I buy my domains from http://www.fasthosts.co.uk. On wordpress, which I also use, you will end up with a url such as badgerbater.wordpress.com. On fastshosts, what you do is simply redirect the url to this url, and bob’s your uncle.

What is the website for? On wordpress, you can set up a few permanent pages as well as use it as a blog.

I would set up a test wordpress site first and play around with all the options on that first. If you want in the future, wordpress blogs can be adapted by professionals to something more suited to the website’s needs.

Have a look at http://www.transitionconsciousness.org (I currently have a cycling article there so not totally off topic).

Some great football today and here in Brazil there is a massive game tonight Santos vs Corinthians in the Copa Libadores (South America Champions League) :-)

I am in São Paulo and just watched the Germany Portugal game whilst on the main screen we had Brazil vs Argentina (a friendly but not so friendly!). It was Argentina 4 Brazil 3, and I have to say Messi scored some stunning goals.

I’m not so hopeful about England’s chances.

At least tomorrow here in Brazil there is Brazil vs Argentina (a friendly) and everyone is looking forward to the Neymar vs Messi aspect. Neymar is on fire at Santos, and also there will be Santos vs Corinthians in the South American cup too to watch during the Euros.

But hey! Beckham will be at the Olympics for team GB :D

I did try and few proper cyclists but all they seemed to be talking about was plugging products.

    @rocketdog is class of course!

I am following loads of Brazilian groups and people to help me improve my Portuguese, but that wont be so much use to you I guess!

Thanks agin for the comments. It’s interesting as I have been finding quite a few sites which discuss the issue. It seems that the Respiro masks are the best biking ones, but that they do not necessarily catch everything. It is not a clear-cut thing, and it would be great to see more decent research on this. Bottom line is that they do seem to work to some extent, but that medical and industrial filters work best, although maybe just for walking and not biking.

I guess the question is which is the best type of mask in terms of quality and comfort? Do they differ much? Which is the best?

Thanks for your replies, and also for that photo which I will use.

If anyone else wants to jot down some thoughts, it would be great.

Stoner – that photo was taken before the flotilla though. What gives?

So who of you were out celebrating on your bikes then?

As (somewhat soggy) sandwiches and trifles were being polished off at 10,000 street parties from Devon to Dalbeattie, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh made their entrance at 2pm, when they were greeted by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall at Chelsea Pier.

I’ve found 1 photo of the actual flag!

    Any ideas?

    It’s the royal barge Gloriana.

It might not be that one you know? On the flotilla today, there were the country flags and then that one. The flag in the photo is not the one I saw on one of the main boats.

Much better write a virus than bomb the f*** out of them.

Except the irony seems to be that Fukushima was struggling to shut down due to technical issues, which indicates that the worm also struck there, and now the US is being hit with the radiation fallout from Japan.

Unfortunately yes. It is amazing the mentality to cyclists here but I don’t want to sound too judgemental. That is why something like this tv news item on the equivalent of Sky News may not seem like much in the UK, but in Brazil it is very welcome as the country has suffered a lot due to very poor education, and so news items like this really help to educate people. There are also free adult bike lessons this weekend as well which is a great initiative.

Drumlanrig is fantastic and I really like what they have now done with updating some of the sections in the second half of the red. Really good work done there.

Ahhh… I’ve read the thread now…thing is I’m banning banning banning, so it’s right that Ralli is banned.

I’m not easily shocked, but this is shocking. Down with this sort of thing!

Very nice – it has a hint of “Indica” about it.

Here’s a philosophical question. Would it be possible to ban bannings?

All I can say is that if a video like this means less grumpy riding Gods of STW on it, then all the more space for people like me who will be riding it and then glowing with more radiation than any decommissioned nuclear power station at the bottom. That looks amazing, an absolute blast and something that someone like me could potential have a go at. :D

It’s funny. No idea if this is a troll or not, but when I was 8 I had a drop handlebar Raleigh Olympus. There was a little wood where we lived with a jump, but I could never ride it. I always wanted something like a Grifter so I could really play in these woods.

So yeah, CX biking, doesn’t seem simpler to me. Maybe a basic bike with less gears and less to go wrong is simpler, and that’s fine.

But CX biking, maybe that is more sophisticated and far more limiting! :D

I’ve just bought an iPad 2 for my fiancee from Tescos who are currently selling them with £70 off, so the 16gig basic one is currently £329.

I though went for the 3G as wifi is nowhere near as extensive in Brazil.

    Cheers for all the advice.

The other thing is that it will be used in São Paulo where maybe there is less wifi when out and about but that is changing. I may well change it for a 3G on Wednesday as my fiancee thinks that that is the one she wants.

She had her heart set on an iPad so other models were not really an option and at least I got a decent discount.

That is the question. The various web pages I have seen have said that you can not tether an Ipad to a Blackberry. Is this possible? Anyone done it?

Descender bender has been resurfaced and follows the old one. Of course you can miss out the sections and do an off-piste ultra slippy old school downhill should you so wish, which gets interesting in the wet, and of course you can find other ways to descend too, in a local stylee, not so far from the madding crowds.

Well it will be used for business rather than a home device. In São Paulo it is safer to carry around something smaller than a heavy laptop for business meetings where the main requirement is to sit with clients and run through presentations, as opposed to it being a mainly recreational device. Also internet and email when out and about.

My own solution for myself was that I bought a small Lenovo laptop but with an 11″ screen. It was in a sale a few weeks ago in Currys. It is more powerful than a netbook but I do not need chunky applications, just a few business ones – powerpoint, email, net, and word, and maybe load up photos.

Also, I am open to other makes, but I don’t think this is an option!

I may well investigate wifi now that I will be living there full time. I am sure I will make a lot of use of the wifi and iPad if we had that as I work at home a lot.

We don’t have wifi at home.

Does the iPad have Bluetooth for transferring files?

    simonralli2

That would be better I think. The guy in Curreys said all you need to do is buy their adaptor, but I found him totally unconvincing as an expert who could understand my requirements.

I can’t stand iTunes, it has to be one of the worst pieces of software ever.

She will mainly be transferring PDF files, as she wants it to be able to do presentations. I think eventually she may get a MacBook, but for now at work she uses Microsoft.

I should also add that it will be used in Brazil, where the internet is not reliable and also wifi is much less common, although its getting better. But you do not have BT Openzone etc.
