The trails usually get a little busier but no more really than a saturday.
The carparks and fields though are usually rammed with familys.
If you start up at the top (Dixons Hollow) Its usually quieter up there and less volumes of people on the trail.
As above late afternoon is a great time to go.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberHas anyone bought one of their 953 seat posts? Want to know if they creak or any other issues before I decide if i should buy one……
I have one, almost a year old now and no issues what so ever.
It uses thomsom guts so pretty solid, Very nice etching and logos also.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberI’m in the never had any problems camp.
You won’t get a great deal of money for them either way so id probably just fit them and run till they die on a commuter.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberYou were trying to reason with an idiot. He will win on experience.
+1
Grab a mate
Go to the pub
Buy a beer (get him to buy you one)
Tell him about the w***er you saw this morning
laugh about it
have another beerSinglespeed_ShepFree MemberUltimately I really don’t care. If they had a bike right for me I’d buy it.
I think the Roubaix thing was a little off but another bike with a similar name, fair play to the lawyers sorting it out. They will be a 3rd party business that is told to go chase all infringements.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberTouring bikes to Ripon or Harrogate, some beers then ride back.
Looking forward to it 🙂
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberNumbers are pointless. Try it on and if it feels right buy it.
Not necessarily, if your not used to riding bikes what feels right for you in a car park test or sit on in the shop may be uncomfortable for anything over 15 miles.
Saying someone is 5’10” so they must ride a 54 is pointless.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberI’d be very interested to find out more about this, maybe give it a go.
Anyone got any pointers for an intrigued wannabe…?
I personally was recommended bemindfulonline, really pleased with the results.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberI’ve been really pleased with the results of using mindfullness.
Really helped me with anxiety and depression. My life would be completely different if I had discovered it at school.
I’ve found it helps with enhancing experiences in my day to day life and really understanding what’s important by enjoying the little things rather than just living in an autopilot and worrying about something that may never happen.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberDon’t then, look for a better value brand. Plenty out there.
Altura
Craft
Optimum
Plenty of places now have own brand – DHB/WiggleSinglespeed_ShepFree Member90% Sure I saw one of these last year in Harrogate last year:
no real help to you, but if i was right it shows they are about or someone is making similar.
Really nice bikes, when I was sorting out my custom frame I looked into them and their work.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberI think what they are getting at is:
The area of both tyres should be the same. Its based on contact with the rim not contact area with the floor.
The force on the rim is greater at 100psi compared to 30psi.
edit: beaten to it.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberPauls minimoto’s or any mini v would fine with canti levers, the only downside is tyre clearance.
It will be tight on a mtb tyre but fine on a thinner tyre or slick.
You could look at better quality canti’s like the Avid shortys with a good set of pads.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberFair enough really if its down to media rights, I can see it being more that than “please don’t sue”
Singlespeed_ShepFree Memberso its not a problem with LBS’s, just one shop.
+1
Or even a problem with one person in one shop.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberWhat about when I do a gnar bunnyhop, fail, and catch my rear wheel on a kerb/stone/orphan? Will this rip the back wheel out and catapult me into the Sun?
Bmx/dirt jump bikes don’t seem to have a problem with it.
It’s the dropouts that are stopping me. It’s between this and the Surly Straggler for me at the moment
I think the cotic ones look simpler than the surly straggler ones
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberEDIT ha ha clearly singlespeed shep kind of has…
I didn’t speak to the owner just the lad direct, probably s~~t him up a bit getting a call at work. (If he knew me he probably actually wouldn’t be scared)
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberCall the shop and speak to him.
I was scammed (or someone attempted through classifieds) a couple of years ago,
Bought some wheels for £340, no sign of them after a week so dropped him an email,
Ah sorry mate I’ve decided no to sell them. I’ll refund you.
Got a refund for £300. Wasn’t impressed.
Ignored all my emails etc. So i put his email into facebook, found out he worked in a bike shop. So I called the number asked to speak to him and said I wanted the £40 back either through paypal or in cash when I’m in the area in a week or so.
It was sorted very quick after that,
Also is there enough parts missing to compare parcel weights??
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberNow that “enduro” is the new golf you have to spell everything out.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberIt would be good if we could just provide the proof of purchase and book warranty issues directly with fisher.
As Mikewsmith said, its up to the retailer to sort it out, your contract is with On-one/planet x not Fisher or any other shop.
Anyone else is doing you a favor and giving up time to help someone who hasn’t put any money their way.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberI ran 32c tyres in my paddy wagon for a bit, was fine in the frame just a little tight in the brake when it got a little mucky.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberYou’ll really need to find something that will make you some money along side it.
There is after a reason why 100’s of established business’s have passed this stock by, Its the dregs. Its not as glamorous as finding a box load of chris king threaded headset that years of stock takes have forgotten.
You’d need to invest heavily in google and other search engines as stocking random old unwanted parts would need a wide catchment to make sales or ebay (good bye another % of your margin)
Sports Pursuit have a similar model to what you are saying BUT they also work with new up and coming brands to get some exposure to bring other items with more of a return. I can’t really see sports pursuit’s model lasting long as more and more general retailers will be putting pressure on suppliers not to deal with them.
Also good luck getting decent suppliers to deal with you without a shop. Some will but the majority will turn away.
But thats not to say it won’t work, decide on what you want to do, plan it all out and don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
Singlespeed_ShepFree Memberhow slow would you have to walk or ride a horse to avoid a dog that was madly darting about ? I think the issue is a dog out of control.
Yes it does sound like the dog was out of control, but as other people have pointed out care should be taken when riding in the area of dogs/unpredictable animals.
Not putting blame on the OP in anyway, but there are parts of the NY moors near me which are swarming in summer with tourists and dogs, you just can’t ride fast through them.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberI have 180mm, I wanted the most i could get for my money, same reason I always buy the biggest frame available.
(sensible answer: I didn’t notice any difference)
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberHow is the cro moly tubing used by Surly different to the cro moly tubing used by On One?
The first On one frame I looked at didn’t state it was double butted, (like the Surly) But looking at others the do, and I can’t see On one using different steel tubes on dif 26″ inbreds. So in that case the tubes themselves have no difference and you’ll have to decide which is better. personally I think the 3d dropouts of the surly and the Paint are superior.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberTa for the reply.
But nearly 100% difference?
Really?I’d like to see a breakdown of the figures.
I wonder what percentage of the increase is ‘niche tax’?RRP on Surly 1×1 F+F is £399 (also includes seatclamp)
RRP on On One Inbred 26″ is £269.98So roughly a £130 difference on a branded frame with a slightly better steel tubing.
On one frame travels:
Factory (far east) – On One Warehouse (uk) – Customer
Surly Frame Travels:
Factory (far east) – Surly??? (USA) – Surly distributor (Ison-UK) – Retailer (UK LBS) – Customer.
So for the extra £130 there is a more travelling/hand to go through and more people to take a cut. (This is all taking aside which is the better frame as for most this will be personal preference)
This does show the advantages of the direct to market brands like OO/Planet X or Canyon and why they are taking a market share from brands you could buy from your lbs.
Also if you get your surly from a trusted LBS (How i got mine)you get the benefits of back up if anything goes wrong locally and the frame being checked, chased and faced. (again another variable as OO do have a shop that will be local to some people)
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberNot at all. The vast majority of bikes are bought by folk that go into Halfords/Decathlon/generic store and like the colour.
Yes fair point, i should have said higher end, premium bikes.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberThe image:
They appeal to a certain type of person who defines themselves by what they buy, rather than what they do and who judges others based on the same criteria.
I think this is a minority of their customers, but in the UK a significant one nontheless.I don’t think there are many comments on here that sum up the Uk’s mtb market better than this.
I’d say the vast majority of bikes are bought by people who feel they associate themselves with that brand. I fit that XXX stereotype so i’ll buy a XXX.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberI have a dynamo set up on my tourer, Really pleased with it so far (only a couple of rides in)
Supernova E3 Front light with a Supernova Rear.
On a shimano HubSinglespeed_ShepFree MemberI see at least one every time i go to Dalby, to be fair they don’t get as many funny looks as someone without a helmet.
When i was 15 I probably would have been stood their in my ROOX t-shirt laughing at you, but now I don’t care, tis your head.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberThe two bro’s are sound, always had time of day for me and my Q’s when i have nipped in on days when I have had my bike up in HOPE
If you drop on the other Gooner that works there, just walk on bye
I suppose service depends on who you get manning the ship.Nice username 😉
Another with good service here, Not local by any means but one I’ve traveled to on many occasions.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberAS above, yes I have one,
Really pleased with it, lighter than i expected, also runs with thomson clamps.
I also hadn’t removed it from the bike until recently it really is stunning with all the details.
Can’t really comment on exactly how smooth it is as its the only post I’ve had in the above. But the whole thing is a really smooth ride.
It also now has a lovely headbadge 🙂 That hadn’t arrived for photos.
If you want any more pictures of the post I can take some tonight.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberSaddles are a personal thing.
+1 if you have one that works on your other bikes for hours, get another.
Try and try again,
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberI had a rep show me the Polar one the other day,
Looked pretty good with a iphone/andriod App.
Once all your info is in weight/height etc It tells you how much Walking/running/sitting/standing etc you need to do to hit you target a day.
Its nothing you can work out yourself but it its a convenience and will make life easier and certainly help with motivation.
Singlespeed_ShepFree MemberIf only there was something I could do to make the trails feel a bit more, I don’t know, alive??
Hover boards, I mean why do we need to have contact with a dead trail??
More fun and lively than a 26er but with no rolling resistance what so ever.
Tony Hawks has one.
Singlespeed_ShepFree Memberi’m not sold – did one in jan with my dogma K and someone moaned that i didn’t have mudguards.
I told him there is not room on a dogma and i didn’t mind.
don’t get it?! you can’t fit mudguards on a proper roadie.
Its not you getting wet they are often worried about but the guy behind you.
