What if all you get is egg mayo and you don’t like it? everyone on here is bitching and moaning because i won’t pay for ST but why should i pay for something i wont read. No one would expect to pay for a gym they never go to.

Yep, i don’t get it. (why people are moaning at you)I like the mag. Read and enjoy about two thirds each month. Don’t care if other people don’t like, if you don’t, don’t buy it.

As for the website, its free for a reason – Traffic. If they don’t get loads of traffic they don’t get ad’s. Dont want to see ad’s?? The pay premier.

I hope a lot of the haters stick to their words and actually give up mountain biking because of this wheel size issue.

Nobody’s said they’ll do that, that I’ve seen?

As i posted in a response above. not a direct response no anyone in particular but its the impression i get from peoples attitudes and from speaking to a few people out on the trails.

I do think your right that people are more likely to hold off. As just riding a bike is more important than a wheelsize.

Its down to a question of value. by that note you would say that a £40 sandwich is pocket change!

For a years worth of sandwiches, I’d think its a bargin, even if i got a egg mayo one every week so. Egg Mayo doesn’t interest me so I’d just skip to the next ham and cheese.

I would be pretty annoyed if i got a baguette though as i only like white bread sarnies.

Matt @18 seems pretty sorted and would be on my list but don’t seem as bling if that’s what you want

I like variety. I’m never going to read every article and love it some just don’t interest me. If every mag was solely full of the same crap every week no-one would buy that either. The magazine is distributed to so many people it just can’t stick to the same stuff, it needs to appeal to more and more readers each month.

Some months are good some aren’t so. That’s what you guess with years of buying the same blokes writings.

I like the look of it, might not end of the summer when I’ll be looking to buy my next bike.

£400 is great value when you look at other frames at that price.

    @ SS_Shep – Is your 18bikes a 29er?

No, I had pub bike made.

Matt was excellent, talked through what I wanted then over a few conversations and emails we got it finalised.

I was a pain in the a£$e customer, wanting a couple of alterations along the way. Some could be worked in some couldn’t. Overall it was great. I wanted a simple bike to ride to the pub, down a few bridleways with nice parts.

I’d recommend looking through the flickr’s etc of a few frame builders. make a list of the nice features you’ve seen on other bikes, A rough geometry ideals. Then speak to a few builders and see what they can do. Just because you haven’t seen a framebuilder doing what you want doesn’t generally mean they can’t do it, more like their customers haven’t asked for it.

Its a great process I’ll be getting a new mtb frame in the next few years and will be going down the handmade route for sure.

    Half new.

If it has a “converted 150mm” rear end you could stick in on ebay for agessss.

    Who’s said that?

No one in particular in this thread but the impression is there from people attitudes, It has come up in other wheel threads.

    They’re lying.

So they built a bike no one wants?? and forced people to buy them?? 😆

I’m looking forward to the quieter trails. 😆

I could probably fit bigger wheels on the 26 ragly frame I recently bought but would not want to as the bottom bracket would be too high for me. That is a part of geometry that I really do notice a change in when riding. Just a small increase in what I am used to and I feel really high up and less balanced.

Chip. You don’t seem to understand Geo.

I got that as bigger tyres makes a higher BB??

I have no idea what most of the other stuff your on about,

A fat tyre on a 26″ will not ride the same as a skinny tyre on a 650b

I’d be pretty pee’d off. Especially as a lot of places do a cheaper re-furb’d unit.

    Distance selling-refund??

I use a towel underneath and on the frame to protect the bike and floor.

Sweat isn’t nice to get on anything. If you need a special matt or cloth is debatable.

Strava is probably more of a side-effect than a cause of other people using the trails, IMO.

If i’m going to a new area to ride that i don’t know i’ll take a quick glance on strava to see where people are riding and use to help build a loop along with an OS map. I can’t be alone in that.

For those blaming Strava. Do you also blame guns for killing people? or is it the person using the gun thats at fault?

I get your point, but its not really the same. Strava with Kom’s etc encourages certain people to ride unsociably and cut corners. Riders have always done it, but not as many as now because currently there is a carrot in front of them.

Guns don’t do that, if there was a strava esq website for killing people then that would be the same.

build a trail – a couple of people ride it.

put it on strava and hundreds will flock to have a go.

I find one a valuable aid to cooking.

+1 excellent for gutting a pizza from its box and sticking it in the oven.

I also find my wife useful around the farm, although once I forgot she was there when I went into town. This was problematic when looking at other wives.

I haven’t got one. But I have had a ride on a Ogre.

Pretty standard spec with brooks saddle, deore, BB5’s and some salsa bend bars. I really liked it. Smooth ride and really comfortable. If i had the space and money i’d buy one.

I have a 2013 salsa el mar, which is lighter and more suitable for use with a sus fork, but not as practical as the ogre in terms of luggage etc.

Item with tags on it – including an Evans price tag? That would count as proof of purchase in my book.

Not really, How do you prove its not stolen. A black and white policy helps enforce this. Unfortunately genuine people will get caught in the crossfire.

Evans also (or used to) ask for postcodes on a lot of sales to keep a track of what customers are buying. Say yes and there is a record of everything. Also comes in handy if you need a refund/warranty.

I unfortunately think you would get a similar response at most (not all) chains.

I’ve run 23c tyres on my Ztr Arch no probs,

They are only 1.4mm wider than the rims on my road bike.

(I used 23c because its what I had, having a choice I’d go bigger)

I’ll be riding out both days to see 2mins of cycling, enjoy the rest of my ride and watch it later on tv.

Really looking forward to it. 🙂

sorry bud but no. You riding xc/trails? at 6′ I don’t know why you would want to ride with a bar width of 680mm unless it just tame bridleways etc you’re riding I think a wider bar enables more leverage which equates to less force being needed to hold the bars straight at high speed when you hit something that tries to pry the bars from your grip.

Comfort. I’m a few inches over 6′ and wouldn’t go bigger than what I have. I also feel i’m plenty strong enough to turn the bars at speed especially after years of narrower bars.

Never cut a bar before trying

710mm works for me, on an XL frame with 110mm stem,

I’ve had some sks longboards on my winterbike for most of this winter and they’ve been excellent.

Mudflaps make all the difference on road bikes.

Mountain bike has crud guards and a (inner tube) neo guard.

Wouldn’t ride a bike in winter without mudguards.

    only really need 2 things,

-shorted chainring bolts/or washers (to take care of only having 1 ring)

-chain device on top, either leave your front mech on or get something like this from superstar: (£20)

That will stop your chain bouncing off. There are lots of other versions also.

After achieving nearly 365 KOM’s last year, 1 a day roughly, I’ve started to feel I need to down grade to smaller wheels to make my group rides more sociable
