Great call, noticed the signs on way home last night. Mega Skive going down.
I’m riding in from Sheffield, aim for Whinestone Lee Torr. Forecast is great with a few showers later in the PM.

Rob, we need to do the same. What are you thinking ? Is Trailgator any good ?

Nope. Its the Big F*off one to the side of the bombhole into a bigger lower one.

Duane, I’m not sure the landing is still there ???

This is sad. Could have been anyone of us who ride through there regularly.

Podge your right. Everyone drives/rides way to fast through Bamford, not that I know that’s contributory to this accident. But as an aside, I agree.

The Isla Bikes looks really nice, although my 4 Yo who is ISLA, maybe jelous !
Just think with the bits I’ve got I can build a pretty nice steel hardtail which will be comfy.

    Wow, lots to take in.

Thanks LMT but I’m probably going to get a Steel frame…I think. Then I can have a play on it as well as I have no HT. The Soul really catches my eye as I always wanted a Cotic myself.

many many thanks for all the input.

Scanning the garage, I’ve got some Avid BB7s, Bars, stems, nice SDG Edgeflex seat, spare 26″ roval wheels, and some road rat 700cc wheels. Deore chainset…

I may as well get a nice light frame / fork combo new for £500 and it will build a light Hardtail.

Thanks for the tips. True, its got to be light. And thats the issue with complete new builds, A Spesh Rocker hopper is 32lbs ! who would ride that.
    I maybe interested then Tony. ALthought I’ve just eyeballed a pipedream 853 that’s a bit Tasty ;-)

Anyone think 29er is the way to go though ? smoother roller and more stable I’d think for this kind of riding ideal.

hehe, thanks for the replies. I dare not venture to Mumsnet !

Good tip on the Seat Tony. Does your Mrs use the Weeride ? I’ve got a rear mounted Hammax already for one child, but the mrs is going to have to ride with the other so weighing up which will be easier. Rear or Mid for a novice rider.

No worries. I’m not putting my point across well.

All I’m trying to say is through a little planning built trails can be interesting.

No Shep, I no longer have time due to family and work commitments but I believe I have served my local trail building duties well.
I dug once a weekend for two years at Wharncliffe. Plus my Company dontated £2000 to the trail bulding at Wharncliffe.

Due to not having time now to help dig, my company continues to donate to trail building in Sheffield by Sponsoring the pro prize for the Steel City Downhill race.

Are you one of the diggers ? I know what hard work man handling barrows is for hours and hours so Can understand peoples animosity when shock horror a view of a non digger is aired ;-)

why not ? Its my exact point. A straight trail is as dull to a walker as it is to a rider.
A great example of an interesting footpath, if you know the area, is part of the parth around Damflask that STW built. It curves, has elevation changes, reveals, small bridges, keeps interesting whilst ensuring access to all users (not bikes in this case).
The point being, some real thought has been put into it rather than hey quick, lets fix that quagmire.

Yeh, title was a bit OTT Henry but my point is as I made on FB.

Its just, we made a mess of Wharncliffe trail building in the past. We were inexperienced and rushed into “having a go” at trail building.

Now years later looking back, I think much much more can be achieved, even with fixes like you have undertaken (and I know how much effort barrowing is !) If more thought and planning can be made up front. IMBA Trail solutions has some great examples of interesting and non interesting trails, once given an opportunity to work on a Bridleway, it can be made more interesting to ride AND satisfy local requirements. I have friend who went to work up in Nevis range for FE and they managed to create some great multi use paths. I’m trying to get some pics of the work they achieved as possible inspiration for what can be done.
Your right I need to ride whats been done, however the picture posted shows a pretty straight mundane looking line next to some previous curves and came across as triumphantly straightening a track.

    I know… what an opportunity.

Its a fair effort to get rid of a shit fest.
I just think trail design can be more inspired than straight lines. With a bit of thinking you can tick the trail design guidelines, and make the path interesting and inviting to all users.
Even the IMBA guide for building trails talks about making a trail inviting by elevation and direction change.

I’m just building a 160mm bike to complement the TRc for similar but opposite reasons. :-)

I assume the whole BOS thing is a sore subject then? What are you running now? Another very nice build!

I went back to 140mm Revs and RP23. Actually, comparing the VIPR to RP23, I actually preferred the VIPR…cliché but it didn’t use the travel in the same way RP23 does. The VIPR was very fit and forget in terms of service and setup… I was just so pissed about the Forks I spat my dummy out !

mikewsmith – try putting the measuring device down and riding the damm thing.

Mike, guess what. Checking these things are important. First ride last night and I was twatting pedals on every rock on flat ground.

Turns out my EG frame has been built wrongly, and the BB is 20mm to low…

so worth checking your bike before you go out and fling yourself down a rocky hill.

    pmsl Binners spot on.

I also have a theory that if parents do not get pretty inebriated on a Wednesday night, they would murder the whole Family by Thursday. This gets reset again on Friday nights.
