Hope the rider who got a lift in the air ambulance from section 2 is ok.

I was the marshall/first aider on Stage 2 at the accident.

The latest information I received late night was that he was out off the neck brace and awaiting some more tests from consultants. Which is a really good sign.

He fell on the course and due to the nature of his injury we had no option but to close the stage, with the hope that it would reopen but sadly it just took to long so the stage remained closed. Its a real shame to those who didn’t get to ride the stage sunday, but it was out of our hands.

Anyone know what happened to the guy that had a heart attack?

    He is also doing ok.

I get more annoyed with events than coaching. Velo29 and Yorkshire Grit are two events near me that aren’t very good at taking down their signage.

I’ve (like most people) have tried dozens of saddles. But the one i really like and use on my longer ride bikes is a Selle SMP TRK.

Like you i loved the Spoon and still use it on my MTB, gravel bike and commuter. But needed more comfort for longer rides. 100 mile plus.

I saw Mark Beaumont used Selle SMP on his round the world bike so looked into them.

It has a press relief channel, the nose drops away and you also sit in it like a hammock. so well worth a look.

I also really liked that it has all curved edges so the cut away doesn’t feel “sharp” or hard.

I’m not a vegan and not a foodie. I’ve been to a few vegan restaurants with friends that are vegan and found very little that appealed to me.

Things like vegan burgers, pizza, chilli and similar. Pretty much vegan versions of pub/cafe classics and you’d be alright, but you are talking of sticking a specialist cafe in the middle of nowhere.

It all depends if you want to do it as a business or a lifestyle.

I used to live and work in Ambleside, Zeffirellis would be a business for you to look at. Vegetarian restaurant in the lakes. Doesn’t ram vegan/vegi down your throat. but does plenty of options for all just without the meat and you wouldn’t probably notice it until you have gone through the entire menu.

offering somewhere for people to camp/toilets/showers would also be a good addition to the business like Tan Hill Pub in Yorkshire. Certainly would help people aim to visit you.

I think you will struggle with “driving round a bend on a country road, at night, at 50mph”

    BUT.

I would try and claim. even if goes nowhere its what you pay your insurance for.

I also have quad lock and it really is good. I originally bought it for the turbo but now use it on rides as well. They do an out front mount for it.

    I’ve had both a shimano DH-3n31 and a SP.

The shimano one i had like above was bombproof, I used it for commuting with a supernova light and didn’t look after it at all, Ran summer/winter through all weathers no problem.

The SP i had on my audax bike. again it worked well but was well looked after. I didn’t notice any performance difference between the two.

The advantage of the SP is its light and nicer looking.

If i was to buy another i would go for shimano again as it really did do the job well and was pretty much a fit and forget job.

its also £25 at rose bikes.

I also have a bridge street bag, really good and pretty lightweight.

I also have a chrome cadet bag (man bag) which is really good and I tend to use more as its easier to use out and about at work.

Whatever you get make sure its at least water-resistant as its a ball ache pulling a cover out.

    68″ (44×17) Fixed for me,

Used that on upto 200k audaxs.

Easy steady pace on the flat and i can climb on it. Got up the struggle in Ambleside on it last year. Had to stop a few times to let my legs settle but rode it all.

As soon as i found for distance riding its all about the easiest gear you can get away with not the hardest my rides where a lot easier. When climbs are hard just stop take a breather and get going again.

Would the council let you change the number? If it’s number 20 that is the problem change it to 18b or 19b.

probably not, but they would let you change it to a house name.

But there is a number of people who just do it. A new estate I go to is all numbers and 4 houses have now got names instead of numbers and they haven’t gone through the council. Their post also has no mention of the correct number either. Some others have both up, Say “22 Singletrack Towers”

Change the name to something like Glebe House, Fairview, Church View etc with a big sign, a new front door/paint etc and it’ll be reet,

The new house name won’t be linked on Google to the previous and the postcode will relate to the whole street anyway.

Once you’ve updated all your business info thats all they will look for. after 6 months it will be the odd letter that comes to the old number or name. (Apart from the odd website where you can’t update their house numbers for addresses)

When i worked for Evans cycles, We had concession store within a larger Blacks store in York.

They (Blacks) put up large posters in the store of a 6-7 year old girls building a sand castle, with the slogan “Summer made Sexy”

I still think that was a lot worse than this balls-up by HM.

My nephews are really into jungle animals and i would buy them this hoodie if i saw it.

Anyone else just want to know what happened in said house??

Yeah i did, I think i found it. but if i post it on here it will be another customer lost for the OP

Why do you think people will Google the full address?

Because they are lost and are looking for it?

I’m a postie, people change the name of their houses all the time.

There is a proper channel, going through highways and royal mail. but plenty just do it themselves.

Every street in england will have at least 2 houses without numbers or names on.

If you do go about it yourself, give your postman a heads up to change his frame and stick a big clear sign on it with the new name.

There isn’t much difference in manufacturing costs on any stem really so I guess it’s just paying for the name.

Run your fingers around the edges of cheap stem and an expensive one. Any sharp edges and your handlebar will snap.

I’m not saying everyone should buy £100 stems, but at least look for one from a company with some quality control or give it a good check over yourself and go at it with a file if needs be.

Have you gone through insurance? Your own or the drivers. We’re the police ever notified?

You may find that in accepting a settlement (replacement of bike and clothing as declared at the time) that the driver isn’t obliged to cough up any more on terms of compensation…

NO and NO, Down to it being someone I knew.

And that is what i was wondering really. Because I went off the information at the time of the incident which was a an all clear from the A+E unit.

    Red kit trail

There is the link to the routes for red kite, easy to get to the Spofforth section from central Harrogate. It also links into Harewood as other mention and I also ride out of Alwoodley a bit and there is loads of bridleways round there, and i do like the Harewood, Eccup. Emmerdale area.

You could also head north via the Berryl Burton Way cycle path to Ripley and head into the Dales.

Personally, I feel sorry for Mamils. When they walk into a café dressed head-to-toe in Lycra, you’ll always spot people sniggering at them. And yet you don’t know what that person looked like six months or even a year ago. It may be that they were once twice the size they are now until cycling transformed them and they feel great about how they look. Of course, that is the positive way of looking at it. The flipside is that Lycra isn’t the most elegant material you can wear and professional cycling gear generally looks awful on pretty much anyone heavier than eight stone and with more than five per cent body aerodynamic fat. But there is a better solution. For me, the most important consideration is to choose attire that is functional, but looks stylish too.

I’ve seen this covered by plenty of newspapers. I personally think when you read the GQ article itself it makes perfect sense. Lycra doesn’t look great on 90% of people but thats probably not why they wear it.

Don’t worry about temperature/speed/insistity of exercise.

If you sweat whilst on your bike, a vest will make you more comfortable. Both summer and winter.

    Singlespeed_Shep

    Its marketing guff thats all.

I used to work for Craft, The idea for the vests came from the Tour.

We never had to “Sell” the vest to shop. Just walk in, give a few to staff and get them to try them. Every shop that tried them, bought and sold them.

They really do make you more comfortable on hot days than just wearing a jersey (of any kind) by itself.

Maybe you could explain what the advantage is of pushing a bike at walking pace compared to riding a bike at walking pace?

Control, remember your talking about the general public on £100 bikes, not the average uberskilled forum whore.

My general rule is, if it’s at a road crossing I’ll ride, if there is no-one walking on a shared path behind one of these signs, I’ll ride (slowly)and if it’s busy, I’ll generally walk (except on Sunday when I rode and paid the price).

    +1

I do believe the signs should say “please” and “during peak times/busy periods”

Yeah thats the one from eBay, Pretty good, but you need to keep switch qr axles. And i know he had problems with a frame that had 3d dropouts and the mounts needed bending to fit,

looking at pictures on google the ikea one, handle switches round to fit on the bike.

    Drop bar v-brake levers

you could also use these and some bar end shifters like

    Ebay shifters

A problem solvers travel agent or similar would solve the road levers/mtb cable brake problem.

When i was looking for a touring bike a few years ago, Thorn was one I looked at in great detail.

I also had a look at:

    Spa cycles,
    Rivendell (USA)
    Oxford bike works.

All four had similar options on running a disc on the front. Not needed over a v-brake. Fork compliance came into that as a disc brake needed a stiffer fork. Also they are more complicated than a v-brake. All the independent brands seem to take this approach. I’m guessing touring bikes with disc are aimed at different market to the high end v-brake ones. Two main types of people are going to look at a tourer. Commuters/short tourers and those that will head out on mega long distance expeditions.

I came very close to buying a Spa, until a local bloke put his ridgeback up for sale. Which I bought.

For the money I really think Spa are hard to beat,

In terms of it being a building site, the wooden roof, bolards etc are there to stop you and others getting hurt.

I’d Just get off and push, wait infill the building work is done then get back on with riding through it.

If it wasn’t a building site and didn’t have a genuine reason why you should dismount i would ignore it.

Don’t know what you’d need specifically for biking

Mainly just better handling of sweat.
