yes I’m not looking for something to use in the workshop. i too like to hear what’s going on if table saw etc. and i have big speakers 😀.

and as i said i dont get on with earbuds, tho I’m sure they work well.

over ear noise cancelling sound good then for sander/ hoover etc .

any recommendations? obvs something cheap and cheerful as for site use!

great thanks everyone. so sounds like standard heat shrink works fine ?

i remember the spring on my old vanillas being fully wrapped so cant be too much of a problem with it binding in the spring.

do they compress fully anyway when fork does? i could imagine they don’t

    sorry, totally waffly.

mech is 10sp. current cassette is 10sp 11-46t (ie it just copes with 46 with replaced b-tension screw)
want to go 11sp with 11-46 cassette.

since mech copes with 46, can i replace shifter and cassette with 11sp and keep the mech for now?

thanks everyone. sounds like what i’m after, tho i did have a sandisk sansa clip myself i think and it packed up pretty quickly and was hard to navigate, but that may have been bad luck and i probably dropped it…

by which you mean they just said ‘sod it, change the whole thing’?

i don’t think so, not from the way it went. the other garage said “DPF, dunno what, go to fiat”, fiat said ” pump in the reservoir is knackered”

seemed pretty clear that their system told them specifically what it was.

yes my van is blue, (wtf? how did you know : ) )

    light is orange for now

    thanks everyone. i’m in france…

i only take it to fiat because the slightly more generic code readers that non-fiat garages have, have not been able to read the fault in enough depth to know what actually needs done in the past.

eg last time the peugeot garage, with their pro level bosch machine, could tell me there was a problem with the particulate filter, but not what needed changed. only at fiat garage could they tell me it was the pump in the Celine (in english? – the liquid which gets burned to clean the filter) tank which was knackered.

but yes on relflection i think i’ll take it to a place i trust for most stuff, and see what their reader says.

an 11sp to run with a 10 speed shifter (assuming actuation ratio works?), cause it’ll have better clearance?

thanks everyone. i’ll give it a go like that then.

    sounds about right yes.

want to get a sinrace 11-42 doc as you used

    single07
    Free Member

so you’re saying an SS = short cage kust about coped with 11-42 yes?
so medium cage shouldn’t be a problem for chain length. i guess not surprising as songle ring front.

and as for clearance, might be worth a shot with b screw right in, or possibly swapped for a longer one

    single07

thanks docrobster, but you don’t say if medium or long cage.

would expect long cage to be a problem, but i have a medium.

or perhaps you’re implying that cage length isn’t the issue? only physical clearance in the ‘goat link’ area?

on shimano site it gives the same max and min sizes of biggest cog for both medium and long cage versions of the same derailleur, so not much use…

    specs question:

    it’s a 16µF

    it says
    AC 400V B
    AC450V C

i see one by same manufacturer, and 16µF, which says

    AC 400V A
    AC 450V B
    AC 500V D

    will this be fine?

i see plenty others of right specs but not many with the right configuration of spade connectors. sure i could solder some onto some cables, but i’d prefer it to just have the same.

right it was the capacitor, which was totally easy to access and, as crogthomas said at the start, has a big lump on it (= overheating?)

ill try to find one with the same specs. and jobsagoodun, hopefully.

    never mind. found the capacitor
    duh
    its massive

    so where is/are the capacitor s ?

are they likely to be wrapped on that tape?

    single07

thanks but is there a way to test with a multimeter if a capacitor is faulty, as opposed to checking it’s not still charged?
never understood capacitors, tho the explanations are simple…

    yes

ok great thanks. might get one in that case and it can go on the back as the coarse sand stone round me eats them up.

them get a nicer one for the front : )

    single07

well that’s all quite positive sounding, thanks everyone.

so do i just short the capacitor(s) out to earth?

and is there a way to test which one it is if there are more than one? i kinda suspect there won’t be given the size etc

yes, seems obvious but i never thought of it, they are blocking out a percentage of the light. so things will get dimmer. that’s ok, it’s the tinting i don’t like, turning everything brown or grey or whatever.

so will lenses look clear in colour, on those bolle ones you talk about jonba, or a bit murky at least?

well i’ve ought an offering from a nice fella in Inverness.
4 months i’ve been without a frame so i’m itching for the thing to arrive.

also, has anyone out there run b+ in an offering?
those are the wheels i have at the mo, which might mean the hightower makes more sense…

    I NEED a new bike!
    a new frame actually.
have a collection fo parts waiting for the right frame to turn up. (hightower, if you’re asking, or ripmo, or offering 😉
which of course they aren’t as there is a shortage of new bikes.

it’s doing my nu tin and i’m stuck with walking or running my local trails, which start on my doorstep, just to add to the frustration!

    GRRRR

    thanks stu,
i mean yes, i’m sure i can put them in.
trail will be a little different on the forks from 29, tho just the same as i’m used to, ie same forks and wheels and a similar head angle to my last bike, so just BB will be lower than conceived, tho again, not much lower than my last bike, which was low – fuel ex in b+

still, a non LT might be a better option, especially as i don’t really ‘need’ the longer travel

it better not be a medium. if it is you have to sell it to me. forum rules

yes the reach is shortish, relative to eTT, compared to other newer things, or even contemporay things like cotics, but the 600mm ish top tube on an M seems more important in terms of fit to me.
and seat tube angle shouldn’t be too much of a problem as i’m small and have relatively short legs too.

having only ever ridden one bike with a cane creek shock on a demo day (a spitfire), it nevertheless felt so wildly different /better than the others i rode (including the large hightower) that i could well believe it would transform any bike : )
