Cheers for those photos. I would have thought that at least a good few people would have ridden Ae at the weekend. How cold was it in the dark? Mabie was awesome but it was definitely fun because of the sun pretty much all the way around. The low light in the woods created some amazing scenes.

I had thought about Ae but I thought it may be a bit too sketchy in places for me.

I have been out for a ride this morning in Dumfries in freezing fog – brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Quick ride report from yesterday. Mabie is seriously fast!

Who else rode either Mabie, Drum, Dalbeattie, Ae or Kirrie today?

I was out riding this morning and there is fairly thick and freezing fog and it is way colder than yesterday obviously. But yes, all ridable (with caution in just one or two places).

Edit – just seen that this was actually posted yesterday – doh!

Yeah – am in Dumfries. I love Inners but to be honest you have to ride past all these signs that say “Skids are for Kids” and Cannon Bank is so darn steep you have to really brake otherwise you’ll get accidental air and then you end up skidding and it’s all very embarrassing really. I am more of an Ae Shredder man myself 😀

Thanks for the photo Stoo – way more snow than over here in the west!

Craig – dang – sorry I missed you. I just saw three others out riding, but had a good chat and some coffee back in the cafe with a few others.

Glyn – top one. That was my second choice, but if I have my car back from the garage for next weekend I’ll probably ride up there again. I would have ridden at Kirroughtree, but I thought I may freeze up half way round, and I was worried about the conditions on the road, so didn’t want to risk it.

I think a long time ago one of them said they would do it but in an ironic or post modern or something-or-other way.

No probs – I had to do the little shortcut at the top of the Scorpion (which I walked) as my legs were just didn’t have much energy today. Made it round all the rest though amazingly 🙂

Oh and this is the second photo thread of mine where people are moaning about me not wearing gloves. I can assure you that I was wearing the biggest and thickest O Neil snowboard gloves possible, but they are so thick and big you have to take them off to be able to operate a camera!

Supercyril – wow you must have been out early. It took me ages to get the ice from off both the inside and outside of my car, but I am sure your tracks helped me find the right line at times. Yeah – Mabie is well sheltered mostly so it made for a great ride. I had a coffee in the Shed afterwards, and they had their log fire burner going so I could toast my toes 😀

Paul – I may be able to manage a ride on the Saturday but wont be free on the Sunday. I am no fan of ice, but it was far less sketchy than I was expecting and all of it was pretty rideable. I made it up quite a few short and sharp steep climbs where I was expecting to lose traction, and yeah, it really was riding fast, although I was seriously cautious in places obviously.

Just for the record I think it is terrible that people who have paid money have been treated, allegedly, unfairly, and been kept waiting.

After having said that, could someone explain what Mint Sauce is, and why it has such a following that grown adults are keen to have a keyring.

Is it a comic, or was it a strip that was in another comic? Are there any examples on line? Just curious really. I am sure I remember maybe years ago someone posting a mint sauce single picture, which I didn’t get, but that’s about as far as my knowledge goes.

I hope everyone gets everything sorted though.

Certainly is – I would not recommend anyone travel to ride it, but as a little local loop for when it is too cold for much more than an hour’s riding (including 10 mins to get there by bike), there are some cracking little sections of rooty singletrack. I like to think of it as a very mini Drumlanrig 🙂

A few more pics in this thread:

I was probably going to hit Mabie – I haven’t really decided where and when to ride, but then Drumlanrig could be a real cracker too.

This was Dumfries on Wednesday. Ae, Mabie, Dalbeattie, and Kirroughtree will be rideable, as will Drumlanrig.

Just a smidge of snow really, and even less where there is shelter.

It’s a man made trail, they are always going to have plenty of grip and be fast rolling.

So speaks a chap who has not ridden Drumlanrig in winter! (Maybe!)

We have only had a dusting of snow in Dumfries and Galloway so people should be fine for Ae, Mabie, Drumlanrig, Dalbeattie, Kirroughtree and the much forgotten Glen Trool 🙂

Ah amazing! I was out yesterday but it was the wind that was really getting to me. I guess much of Kirroughtree is quite sheltered, apart from McMoab. Sounds like a great ride.

Here’s a photo without snow. Not too sure if the “jumps” show up that well though.

Well maybe it is my photo. I can assure you it is an excellent facility really for kids who are just learning, as opposed to anything majorly hardcore. The track is only a few hundred metres in length, but there are plenty of doubles (not too sure of the terminology) and a couple of places you can jump. Trekster here was involved in the efforts to get the facility funded and built by the local council. So yeah, while it is very small, it is an excellent little place for maybe 8 – 15 year olds (and bigger kids too 😀 )

Everything onto Flickr, and then some rather obvious sets and groups. And for the very special photos, I have just had a load printed out into a book that I spent quite a long time designing on Blurb. £75 but it is something like 13″ x 19″ ish maybe (I forget) and there are many different layouts per page, from single photos to little collections.

Guys it was -2 and I can assure you my hands get seriously cold even when it is not even freezing.

The gloves I was wearing were so big I had to whip them off to set the self timer and press the button. I am man enough not to have to wear the gloves for like, 20 seconds for the photos! 😀

Underneath my combats I had M&S thermal long johns, and I had a thermal top under a thermal jacket under that quite thick cagoule!!!!

Tito la Rosa is one of Peru’s most famous musicians. Absolutely beautiful spiritual music, in quite a few different styles and he has recorded albums with many different musicians. I do not think he is that well known outside of Peru, apart from people like myself who are into that kind of thing. I really feel he should have far more recognition than he has.

You seemed to be going down a lot faster in those conditions than I went down in normal conditions! I really must try and motivate myself to get out to Mabie tomorrow. That was a great little vid and I would have liked to have seen more of the descent.

I think the only decent quote about quantum physics is that if you think you have understood it you obviously don’t 🙂 Good luck. And remember there are many different interpretations of what the mathematics of quantum physics is tellings us about the underlying ultimate ground of reality 😯

I think the best quote in all these sorry sagas was from the Iceland President who said that the reason Iceland is now better off than Ireland is because Iceland let the banks fail. Of course Iceland were then declared a terrorist state by the UK, but that’s a small price worth paying surely? 😀

I live in Dumfries and we have only had a slight sprinkling of snow – more of a heavy frost – nothing really. Obviously the weather could change, but don’t forget Drumlanrig and Ae if you have to miss off the Eastern Stanes.
