I think that we are all very lucky living in the disc brake era, we can have any colour rims we want and not wear through the finish with ‘orrible rim brakes. I was gutted the first time I took my ‘hard surfaced’ MA40s out in the rain in 1987, they always looked cr@p after that.

I dunnu DL, I’ve spenta ages polishing the braking surface on my Arayas.

Your basically after a 4″ frame without the XC race angles then?

yes… some good ideas above, shame about the Blur 4X availability.

The Alpine rides like a DH bike down… and a 5 when going up… I really think I’ve finally found a bike to do all that I ride. Its setup with DH Bars, short stem, low stack height.

    That Chameleon is amazing !

I_ache, the warranty is to 140mm only.. 520 (I think) Axle to crown.
Biffer, sorry forgot to add, the 140 Fox I’ve put on is the 09 with bolt through.

Have the 08 meta.. its fantastic.. Stick with a 140mm Fork though, 160 is too much. Suprising how well it climbs technical ascents, can really keep the power down better than my old Blur LT… which shocked me. Downhill its a real blast.. bottomless travel feeling is true. The Maxle rear end is a nice addition if your doing a lot of rocky stuff, to keep that cheep do what I did, dont buy the £50 maxle drop outs. Just use the additional drop outs that come with the Meta and stick a nut on the end of the Maxle.. OK takes 2 secs to undo the nut, not a “proper” Maxle but you save £50 and get a stiffer rear end.
BTW, there prices compared to many many other brands are still really good this year. Saw a Meta 6 WITH Joplin post advertised at £1145 the other day.

Putting 160mm on a 5″ trail bike, that is a frame designed for a 5″ fork is a big mistake. I put 160mm Talas on my Meta 5… what most people assume, is you can “just stick um at 160 for the downs” BUT, what I missed – and most other people do – is the degree of control you LOOSE by weighting your self further back with the 160 fork. You need weight up front to descend as much as climb. I never rode the Meta at 160 once I’d discovered getting some weight back over the front. Now I’ve changed the 160 to a 09 Float 140mm and its awsome.
Stick with the Fork that the frame is designed around.
