I have a Facebook page for work so have to have a account for that but I don’t go on my personal one anymore – can’t even remember the password or e mail for it.

I think it’s just rubbish, people are addicted to it and it makes them scared of being alone for a minute.

I’d never use it for personal stuff again.

usually tires have a yellow dot – this is lightest point and should be synced to the valve stem as this is the rims heaviest point but not always and rotating the tire round the rim could help in some case.

I never knew about this, I’d seen the dots but didn’t know what they meant.

As far as I knew, you chucked a tyre on, spun the machine, it told you where to put the weight and how heavy and away you go.

Didn’t know there was more to it than that.

It’s very unlikely to be a problem other than something to do with the tyres. I’ve had 4 Fiestas now and they can take a battering so with the condition of your car being good and the low mileage, I wouldn’t worry about the car.

I think you are doing the right thing going somewhere else. When I used to lease the cars, they used Halfords for servicing and all they did was drop the oil and charge the leasing company for a full service.

I found that out as I used to drop it off and go for a wander ” come back in an hour and half mate, we will get straight on with it ” as they drove it in. My mate went past 20 mins later and it was parked outside in a different space. Didn’t move again till I collected it. When It next went in, I cabled tied the wheel trims on and my ties were still on when I collected it. They has supposedly done a major service……

Just seen on Twitter that a rider called Davey Lambert has passed away following a crash yesterday.

    Rest in peace.

I’m no tyre fitting expert but I’ve seen enough tyres fitted over the years on mine and company vehicles and I’ve never heard of rotating a tyre on the rim.

Sounds like they can’t get them balanced up 100 %

Things I’ve learned about balancing, just from having tyres fitted.

Are they alloy wheels ? If so, are they using stick on weights ? If they are, any chance they are not sticking fully and you are losing one as the car gains speed ? ( this shouldn’t happen )

Is there any damage to the wheel it’s self ? My driving school car has a wheel that is now just for spare as its been Kerbed that many times it just won’t balance up 100 %

The tyres themselves could be out of shape.

It’s not going to be suspension wear at that age / milage. My Fiesta is a 62 plate with 118,000 on it and the only suspension part I’ve had replaced was a ball joint a few months back.

I’ve found Halfords to be a shower of ….. I’d give them one last chance then tell them you are taking it elsewhere and sending them the bill.

Our local sixth form has a similar drill.

The students had to practice it to make sure they all understood the procedure.

It was to sit under a desk till they got called out. They were under the desks 30 mins. Playing candy crush :D

I’m not saying it’s not important., glad they take things serious.

The intension is to convert it into a day van/camper next year

    Just re-read this.

How about getting a side door window fitted so that potential thieves can see its empty ?

I have in mine and on the rare occasions I leave the bike in whilst going in a service area etc, I’ve kept the ply lining that was over the door so I can cover the window from the inside. Rest of time, they can look in and see a Dog Kennel and a Bowl and nowt else.

If you have ply lining, you can also cover the window temporary if you are doing tip runs etc so nothing damages it.

I’m guessing that it’s the standard Ford problem of twisting the lock barrel ?

Has anyone else seen Liam’s Twitter feed ? I will not repeat it on here as you can imagine the tone, but he is not happy with Noel.

There are Cyclists Dismount signs in strange places around here.

One I can think of is on a shared use path on the roundabout over a motorway. The signs are as you cross the slip roads and it’s certainly safer to cycle across than push across as the traffic free flows off the motorway and they go at some speed.

[/quote]You should be driving at or near the limit when it is safe to do so. If you drive at 60 in an NSL when the road conditions would suggest a slower speed to be more appropriate then you will fail a test; similarly, if you mince around at 30 in an NSL for no good reason, you will also fail.

    Exactly. Spot on.

Apologies if I don’t write the correct thing every time, I’m not good at putting things into writing.

A good one to ask motorists is what speed they should drive at when they see the national speed limit sign. You will get answers from 30, 40 but rarely will anyone get it correct that you can drive a car at 60 in a national.
There are countless roads around here that are NSL where you most definitely shouldn’t drive at 60 mph. Maybe you want to rephrase your question?

Ok. ” what is the national speed limit for a car and if safe to do so, what speed can you get upto ? ”

Some good points made in this thread regarding recognition of limits.

It’s amazing how many people look at a road and choose a limit due to the features of the road, houses etc. I have a lot of students who will think they are in a 40 when they are in a 30 due to the houses being further apart. I always have a joke with them that they ” see a bit of grass and think it’s a 40 ”

Around my area, there is a lot of areas with missing repeater signs so, for test purposes, if they miss the 40 and carry on at 30, they will fail. Not a massive problem when you have passed apart from annoying people behind.

I don’t think it’s been mentioned so far but the only time you will get 30 mph repeaters is when there are no street lights.

    open rear nearside passenger door

My mates daughter did that to a motorist who close passed her a few years ago.

Few weeks after the event, I was at his and we were talking about driving etc and I said to his daughter ” hey how about you when you opened that woman’s back door at the lights ”

Her face dropped and I realised that she hadn’t told her dad. He then said to her, quite abruptly, ” you did what ?!?!? ” as she explained what had happened, I thought I’d dropped her right in it till he held his hand up to high five her

At Halfords, you get 10% off anything even if it’s reduced already.

Unless it’s something you just need to collect quickly, I’ve found that reserving online then collecting instore causes less confusion in store as some staff haven’t got a clue about how the discount works and they think they can’t take the 10% off the already reduced item.

Other staff don’t even look properly at the BC card. I put mine on the till the other day flag side up and the lad didn’t turn it over to see if it was still in date. Just scanned the voucher page on his till.

I like STW too much to type my feelings about Brady. Pure Evil.

Let’s not forget Keith Bennetts mum Winnie Johnson who passed away nearly 5 years ago without finding where Keith was buried. She came across as a lovely lady on TV interviews.

Taking that secret to his deathbed was Brady’s last evil act.

OP I think you’ve borne the brunt of the actions of one or more less responsible dog walkers who are unwilling or unable to get beyond the end of the close before letting the pooch unload on the verge.

The ownership of the land is a side issue really. If the bloke is civic minded enough to maintain it, he shouldn’t have to deal with dog cr@p.

Looking at the pic again, the land isnt exactly on your way anywhere, so it was a reasonable assumption on his part that you were intending to empty and go.

Yeah I kind of understand where he was coming from, but one day behaving like that he is going to end on a liquid diet. Few years ago I would have planted him one myself.

My dog just loves sniffing about and he had walked the length of the verge from the left of the picture then we got to the part in question and he appeared.

I said to him that he needs to think before accusing and he admitted he felt ashamed of his initial actions when I showed him the dog bag I’d picked up and the 2 empty ones in my pocket

Obviously, that’s why every 50 limited motorway section I’ve driven has the second lane full of HGVs trying to carry their limited speed and passing cars doing 50.
I’ve been travelling the A1M roadworks between Leeming & Scotch Corner for the past 2 years & never seen that. Don’t think I’ve ever been tailgated by an HGV either (although I’ve had many a tow from them)

Come to Manchester and have a drive round the roadworks section of the M60

You can be doing 50 mph and have a LGV literally 2ft from your back bumper.

    Frightening.

I do 3 full days and 2 half days a week.

Normally full days Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, half days are Tuesday and Saturday full days off Friday and Sunday.

The full days are 11-12 hours long though….

Gives me time to do stuff though. Been out in the van with my dog this afternoon mooching about.

Love my job as well so that helps

I want one which does front and rear recording from a single unit, any recommendations?

I’ve got a Blackvue that does front and rear.

Not cheap, about £230 but very discreet behind the rear view mirror with only 2 wires to connect one power and a lead to the rear camera which again is very small.

Think they use Sony cameras in the units so the quality is good,

I think the point being made reference drivetrain strain earlier is that smaller diameter wheels take less effort to get moving from a standing start.

If the speedo has been adjusted to suit, there is a difference in rolling diameter which can be calculated here

    http://www.willtheyfit.com/

Not saying it’s wrong because I don’t know the set up, but this will tell you the difference over the standard wheels and may help you calculate the lowering.

I’ve a Fiesta 1.4 tdci 2012 model, 115,000 miles never used a drop of oil between services.

Don’t see any reason to replace as there is nothing wrong with it.

Serviced on the dot 12,500 mile intervals. I did have the timing belt done early though…..

Not at all Neal, just saying he doesn’t need to weigh himself down with paperwork on the day.

The will hit the fan if there is an accident and the OP is not insured and the examiner sues him.

One examiner tried suing a instructor because his candidate did the emergency stop too well. Examiner said nothing on the day, but the instructor got a letter a few weeks later saying he was being sued for whiplash 8O

It happens all the time on test day, candidate doesn’t read the conformation e mail correctly, comes out of house with passport, birth certificate, kitchen sink, great aunt Mabel’s ashes….. :D Just gets them stressed when they get there and they have all the paperwork set out and the examiner says ” don’t need to see all that ”

Just need provisional licence, or full licence if they have full motorbike licence, and the theory pass certificate.

I think it’s a very valid question OP

Well done in getting on the road but, like anything you are new to, somethings will crop up that you will not have seen in your lessons. That’s no disrespect to your instructor or yourself, driving is a dynamic environment and you can’t set things up. You can’t set up a lesson on overtaking cyclists as you may not come across any.

You can’t set up a lesson on dealing with emergency vehicles as you may not need to pull in….

Best advice I can give without being there whilst the cyclist is in front of you, is if you would not be happy with a driver passing you at that point, hold back till it’s safer.

The best drivers never stop learning.

In terms of what actually happens at the Test Centre, the examiner will not ask to see any paperwork regarding your insurance.

All they want is a signature to say that the vehicle is insured and that you have been a resident normally in the UK for at least 180 days in the last 12 months.

They just take your word that the car is insured.

They used to check the tax disc was in date but obviously since they went, they just assume the car is taxed….

    Growing up basically.

Being grateful for things and just living a simple life.

Few things made me realise. Losing my Nan and being completely on my own at the Hospltal when she died made me realise I’ve have to look after myself. No one will always look after you.

Sounds arrogant, but love yourself. Not in a looking at myself in the mirror all the time way but realise what you are good at and what your faults are.

Realising that the world has idiots in it and I will never change then so just ignore them.

Like as been said, as far as I know a trapped nerve isn’t trapped, it’s pinched and inflamed.

I had pins and needles in my left arm and leg last week, went to GP and he said it was trapped nerve in my neck.

    Ibuprofen and paracetamol as neccesary.

I’ve front and rear cameras on my car and if I play the clips back, they are about 27 mph on the GPS video when it’s indicated 30 on the speedo.

Quite how you manage to drive for several miles along a fairly empty motorway without noticing a police car has been following you for several miles is perhaps just as worrying as the speeding itself.

    This

Our local plod are proud of posting up on Twitter how fast they have caught people going. I am not condoning speeding for one second, but how much attention are these motorists paying when they can’t even realise another car is behind them at 130 mph + which the police dealt with the other day.

Even if it’s unmarked, are they not thinking ” whys he behind me ? ” coz they are not looking

But I would have to vote for the whole of Bolton. Nukes from space is the only way forward.

Can you let me leave first though, I don’t wanna get Nuked.

It is a depressing place. I live on the outskirts and here is dull but trouble free. Same with my mate, on the outskirts.

    The centre is just awful.

Other parts of the U.K., I think it depends on what you class as bad, just needs updating or if there is high crime etc, Blackpool has been mentioned loads and I call it ” the Hollywood Facade ” money been spent on the front, go 2 streets back and it’s high crime, drugs, bedsits etc.

Just asking coz there is less to advise.

Guessing they have recommended the Dog as suitable for your circumstances. In that case, I would just ask about any back up from the kennels if you have any behaviour problems. Is anyone there to advise or pop round to help.

Find out as much as possible about the dogs background as they can behave different in kennels.

Have any of your kids, if applicable, been to meet the Dog already ?

Find out also, worst case scenario, what happens if the Dog has to be returned.

Any rules on informing them if you move ?

Is it neutered / chipped etc ( assuming it will be )

    What it’s been eating ?

Mum does home checks for a animal charity, and these things will have already been put across to the potential owners by her charity so she just suggested running through that list just to make sure.

Most should have been covered already.
