Another happy el mar owner here.

mines an xl and about 23-24lbs, really pleased with it.

been running it singlespeed for about 18 months now just about to put some gears on.

    what size are you after??

Triton cycles have the salsa el mar small and XL on special offer they also have the charge cooker pretty cheap too.

I’ve been really pleased with my salsa El Mar, after a list of other 29er frames.

I’d class natural as a tail that was created by use rather than tools.

Lots of singletrack on the moors near me have been created by generations of people/animals walking over them. The surface is purely worn into the landscape.

But to answer the original question. Get a map with trail centres on and pick 1 from each region,

    CYB
    Glentress
    Whinlatter
    Dalby
    Thetford

Spend one day on the trail centre, the next with an OS map in the nearby region. This will give you an insight into whats good/bad for you and what is on offer on this island. Then start looking at other similar spots.

    I have both,

In proper mud I prefer the neoguard.

The rest of the time I use the mucky nuts. I like it but find it clogs up easily, (but this could be down to shape of my fork crown and tyre combo)

Or go back to better canti’s with some Kool Stop Salmon pads.

I’ve got some Reba SL that have been great.

at 100mm travel they felt a bit long (axle to crown) on my 1st gen swift but some models you can make them 80mm.

Nothing fancy about them, just simple and work.

I’ve seen them around £400 at a few places. Maybe less if they are trying to clear them.

What good will the helper be if the rider falls to the right, eh?

To grab hold before the rider goes all the way over. FFS Have you just got into cycling this century

    Reinvented wheel?

Electric motor wheels aren’t a new thing, I had a blast on one years ago, was good fun but not as good as a proper electric bike.

I’ve sent a few shocks through the post and always just said “bicycle parts”. I’m guessing they have never checked whats inside so got away with it.

Ever been out for a few beers with mates and one of them has to go home early due to other commitments? Is the biggest drinker expected to escort them home?

If I took a mate to a pub I’d be by their side till the pizza’s where on the table.

Organized group – No-one should ever be left to fend for themselves. Maybe a polite word after the ride.

Group of mates/unofficial group – A bit different, but if riding with who I ride with, everyone gets home(or to the car)

So if you were that slow rider and had a mate in the fast group, would you expect him to trundle back to the car park with you?

If I took a mate to a ride I’d be by their side till the pints where on the table.

I’ve stayed here a few times when up there with work. Really nice with good breakfast. Great Pizza restaurant round corner and easy walk into City centre.

The only real out of proportion increase is if you compare branding. XTR – XTR.

If you look at what technology you get in Alivio. Its far superior that higher models 10 years ago.

so, is he saying that if you go into a counterfeit caff and have a coffee, you might fall over and smash your shoulder?
or do I have the wrong end of the stick?

IMHO the issue is wheels being branded as “roubaix” not the cafe.

Specialized are chasing down anyone who sells a product that may imitate theirs.

not really, I rather ride a modern £1k bike than a 15 year old £1k bike.

    (Both New Obviously)

I have a minoura B60 and its pretty good, Simple and does the job. I have used a posh bike in it no problems also.

There’s a few accessories that are worth getting,:

    – Something to stop sweat hitting the bike, (more of a problem than flex in my opinion)
    – Front wheel stand – Not essential but helps.
    – something to do whilst on it, (sufferfest-dvd player etc)

I do keep looking at the old 1/8th one i have in the workshop and thinking about taking a dremel to it.

Which Nobby Nic did you have?

I felt the same about an OEM/cheap pair I had, the more expensive ones with better sidewalls seemed a lot better.

Not surprised at this really, with all the complaints about cyclist safety and all.

evening of sorting out my bike to meet requirements ahead of me, can’t be bothered with the hassle of dealing with PCSO’s for the sake of a couple of bits of plastic that are there to help me be seen.

Rode both in the summer, no probs with 32-19 on a 29er.

Minch Moor was fine, just don’t try and cut the corners they hurt.

The only downside i found to SS there was spinning out on some of flat/slight downhill sections.

Most LBS cannot buy trade what the online giants sell to Joe public.
How are they supposed to compete?
It’s bugger all to do with them being “crap” as you say.

Offering other services, creating a community etc many options.

    Good business will always survive.

Its not all about who has the cheapest rear mech, its a factor but there are many other opportunities for shops to make money and thrive.

Yes CRC,Wiggle and the Germans are cheap but they’re killing your local crap bike shop.

Good shops are being finished off by high rates as above. Plenty of independents that over excellent service and will easily survive against the online crew.

Just marketing BS to push an out dated standard.

eBay will be flooded with Vintage NOS 2011 26″ rims by Christmas.

    So, let’s see.

1: The guy in the video is overreacting to non-problems.

2: Cycling sensibly with good technique and a “give way” attitude can help avoid accidents.

3: Cycling with aggression and a sense of over-entitlement can cause more accidents.

4: Some motorists are inclined to be “cyclist-unaware”.

    That about cover it?

    bingo !

So many non-problems there with him constantly speaking out registration numbers. The car that overtook him “fast” left a big gap. Yes there was some relatively bad stuff like being cut up but most was not worthy of being posted. On balance I think the video is bad for cycling safety.

    +1

Can’t really see much of it being different if he was in a car.

Do you really not understand that if you concentrate your resources on dealing with errant cyclists you’ll save a lot less lives than concentrating the same resources on drivers? Cars simply aren’t the same as bicycles – to treat them equally is absurd if your aim is road safety.

A lot of it is a PR campaign, to give the impression cyclists are above the law by not enforcing the laws they brake is just asking for trouble.

In the grand scheme of things of few traffic cops looking for cyclists is very small compared to the amount that are on the roads looking for motorists every day.

    Singlespeed_Shep

Focus should be on the road users killing people, i.e. those with internal combustion engines that weigh tons.

Unless the cyclist jumped a red light/had no lights/was being irresponsible.

As someone said above not enough facts about it all but ALL road users need to be looked at to make roads safer not just the biggest ones.
