Either via iTunes (where you can drag files from your PC onto the appropriate apps) or probably more practically via DropBox or one of the many similar free services that provide cloud storage.

That’s shocking. Is it not possible to have a cable that goes from one to the other? Would she have to email everything? How do people use external hard drives? Is this possible?

I am thinking about getting fiancee one. She has a PC (not a mac). How does she get things such as pdfs from the laptop onto an iPad? I have never used one.

    Cheers!

Trekster really should be the curator for the 7 Stanes with his knowledge 🙂

I think Mabie’s red route is really great for blue level riders who are just moving up on to reds. I can appreciate it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it really seems suited to my level of riding.

    Well said Trekster.

There are also more newbies and riders like Simon who find the stuff you describe as “boring” just as exciting as you may have done when you started out

When you are bit shonky on the skills side of things, Mabie’s roller coaster still has the ability to thrill. I nearly came off the singletrack there going a bit too fast 🙂

I rode Mabie’s new berms a good 5 or 6 times today. I do believe that is the first time I have done this whole “sessioning” thing 🙂

I then pushed all the way back up for a blast down without stopping for photos.

I doubt I’d want to revisit this trail at all

I keep going back to Mabie myself, but then when you are local there are loads of combinations of routes including all the natural stuff to ride too.

After saying that, much of it now feels quite naked with all the tree felling.

Hi Lee – Great to say hi to you guys.

I wasn’t looking for new stuff, just riding some of the routes I already know.

These two sets show you some of the natural off piste stuff around

There are loads of combinations, and you can also do a bigger day out by riding off road to New Abbey, and then doing the monument climb, and down a technical descent too.

Potts – yeah, those big lighting rigs can put of a few people off, and I did tell my makeup lady not to keep standing in the middle of the berms, and running up and down them getting me tea in between takes.

    Awesome fun today 🙂

Rode a little off-piste, then did this quite a few times.

Heh – I took some video this morning – I’ll post it up later today. Great to see so many people there today having a blast.

That’s an astoundingly bad video, cheers!

Just for the record it’s not mine!

As for the rollercoaster, blimey, what a fast piece of singletrack! Amazing how we can all have very different impressions from the same trail. Horses for courses I guess.

I know people keep saying it more a case of mind over matter, but at the top I was chatting to two lads. They said that their friend went down a little too fast, his wheel snapped and he ended up going into the trees at the bottom. They said psychologically he lost a huge amount of confidence. Also, it is not smooth, there are lots of ruts. Have a look at the many videos on Youtube and see if you would ride it. There is “The qualifier” just before, which is a very short but very steep rocky descent, built to test if you should try the slab, but some people say that is more scary!

Dalbeattie has a few mini slabs, and also the Terrible Twins, plus a few larger ones as well along the course, some with very thin planks to test you. It’s a great track whatever your level of confidence and ability, and I sometimes wonder if people do not realise just how many features Dalbeattie now has. It also looks like they are building some new black steep northshore too.

Maybe someone has a photo from the top looking down to show how steep it is. I actually do not think it is that steep, it is more a case of the fact that it is also quite high, so you can start skidding, and also the ruts of course.

    Heh – and then some.

It is just so annoying as there are still a few step downs and rooty bits I don’t yet ride but feel I could. Maybe some other time. But I still feel a sense of achievement today.

A one handed video of the new bits – lots of jumps!

No idea really about good times as I just take my time, take photos, and stop for food and to enjoy the views. There are also lots of more natural secret trails in Mabie so you can spend loads of time riding around, mixing and matching.

I have to say it is intriguing what will happen when there is a massive downpour.

Anyway, I may well ride here this weekend as the one flippin weekend I have a car and want to go to Kirroughtree I discover there’s a race on.

Well folks, it’s now open today! Can’t believe I missed it by a day.

Some major slab action going on at Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree too. Dalbeattie has what, the skills loop slab, the Stane slab, the qualifier, the Slab, the terrible twins, and rock n roll!

That’s great. I can’t ever see myself getting up that climb!

The guys at the bike shop are focussing on internet sales now I think. There is talk about finding a new cafe owner in the next few months – let’s hope so, and maybe they will put a few more seats in where the bike shop was maybe?

My folks are moving back into Dumfries this weekend which means Mabie is now in riding distance for me so maybe see you there : ) (I don’t have a car).

Great video Pook and those look like fantastic trails to me with some great views.

Um – I can’t actually see myself riding these even when they are open! (That is not false modesty – there is a chicken run of sorts running down the centre so you do not have to ride the walls).

As for me not riding them, I guess many of you may think I may have done but these are actually very near a fireroad so you can just pop down without a bike to have a look.

In fact, it upsets me when people ride unfinished stuff as it is so disrespectful to the builders and also puts the dates back as things need to be repaired. There were some tyre tracks going around the netting to say it wasn’t open, and that cheesed me off but hey ho. I am a local person and this is my home trail centre.

Rudedog – you may want to check with the rangers as there could still be diversions at both those trails – I don’t know what is still ion place though. I think most of Ae is open and you should of course add in The Shredder even if you are both XC riders.

Of course the other thing about Mabie is that there are one heck of a lot of natural trails to ride there too (not walkers paths) but these need a little local knowledge.

They should be open maybe in the next week or so but the date keeps slipping.

As an international man of mystery (currently unwaged) I am lucky enough to choose when I ride! Mabie was fast and dusty today

These berms are part 2 of Descender Bender, the bit after the first fireroad crossing but before the second fire road crossing. Today the third part was also closed, down to the stream crossing, but not too sure if any work is happening on that part too.

Well I am a mountain biker but I love to visit ancient and sacred sites and that is terrible. My motto is “leave no trace” 🙂

I normally take between 2.5 and 3 hours, depending on photo and food stops. But I guess you are looking for people who are interested in timing their laps yeah?

My legs always seem to go half way, just after the red bail out, and then they pick up again on that lovely speedy bit of red. After saying that I have to walk up the final black climb – it’s a killer!

Great to ride some of the repaired bits on the second half of the red. They’ve done a great job there. That part after the pump track loopy thingy bit is just great.

What about those bikes with the massive front tyres we’ve been seeing? Could they get you down it in one piece? Maybe one of those with 29 inch wheels?

    Ouch.

Where does he go wrong? There looks like there is a massive stone at the bottom that he is trying to avoid? Or can that be ridden over.

He ahhhhhhhh just makes you know it’s going to end badly.

I am frankly embarrassed to be tainted by association of happening to ride an MTB with the people going “ooh it’s steeper than it looks”

Me too – you are 100% spot on there. I mean look at how lame these riders are. You and I would just storm down these first time, no stopping to think about it ay? 😀

There really are some whinging mincers on STW ay? Not like you or me! 😀

I am just looking at it on youtube. Of course with the angles shown it looks like nothing, just as Dalbeattie’s slab can. Are there any photos showing it from the top?
