Quote a few 29ers at this years STW Weekender, maybe 10%, last year it was one bike.
I really cant ride / get on with HT’s, until I got a 29er HT, which I do quite like. As above, its just a “different” bike. On my local trails I find its worse on the twisty between rocks stuff but quite fast on the other 90% of the trail inbetween.

Anyone read the Wade Simmons article with him riding the North Shore on a Rocky Mountain Altitude ?

lot of us hitting 40 this year, for my 40th excuse trip, I started planning with Alps trip.. that failed.. then Fort Bill trip.. also failed.. so last weekend I did the STW Weekender, the uplift at AE / Ride at Mabie.. had a cracker of a long weekend 😉

The guy in the states was doing rings and crank arms, he was selling XTR cranks on Ebay at one point that were ceramic coated.

Wanted to breathe some like into my XTR crankset, all the mechanics are good, its just a bit worn looking.

yes it was…. 40th Birthday treat for myself.

What an Epic weekender.. loved it.. bettered my DH time by almost 20 seconds this year.. lost the will to live and do 3 laps in the XC, so went home after 2 !

A massive thanks going out to everyone who helped out my mate dave, and looked after his dog all weekend, after he had a meeting with the rock in the DH Race… only 6 weeks off the bike m8.. get better soon.

I love minions on the front.. my only wish would be that they had a larger volume like more modern Ardents or Adavantiage.

isnt it “usually”, The year you are… 18, 40 etc ? so even if you turned 40 on 1st Jan this 2011 you would be vets this year…

Im 40 in August.. not sure what I want to be shown as.. slowest Vet or slowest Over 18 !

It just strikes me that theives are actually pretty clever at spotted good new opportunities for easy gains.. remember when memory in PCs was “worth more then its weight in gold”.. there was a spate of house / office burglaries where pc memory was taken.

In the last five years there has been a large expansion of MTB riding, especially now more than ever more and more expensive bikes are being ridden around… if I was so inclined (and about 2’6″ taller) it seams like easy pickings.
What other £1.5 to £6k item do people carry around with them ? Next most expensive object is Cash, or a watch…

Think next time I’ll just turn around and go the other way.

BTW, just in case it becomes real… this was at the top of the Porter Clough climb just as you get on to Tarmac. a spot that I’m sure many people know that a lot of bikes pass.

I guess the shorter ones help if your BB is low and your often clipping rocks… you will miss ones that are 5mm higher !

Last year on ST4 with Minion rear, Ardent front and Revs fork. Felt I wanted a bit more travel here and there but was pretty good for XC.. that said it was still 30lbs for various reasons.

This year I dont have the ST4.. have Nomad C, so thats what I’m going to ride. Have a Reverb post, Front Tyre – Ardent LUST (if its dry), Minion if wetter, rear crossmark LUST. Has lyrics on at present but toying with idea of sticking 150mm revs on to bring it more XCey as I still think its all about the XC if you want a good overall result.
