Bit of an update. My new pair have had exactly the same issue. From the mtbr thread it seems that the new seal assembly wasn’t introduced until mid this year so the pair I have will likely have the old one a they were made in March.

It’s incredibly frustrating and I have no idea how more people aren’t finding issues with this. Is it a bad batch of seals or are they all the same but people aren’t noticing?

Badlywireddog, has the nsd seal assembly sorted yours or is it still early days?

I did contemplate getting the nsd assembly but will see how mine go. That’s what I will do should it happen again.

I can’t complain at all. Fishers have been great in sending me a new set.

Seemed so with mine. Like I say I bled the damper and changed the seals but it reoccurred not long after.

If as Rick Draper mentions above they have a new seal assembly that would probably fix it for at least a good while longer.

Fingers crossed if you have taken them to be done they might have replaced the assembly?

Mine was sorted too after a bleed but only for a couple of rides.

As above air will be getting into the damper past the seal head assembly. I had the same problem. Changed the seals but still happened.

Speak to fishers. They will probably get you to send the fork back via the shop you get them from / any fishers dealer.

I wouldn’t mind joining in at some point. Work shifts so can’t do regular but live in lud foot so anywhere this area is good for me.

What about sorting some form of Facebook / other group based thing?

Not sure about grouchy Hora. If anything if they aren’t smooth as normal they likely have a lack of grease / lubricating oil in the lowers.

Do the r have an air side? Thought they were coil?

Agree with the rc3 tis. Sold a pair of 44s for pikes. Only down side is they aren’t the stiffest. Would buy some 160 55s in a flash.

One good thing is Windwave are second to none when it comes to helping out and sorting things.

Did you get the r or cr hora? Be interested to see how they are in comparison to others you have tried.

    Cheers Chris.

The r is about £100 cheaper. I like the idea of a simple reliable fork. Not sure the r would be that. And I had heard / read about lack of lube in them.

    Anyone?

I have been looking at these too having been disappointed with my pikes.

I imagine when the manitou’s settings have been dialled in they should be extremely good forks. The damping is supposed to be very good along with the air spring. A few reliability issues from the sounds though.

The good things with the marzocchi is the 3 year guarantee and the reported plushness but again possible reliability issues (seems most forks have problems here and there these days).

I think I would try the manitous for the performance and damping technology but that three year guarantee does go a long way.

As above whate date you thinking?

I had this, all be it on the RC model. When I took the lowers off, the damper had lost a bit of oil (from reading other posts on mtbr not uncommon due to poor lower seal)

I bled the damper and changed the seal and it seems fine now.

Il take them apart tomorrow and have a nosy.
Check there are no scores to the shaft and replace the seals and see how they go. Should sort it hopefully.

Just wondered if it was a common problem? Glad it didn’t happen earlier on a fairly sizeable drop.

And it’s a new type? Not the old 32mm version.

    Black spire monoveloce ring
    Xt cassette
    Hope expander
Slx med clutch with rad cage

Shifts flawlessly and no dropped chains but does drop down 2 from the 40t when back pedalling, although not caused an issue when out and about.

The adventure light would probably be the best choice for cycling as its lighter than the normal velez and thus I imagine a bit more breathable. As has been mentioned they are a fairly casual fit. I am a large generally and large is spot on for me.

    Depends what’s spendy to you.

Sports Pursuit had some paramo velez adventure smocks for £115 which is a great price for that particular jacket.

I have a slightly heavier weight Paramo jacket and the materials are amazing. Very very breathable.

Generally very good. Again it was about purchasing a bike and questions were answered within a day.

Loco has Dual position coil sektor for £203 1 1/18 steerer 15mm.

Then which ever superstar wheelset you want.

Is this a 44 or 55? I was wondering if there would be much noise if left un wrapped.

I have a 44 and have tried slightly thicker wrap but there’s so little room for anything other than the spring that it created a bit of stiction so contacted windwave and got some of the original stuff, which lasts 2 minutes.

As per Ben the bolt will go the full way through the thread on the 30t rings. I have spaced my 30t inwards 3mm for a better chain line using a dpacer and used the Raceface poly bash bolt kit which is plenty long enough.

As already mentioned AM45. I have found them great for my hobbit feet.

    simonhuscroft

The only issue I found with doing the same was that it was just enough to make my right foot catch the stay when pedalling. So I put it back and spaced out the chainring with some spacers.

    Try it and see.

If I were to get one (happy enough with 26 for now) it would be a Stanton Switchback. Looks well designed with good geometry.

A friend has a Slackline which seems very good. Switchback seems like a slacker 650b version.

Not the cheapest though so depends on budget.

Sounds like you need a crank extractor tool to get the cranks off and a bb removal tool to get the bb out.

I think judging by the issues that some people (yourself included Hora) have had it would be wise to buy new in case of any warranty issues.

    Thanks though.

Thanks Frosty. Makes me wonder, even though it’s meant to be the dynamic bleed cartridge damper in them, if it might be some form of simpler less effective version.

I am 5’7” 29” inseam and have an 18” marley (same sizing as piglet I think looking on Ragley site). Have it with 150mm forks and use it’s my do it all (the only bike I have) bike.

I use it with a 50mm stem and wouldn’t want it any smaller.

I did Vancouver to San Fran about 10 year ago so the old memory is a bit hazy but we used this book: Bicycling the Pacific Coast: A Complete Route Guide, Canada to Mexico. It’s good as it suggests places to camp and other little trips off the route.

The state parks are awesome if camping and usually keep a few sites for hiker bikers, or at least did back then. Some also do yurts to stop in.

It’s a great route. Highly recommended.

Mine too states high power which I believe is the new BH90 hose and uses silver inserts (that’s what mine came with).

I have an 18” marley and it’s spot on for me with a 60mm stem at 5′ 7.

It builds into a light and very capable bike. I have never had a sprightly lightweight steel frame to compare the stiffness of it to but it seems fine and not overly tiring. I have had numerous long travel hardtail frames (chameleon, stiffee, surge, mmmbop,BFe) and along with the mmmbop it’s definitely the best handling of them all. As said previously its slack head angle helps on the downs but it has a relatively steep seat angle to position the weight to stop the front wandering too much.

Something to think about would be the length / travel of fork used. 140/150 would be ideal with a ragley. But having had a BFe, which has I believe the same angles as the soul, I don’t think 150 would feel very good. 150 on the BFe made the seat angle very slack and the front wander very easily. You can compensate with technique but it’s not ideal. Probably around 120 would be ideal with the soul.

I imagine the soul would build into a lovely bike but also the ragley manufacturing has improved to say the least. The paint / welding is miles better on the marley over the mmmbop.

Looking at previous posts on here it seems they need a new air spring assembly for the desired length.

I’m not sure about travel. There are sag gradients on the stanchions for different travels so possibly.
Sorry, I know that doesn’t help.
