I’ve got a few pairs. They’re very useful for mtb riding without a bag or bum bag.

My faves are Nukeproof Blackline. Back pockets are deep and hang over the waist band of trousers/shorts which is a good thing, I  can get a multi tool, tubeless repair kit, snacks and either a thin windproof jacket or a soft water bottle in there. They also have leg pockets which I never use cos you have to drop your baggy shorts to access them.

2nd favourite are my Madison Flux Capacity 😂 Very comfy pad and have a fly hole which should mandatory on all bibs! Pockets are a bit small though.

“For example, my “normal mountain bike ride” takes in plenty of downhills – ideally with a bit of tech and a jump or two, but it’ll require a fair bit of climbing to get the most out of it”

My rides are mostly like this but without the jumps😂

Do like a bit of gravel or xc type rides too though.

If you have a little more time, up Dark Lane from Hebden Rd to the top road, go left then right onto the BW at Upwood caravan park. Go onto Black Moor turn immediately left then right at the bottom of the little descent, go around the back of the quarry and come out on Halifax Road, turn right then left at the junction towards Cullingworth then immediately right to pick up the Calder/Aire link. Follow the Calder/Aire all the way to St Ives Estate. At the Golf club go left and up to Altar Lane, go all the way up Altar Lane turn left onto Keighley Rd then right onto the BW over the moor to the Guide Pub. Go straight on at the cross roads, after the wiggly bit turn right up the track past Ashgrove Farm, at the bottom of the descent turn left and continue until you get back to Bingley Road, turn right. At the main road take Hardgate Lane (v steep) to the top and then straight across onto Brow Moor, cross Brow Moor and drop into Haworth.

I have a Fox Defend wind vest, windproof front, mesh back, loose fit but not baggy. I use it loads as I overheat quickly in a jacket even in the depths of winter. I like it, only improvement, for me anyway, would be a chest pocket.

I got a Katadyn BeFree last year to use on the Jennride. It worked really well.

Once home I packed it away in my camping box, when I next went in the box my insect repellent had leaked and melted a hole in the Katadyn soft flask☹️

    Also sick of the weather!

Yesterday morning it was warm enough to ride in shorts and t shirt. This morning it was snowing😭

Local ride, never seen it as muddy, is it ever going to stop raining!

Felt hard after a week away in the sun with only some easy tarmac/gravel rides 🥵

Still the sun came out and it was warm enough for the beer garden 🍻

My 3rd car was a mk1 1.1cc Golf, then I had a mint Polo Coupe that I sold to buy a less than perfect ’83 Mk1 Golf 1.8 Gti, would love to have a go in one now to see if they’re as much fun as I remember.

Wind deflectors on the front windows allow you to leave them open slightly to give a bit of ventilation.

Lancashire Repair Service is currently replacing mine, using the Vibram dotty sole – I’m expecting them back soon, I can report on the quality of the work if you want to.

Yes, please report back with pics, it’ll be interesting to see how they turn out.

What would you do if you did see it up for sale?

And would you really want it back after it’s been used and abused by someone else for over a year?

I had it riding the northern section of the Pennine Bridleway from Kirby Steven to Hebden Bridge over two days. I was riding a rigid Pinnacle Ramin, steel fork with a 29×2.6 Rekon (at maybe low 20s PSI) on the front, can’t remember at what point my hands went numb but it lasted for a good few days after the ride, which was a bit worrying!
I now use a different bike with a suspension fork for big rides or multi day bike packing stuff.

I’ve had an Instinct Solar for a few years and it’s been faultless. Wear it constantly as my only watch, I do a manual job and it still looks ok, never used a screen protector.

Solar feature works well, I only need to charge it once every couple of weeks. When I was in Turkey for a week last spring it stayed fully charged all week despite doing 4 biggish rides.

Only slight issue is it doesn’t always read high heart rates accurately, when I’m on the turbo I use a chest strap and the watch often reads significantly lower but this maybe an issue with many watches rather than just the Instinct.

I mostly like mine, they are fairly waterproof, had them a couple of months, not washed in the machine yet just hosed off.
Fit is ok but I find them a bit tight on my thighs.
RRP is ridiculous, even the £80 I paid for mine seems expensive!

Not an uncommon occurrence here, we have 10 litres of emergency bottled water under the stairs, enough to make a brew.

@bikesandboots how do you define a “proper ride”? A proper ride means different things to different people.

I have Motos on my rigid Pinnacle Ramin commuter/bike packing/shitty weather bike, they cost me as much as the frame and fork did🤣
I’ve left them full width but added some SQLabs in-board stubby bar ends for an alternative hand position.

“I’d assume that OS as owners of the mapping, wouldn’t be allowing people to download the entire country offline, for the price of an annual sub or a handful of paper maps. Aside from the huge amount of data it would require, i’m guessing their commercial model (for good or bad) means that to get complete UK mapping has to cost £100s in either physical maps or downloads. Looks like a good addition to strava though”

Years ago I paid a one off sum, can’t remember how much, maybe a tenner, for the Back Country Navigator app. No idea what BCN pay Ordnance Survey but the app allows me to download as much OS mapping as I like.

Edit: Why are quotes so hard to do!!

My own experience backs this up, I was at my lightest when I didn’t have a car for a few months and mostly rode my bike to work.
