stumbled across that bike a week or so ago when they put the new bikes up,

I really like the look of it, If there’s still some left in my size next spring I think there is a good chance I’ll get one, The felt F4 2014 is a close 2nd. Very similar spec and only a couple of hundred more.

Not really an option as the company is paying for it.

    That sounds good,

    Carbon Niner 😉

The Cooker looks good but I doubt it would after six months living outside in the sea air and being used and abuse by every Tom, Dick and Harry.

The cannondale is likely to get just as battered just as much, there will also be loads of other parts that corrode before the frame.

Why not just get a 2nd hand rockhopper/cannondale/trek etc for couple hundred quid and singlespeed that?

I had ones that went really manky, I used the camelbak tablets and gave it a real good scrub, came up fine.

Not tried milton but do keep it in the freezer.

The wife has a few of the Emma Bridgewater ones, does the job, they look pretty on the dresser and other women folk always comment on them, Stays warm for ages.

They do custom ones also if you want an Audi and Orange 5 painted on the side.
