Bwd, that’s the rider I wld have expected to see but, they weren’t, guy on a very old turner 5 spot….and even a guy on an old hardtail(what a fool for riding that in the Peak !)

The whole right to footpaths has worked well in scotland hasn’t it ? Not heard of walkers up in arms across scotland demanding repeal of the laws.

I think legally opening up the paths, especially in honey pots like the Peak, would help to dissovle the concentration of bikes you see on the bridleways, making fp and bw use to all more pleasant.

how can I be predictable to you when you don’t know me ? or do you mean the subject matter ?

Come on, given the choice would you like to be allowed, legally, to a) ride footpaths or b) not ride footpaths ?

There is such lethargy within our sport to tackle this subject head on, the previous 3 replies to this thread highlight this.

Heh, thanks nana. That’s a fair point, I’ve not ridden a HT as much as fs to give a fair comparison.
I do quite like it on my local trails, it appears to get the job done quicker for my hour and half nighjt rides….I just think there a poor choice for the Peak

to be fair, the fork is well out of its depth up there, its a Manitou minute , and the brakes aren’t the best, if I changed those I would have enjoyed it a little bit more on the rocky descents.

Pmsl, took waaaaay longer than I thought before somesaid “you should learn to ride better“

Right, I’m going to join the luddites and diitch my FS for A HT, then my colour tv for a b&w one, chuck the microwave and central heating out and sell the car…as youi don’t actually need those things…

Dougal, Its our customers who make the boxes, we just build conveyors that are used in the manufacture.

There is a set of design standards, TAPPI standards or FEFCO.. not sure if the CRC box is one of those as its a newer style than your regular brown box !

I’ll take that dinner party offer, owt for a free meal.

Two box sizes compressed to fit any product = Decreased overheads

I work in the box industry, far cheeper to purchase two fixed sizes as its few setups, and longer runs, for the machines making the boxes. In fact were working in one of the factories that makes CRCs boxes.. so the likly hood is, those boxes have run over our conveyors 😉

Also, the wrap around design is far cheeper than a standard box.. you can make six or more in one run through a machine… rather than one at a time for “standard” boxes…

    Anyone still awake ?

Ive ordered one of those last night, can I ask where do you get the MTB Courses from ?

I fail to see why having children can possibly stop you doing normal things like riding until xmas!!?

ahh, another helpless soul who’s not met my wife….

And to go through the logistics, we already have a 2 year old so.. evenings with the new baby will be 2 year old asleep at 7:30, then wife goes to bed at 8 to 8:30, then I have the baby until around 11 for that feed, then wife does the nightshift, then I go to work in morning.
So the evenings have gone for the first few months until that night feed drops off.

Then weekends, pretty unfair leaving the wife with a 2 yo and a newborn baby, unless I do the 50 min drive to in-laws or my parents and drop one off.

Will get easier in the New Year when baby starts sleeping through.

So a turbo makes sense, can pop in the garage for a couple of hours between 8 and 11..

timing on the post.. I was just thinking the same as baby #2 is due in september, so I cant see how i’ll get out much until Xmas ish.
Turbo sounded like a good solution to keep some level of fitness.

I tried the consolatory approach today.. and to be fair to Nino.. He’s agreed to send a replacement outer part of the cassette.. fair play in the end.. shame I had to go through the ringer first but his initial reaction was as I thought the spider had gone.

Alls well that ends well I guess…

How did it come off the cassette?

I think the sprockets has broken first kicking the chain off. I’ve never had an issue with it going into the spokes before.. and yet all maximum limit screws were set.

Strangley, the guy this morning has admited responsbility.. but, said I don’t deserve it so wont replace it ! He’s done this on the basis that I’ve given his shite products a bad image on here and MTBR… which I did do, after he initially said, without even seeing a picture of the damge, sod off !

Shimano / SRAM – you both need new departments wherby you only offer Warranty to people who don’t bitch about your products when they fail, get some one tralling the itnernet for complaints BEFORE you pay out 😉

Fair point Dez but, if done well, XG999 etc, there shouldnt be a week point on the cassette. Wear is wear, fair enough.

My point is that there is a design fault with this cassette.
All the other rings, 32 downwards don’t have the metal removed at the point they meet the spider, however this 36 tooth ring does… its a design flaw.

Really, if you want to have a pop, read the f’ing thread.

Im NOT, and never have complained about wear, or bad shifting, I’m complaining about the thing cracking.

Is it really worn ? Honestly, this has been on my 29er that I’ve ridden Max 250 miles since Nov last year, its set up with my Hamax childseat mount on it as most of its duties have been carting daughter up and down cylce tracks !

    simonm
    Free Member

id bet you a million million pounds my version is what happened

Who said the shifting was shite ? Where do I collect my money ?

Honestly, this thing just caved in. I’ve had many other cassettes where chain has jumped into spoke and its NEVER failed. This think is simply not for purpose.

Stripped it down today and I was wrong about the spider, its the ring itself that’s cracked.. there appears to be a week point where there isn’t much metal, just behind the teeth.

These end up being interpreted in every which way but, here is a pick anyway.

Its all a little suspicious, his instant reaction was denial.. and my first contact with him regarding this was so polite… I think.. its happening quite a bit for these judging by his reaction.

O well, live and learn, Sram next time.

BTW, I’d say ive owned this for 9months, its on my 29er HT that I’ve not ridden as much as my Full Sus bike, maybe 200 miles in that time…

    Seller told me,

C’mon. You ask for a 12 month warranty on such a high wear item?
As mentioned i sold hundreds of these cassettes over the last 5 years and never ever had something similar happen. So please understand that i have my doubts that it’s the cassettes fault. It is definitely not a manufacturers fault but might rather be a case of bad circumstances out on the trail.I am still sorry to hear about but i really don’t see any warranty case here

Wouldn;t you expect at least the first question he should ask would be, “shit – sorry to hear that – can I take a look at the cassette first and take it from there ?”

    simonm

9 months is a good life for a lightweight cassette

for the spider to snap ? Yeh, rings wear out / bend etc.. but spider snapping is just a bad unit surely ?

    simonm

it’s a fault thats known on weight weenies.

However, I really like 2.25 ardents (good volume for a 2.25), and just bought a 2.4″ for the front to try out.

I’m running a pair of 2.4s on my 29er.. great..its funny though, on my 26″ bike I wouldn’t run them in anything remotely damp but on the 29er.. I’ve found them OK in the wet… strange..

    simonm

I quite like Ardents I’m running but, despite the smallish looking profile they dont roll that well on road… fast rolling on road – likes wet – has grip off road – I think thats tyre nervana… a compromise has to be made somewhere.
Ardent upfront with SB8 on the rear ?
