Those will be letters Cheeyfeet, so it’s understandable they were incomprehensible to you, some of which combined created words, some of which spelt “peace” and “truth”

    Runs………!

Well the Pentagon managed to lose $2.3 trillion, i.e. it lost track of it and couldn’t account for it!

I’m thinking of organising a June one just outside of Edinburgh.

Thinking of calling it the “Biggar Bike Bash”

We were out in a big group on Tuesday. There are two older couples on another table, and one of them asks the waiter who our lot are making all the noise in the restaurant. The waiter says “It’s the William Hill lot” and one of the ladies says her son works for Hills.

So Dad comes over, and as I know their son, I go over and chat and even tell the Mum what a likeness she has to the son.

Turns out after a while their son isn’t Jarrod in Marketing but Gerrard in security. Well I did have a bottle on wine inside of me and yeah, it was noisy and all.

Ah right – so a “thing” is different to “stuff”. Gotcha.

In your early years you were more into playdough than mechanno or lego.

What degree do you have and what is the job you think you applied for? Just out of interest.

You should try offering to guide people around your local loops who then blast off into the distance. It’s a bit embarrassing when that happens but yes, as per ton, people on STW are faberoonee and on the whole will wait for you to catch up 🙂

Right, I’ll post this but restating that I am not an expert.

There is a grey area when it comes to pubs running poker nights. You need to be very careful about what the game is, and is it in fact a game of 100%skill. Telephone quizzes are another grey area where the questions are so easy it is in fact a “lottery”.

Don’t forget that pub quiz nights are fine, and you may want to speak to a publican who runs these as they should, in theory, know the law.

Here is the 2005 Gambling Act. Sounds like your competition does not currently fall into this remit if it is a game of skill.

I am not up to speed on “games of skill”, just this legislation.

Apparently there’s some horse race on on Saturday so I have to be on call. No idea why – it’s only a horse race. Will prob try and go back and ride the Alcadeisa to Pinar del Rey route that I tried to find via google earth last weekend but ended up getting a tad lost on. Strained my calf muscle at footie on Monday so hopefully that will be cleared up by Sunday.

Cool – found Corkscrew Hill – just near Allaleigh of all places 🙂

I can’t see a Fishtowers but I am guessing it could be the path sort of along the banks of the river?

To try and unhijack this thread, will be looking forward to joining you all on these tracks when I move to Dartington in September!

Are Corkscrew Hill and Fishchowters anywhere near Totnes then just out of interest?

Maybe back to normal, but I am reminded of this Cree quote

“Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money.”

Well today there was a further $1 trillion of funding announced on top of the already announced $2 trillon of funding to get the global economy working again.

Although people may think housing may become affordable and prices may rise, you, your children, and their children are going to be facing some preetty interesting tax rises in the decades to come. So maybe not quite so much money left each month for the mortgage ay? Who knows what’s going to happen, but it isn’t looking too good right now.

Thing is, at least you didn’t title the thread along the lines of “How Stupid Are People”….. 😀

That thread was awesome and the very epitome of ironic.

Actually I feel I have missed out on 18 months of what tyres threads as no one ever seems to discuss West Andalucia (it’s all Lake District/ Stainburn/ Glentress etc isn’t it) so if you want to talk about tyre choice for anywhere between Malaga and say Estepona/ Algeciras this is the thread : )

Yeah – I booked a week off work last week and a hotel in Sierra Nevada a couple of months ago. But then I had a virus and didnt feel I was fit enough to justify the holiday so cancelled.

Roper and I are going to try the big “All Mountain” Sierra de las Nieves route in a few weeks time.

I have discovered the area around Casares and am quite enjoying that and also exploring Sierra de los Barrios which is pretty unchartered XC as far as I am aware. But it’s pretty chilled riding around there.

Hi – are those tracks ridable from a XC perspective would you say? I know there are xc tracks in the same location, (and have the maps in the Bikefax book) but is the DH ridable by a XC HT rider? I was thinking of spending a day there over Easter.

    Si

Ah but you guys are so fast to judge.

It’s like ages ago I went over the boarder and had an esspresso in San Roque. I had no mates at this time. Roper comes along and sees me and he says “What are you reading that rubbish for?” much like you lot.

I say to him well I’d normally buy Singletrack but you can’t get it in Gib, and he’s like “I’m into mountain biking” and we then realise how much have in common and the rest is history.

So it only goes to show you know.

    Mr Barnes

But if you were to read one over a cappucino in a cafe, maybe like me you would realise what a hit with the ladies it was, and it’s a great way of opening a conversation and meeting new people.

Honestly, you should give it a go. I was feeling quite ill a few months back and just bought one copy. Well one thing and another here I am now avidly reading them each week and meeting new people down the cafes here on Saturdays.

Nahh, my reading has been more going along these kind of lines so need something lighter as well for when I am out having a cappucino. Obviously.

For the last few months each week I have been buying Heat Magazine and Hello. Been missing Blighty a bit and I’ve been really getting into the stories and gossip. They are actually a really good read before anyone gets on my case. A really nice way to unwind.

I think it is also a case of they know they can get away with it. People vote em in so we only have ourselves to blame collectively for not calling them to account. At the last election we knew how bad they all were but most got re-elected.

There are a tiny handful of OK ish ones.

I thought that gulley was before Dixons Hollow. There is a pretty steep hollow/gulley that you ride down, and then you have a choice of either the technical gulley climb if you turn right at the bottom, or you have a longer but less technical climb if you ride around heading left at the bottom?

Cheers for the info. For record I use a lot of suncream when out riding and am no sunbather as I normally just burn up.

Yeah – the other thing I liked was that you could do half the red, then the black, then back on the red although they hadn’t finished everything and by the time I go to the freeride area I always got a bit confused with directions.

The old red route is still there with some tasty morsels to either discover or be shown.

Just out of interest, how much singletrack is there now? I think some plans for a huge section got shelved just as I was leaving Yorkshire.

Yeah, but then look at all the great social rides with loads of people happening back in the UK. You can’t win really : )

(Although Roper I have to say does make a most excellent riding partner)

I used to like the old red slalom downhill bit between the trees. Don’t know if you know the bit I mean but that was great in the summer. Dalby now though is so much better in the winter months huh? At least the sandy bits were good training for my sandier routes around the beaches here.
