Well, I may help from experience. I’ve got a Alpine 160 and I’ve got both a DHX3 and RP23 shocks for it. I prefer the ride of the RP23 for Peak type rides than the DHX. If I’m off to Wharncliffe for a day then I put the coil shock on thats better for lumpier stuff.
Strangly… I’ve found the air shock more linear with a plusher feel than the DHX 3 has. Maybe thats as the DHX3 has propedal set on all the time whereas the RP23 I clack flick it on or off.

BTW, I picked up the DHX3 for £100 and bought the Alpine with the RP23 (which is big can type btw)

I’ve got some Kyle knee and Evo elbows, stopped me getting hurt on sunday in the Peak. I still prefer the Kyle knee ones over Evo knee. They are tighter fitting than full length pads but for some reason you dont feel the heat too much when there on just your knees.
I’ve also got a set of Dianese still offer better protection.

A lot depends on how you like to run. according to the charts I should be running a Blue, However, after a day at Wharncliffe, running it with Full pre-load, I find I’d be better off with the Green 175-210 with no pre-load… I prefer a firmer fork anyway.

The Govt are desparately trying to stop this happening in the public sector, but it is inevitable unfortunately.

your right, I think, when you look into yesterdays budget, thats just about to happen. Those people who have been smug in there public sector jobs for the last six months better watch out !

    simonm
    Free Member

it came from the states via ebay… its certainly a 215 thats on there, the stroke also looks more like a 2.5″ one aswell if you measure the RP23 from can to the end of the shaft before the eyelet…

what worries me about these wheels are why are they so much lower cost, given the weight, than the competition ? Is it just Spesh making moves on the wheel market ? Or are they good on paper….poor over a year type product ? also-given that not many people have run these for very long.

Mine is built up to 33.2lbs at moment with 36 Vans, RP23. Build is XT, X9, Carbon DH bars, DSR, V light Ti spindle flats, Hope Hoop 5.1s and a big old pair of Formula Mega 200 discs.

The frame weighs 3500g without shock, RP23 is 213, a Van R is 470 with steel spring.

Intrestingly ganic, my other bike is a meta 5, 08, I kept it but made it lighter for trail centre days – 28lb.

Here is mine. Just switched the Talas for some 36 vanilas which I prefer.
Its about 32.5lbs at moment, slightly more when I put Van R coil shock on with Ti Spring. Also got matching tyres now, dumped the spesh.
Ive got a second wheel set for DH days setup with a couple of big sticky High rollers. great all rounder.

I used to be a VPP / fancy suspension advocate, had FSR XC, Blur LT, VPFree – more recently, as shocks have better platform, I’ve gone for all single pivots – Meta 55 and Orange Alpine… I’m prefering the ride.

Cheeky is right, slab is harder than the roll/drop on the descent line.. which is mucho fun btw.
I like the jump in the trail after the northshore section, just fun, nothing hard or to big..

its the rocky bit after that picture (where the photographer is stood) that is tough.
