Day 3 of our Tweed Valley weekender yesterday, uplift assisted big day out at Glentress.PXL_20241013_110025564.MPPXL_20241013_092847674.MPScreenshot_20241014-204316PXL_20241013_094332757.MP

I did 3 biggish MTB rides in the Tweed Valley over the weekend and I’m absolutely knackered, I had to have a 20 minute power nap at lunchtime to get me through the working day.
I have no shame in saying I am doing **** all exercise today!

It’s raining and I can’t be arsed with the weekly MTB night ride so I’ve fired up the turbo trainer for the first time since spring. Managed 30 mins on it and it’s just as shit as I remembered it was?

EDIT when are emojis going to work again?

I bought one a new Cannondale Prophet in 2009, which I think was the last year they were sold. Did all sorts of riding on it, general riding, Enduros, XC races, even tried to do the Mega on it but broke my thumb in practice! Still have it but not ridden it properly for about 10 years.

And I agree with the gilet comments.

I’m yet to find a jacket that I don’t overheat in.

“And shorts, with pockets. Why? I pedal, legs go up and down and up and down and up and down. I don’t want keys, phone, wallet bouncing around on my thigh. I don’t want to fall on them either.”

Conversely I like to carry my phone and keys in my shorts pockets. I won’t buy baggy shorts or riding trousers without decent pockets.

    Too many…..
    Used regularly:-
    Five Ten Freerider Pro
    Five Ten Trailcross Goretex
    Five Ten Hellcat SPD
FLR roadie spds for turbo trainer use.

Old Spesh Defroster SPD occasionally used for cold/wet winter commutes.

Spares/Old but too good to chuck out:-
    Specialized 2FO SPD
    Five Ten Freerider

Didn’t get on with but never got rid of:-
    Adidas Terrex Trail Cross SL

    Think that’s it :-)

“wet tyre choice in Yorkshire is such a different concept to me finding a suitable tyre for my locals.”

Yorkshire is a huge county with lots of different soil and rock combinations!

    @stablebarns
where in the country are you?

    Good to hear.
Just got my rigid hardtail commuter out after a summer hanging in the shed and the rear SLX caliper has sprung a leak ?
So I need a cheap set of brakes and saw the CRS 2 pot brakeset with rotors on Amazon for £74.99.

Google image search suggests it’s a Mega Ranch, based on a Citroen AX.

Forgot about this thread. While we were up there a local advised us to ignore the Big Baw closure tape.
    We did.
The trail had been cleared and was riding really well?

    Same question as above^^

A year on has anyone got any feedback on these brakes?

Does Friday afternoon count as the weekend? Had to drop a parcel off in Ilkley so had a short but sweet ride around the moor.

Not used it but I’m interested.

Can it be run on an Apple TV box like Strava?

In spring ’23 I’d had my bike stolen and needed a new one in a hurry.
There wasn’t that much on offer at reduced prices back then and I reluctantly bought a Ripmo AF SLX air for £2500, the spec for that money was really good.
It looks weird in all the promotional photos, particularly side on.
As above it looks better IRL and you can’t see it when you’re riding it! Plus it’s rare to see another one out on the trails and nobody knows what it is.

Having said all that I really wanted a Stumpy EVO……….

I’d looked at Trailforks, I just wondered if any locals could say how up to date the info was.

We’re in the Tweed Valley this weekend, what Golfie trails are currently affected by forestry works?

Early adopter here too, it’s been 10euros per year since I signed up. Had the subscription renewal email for this year but it doesn’t say how much it is, hopefully it’ll stay the same.

I don’t use it that often but it’s very useful when exploring/riding new areas or spots I don’t ride frequently.

@DaveyBoyWonder that Scarhouse loop is the classic ride up that way, I’ve done it a few times over the years. It’s very XC but the descent to Scarhouse is kinda fun, as is the final downhill section into Ramsgill but all the gates can be a pain.

A petrol Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 107. Cheap, simple, reliable and lots to choose from, although you will need to increase your budget to get a decent one.

My kids are grown up now but when they were smaller we would go to Glentress as a family.

We’d park at Buzzards Nest ride Blue Velvet, Berm Baby Berm then red/blue back to the cafe, I’d then ride back up for the car. The kids loved it, in my experience most kids don’t like pedaling uphill.

Sounds awful so I’ve never tried it, maybe I should give it a go!

My situation is similar to the OP except my near vision is fine with or without glasses but variable with contacts, really need to go back to opticians to try some different contacts.

That’s a shame. I’ve taken part in and mostly enjoyed quite a few PMBA races over the years but I’ve not done one since Kirroughtree in ’19. I think I just got out of the habit of “racing” (I’m not very fast!) during the COVID lockdowns.
