Well yes of course it is an artistic photo – it was just a theoretical question!

I should have guessed that people here would focus on the lady and not the fact that you would have an amazing view of our beautiful planet. Oh well.

Your visual system is not a direct representation of what is out there. It compensates and alters the size when the moon has something to be contrasted against.

Yeah – lets quash all these conspiracy theories. We know there were hijackers on the plane because according to ABC News and the Associated Press, the passport of hijacker Satam Al Suqami was found a few blocks from the WTC. They should like you know, build cycle helmets out of whatever that passport was made of 🙂

I can still play all three CDs from the very first Renaissance compilation in my car! It kicks off with not one, not two, but three different mixes of Leftfield's Life. Awesome.

Just out of curiosity, is there actually a need to describe a bike as a rigid hardtail? Doesn't the word rigid imply that there is no front or back suspension? So a bike is either rigid, a HT or a full suss? I assume there are no bikes that have suspension at the back and nothing on the front?

All three building fell at near free fall speed. So we are now suspending belief in physics are we?

Has anyone owned up to the controlled demolition of the twin towers yet or are we still supposed to believe the collapse was caused due to the planes hitting them?

John Kerry has admitted it, in terms of WTC 7

Got the photos from Ed. Here's my off – the bike stayed put as I went over and then tumbling down that hillside. Luckily the only damage was to my sarnies. Better a crushed sarnie than a crushed vertebrae 😀

Scotland doesn't even start till Callander.

But that neatly ignores the fact that Dumfries is home to Robert Burns! Not Scottish enough for you??? 😀

Ride Kirroughtree like the wind my friend (OP), and then ride Drumlanrig where your wife can visit the castle at the same time. Oh, and this was where the bicycle was invented, but I can't see how that can be of any interest to anyone here 😀

Well I know nothing about bikes or Hamptshire but just thought I'd say hello, welcome to the forum and I am sure you will soon be enjoying lots of great bike rides 🙂

If your wife can drive she may enjoy Wigtown which is one of Scotland's book towns. There is also kirkcudbright with all its art galleries and things too if she needed somewhere to go for a few hours while you ride Kirroughtree. If you like XC then Kirroughtree is fantastic.

Here are photos from the Ullswater loop – not going all the way around, but starting in the north, and then going down the eastern side. That's where there is some cracking singletrack, much not photgraphed. Then there is a bit of a hike up a path, and down into a valley for the descent, after having taken in some excellent views.

    Hi folks

I was thinking about all of this last night and it now looks as if I will need to go down to London for the 24th and stay over the weekend. I will then be down in Devon the next weekend and not too sure where I will be after that!

So hang fire for now and let's see if I can get my act together for early or mid October (although I may need a lift as I could have no car by then).

I think I see just as much dogma in science as there is in religion (speaking as a shamanic Taoist 😀 )

Well yes but the main view is the one behind them. They could have easily designed a studio without a view from a window!!!! That show with Chris Evans was in a lock was it not? That was a nice house. 😀

Well I think I may have seen a few minutes of The One Show a long time ago, but thought I would watch a little but yesterday as I had half an hour or so to kill. I think the word is cringeworthy. Maybe I am not the target market, but yes, it made me cringe with embarrassment and I didn't really like the design of the set which was more like that of a politics show, maybe because of Parliament in the background. The purple motif also reminded me of mid-90s adverts, maybe for loans or something like that.

Yeah. I think that given that my legs were like jelly towards the end, there seemed to be one heck of a lot of climbing on that very final black climb, for a wee little descent to the car park! Just as you think you are about to descent there's another bit of climb!

I really wouldn't want to critique that part as i am not a jumper. I know what you mean though as you don't expect it but then I always like a little variety. Did you bump into alcopop then?

I used Michel Thomas for Spanish and have done so again for Portuguese. However, with Michel Thomas, it is excellent for learning the structure of the language but it should then be combined with a book of some sort, e.g. Hugo in 3 Months (which is a book and CD based course.). I have just done Michel Thomas beginners and advanced, and am now using a Portuguese Verbs book. Plus of course my girlfriend is Brazilian so I am using the book then she goes over pronunciation and helps me practice.

With Michael Thomas he teaches the Spanish in quite a heavy German accent. In Portuguese, they use the same structure but have a Portuguese speaker repeat every phrase so you learn it properly (although Brazilian can be different in places).

I do not think your neighbours are being stupid, nor are they "stating the obvious." It is how British people start up a conversation, they are being friendly and although I don't know them I feel I would be happy having them as neighbours. I would prefer them to the two lycra lads in the car next to me at Drumlanrig who had chest straps and full body lycra outfits and who never said hello to me at all, I guess as they were maybe getting in the zone for their super fast XC ride.

I find the whole ethics thing interesting. From the lasses point of view, she is saying she thought it terrible that he was playing away from home, but that it is not ethical to do the dirty deed actually in the marital home. I would not want to judge matters one way or another, but it's interesting getting a glimpse into others worlds and their thinking and justifications.

WTF – well basically I barely have enough skillz to get me round in the dry but yeah, I can imagine it being just as good in the wet if that is your bag.

Yeah – Alcopop – their chocolate cake does make up for it a bit – very very good : )

Heh – I know you think this is me mouthing off but it comes from people working at the Dumfries unemployment office. Dumfries I think could be the only council where they ask if you have a family member working for them on their job applications.

I don't think I have ever heard her. You do realise there are other radio stations out there don't you? 😀

Well if the job is based in Dumfries you won't even get a sniffter of a job interview unless you are either a freemason or have a member of your family already working for the council.

I've had more than my fair share of comments on my biking photos, so any compliments I am taking and going with you know?

Oh and my ex was a Paraguayan tantric yoga teacher, but hey ho, mustn't grumble.

Actually, I've just been having a think and I now feel like a "proper" mountain biker, like you see in the magazines. I've never done a killer loop before, never thinking I would make it round one, and you get this huge sense of achievement having done it, especially as I was totally out of condition a month ago.

Cheers Trekster – you know me, one lap of the Mabie red is normally more than enough but my legs got me round! It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.
