A girl near me had a Citreon that had a standard plate that had DOH at the end so she stuck Homer Simpson stickers all over the car :D

A colleague has PA55 SED and another guy I know of has LE55 ONS, both on Driving School cars.

My Fiesta is the same, regens approx every 500 miles and it will do it around town at any random point.

When it does regen, it absolutely stinks like burning rubber, kicks out a plume of grey smoke that James Bond would be proud of and requires a firmer accelerator when setting off else it will stall.

Oh, the radiator fan kicks in as well.

I had subscribed to a website via PayPal ( all legitimate and above board, it’s a training website for work ) and decided to cancel as I had been on a training course which covered all the points the website covers.

The website owner refunded me within 10 mins of me e mailing my request to cancel but on PayPal, it was classed as pending for about 10 days.

I wasn’t worried as I know the guy is 100% honest, but it was strange it was pending at all.

    It’s not just new estates.

My mate lives on a street where there are a mix of terraced houses and semi’s. His house is one of the last to be built on the street and is the only one with a drive.

He is self employed and has a works van. If he parks on the street instead of his drive, someone will ring his mobile on private number and call him selfish for taking spaces up 8O

This happened a couple of weekends ago when he was working locally and nipped home for a pee when he was passing on the way to a suppliers

If you cant control a dog, it shouldn’t be off lead, end of story.

That’s the point I was trying to make.

My dog can either be a complete sweetheart when out and about, or can be a nightmare as anything can set him off so that’s why he doesn’t come off the lead in public areas. The Dog Trainers have said this is the best thing to do.

I had the opposite happen a while ago. I’m doing as much socialisation as possible with him and I took him to a beach that we hadn’t been to before. Since my other Lab died, he has always looked at Black Labs and got excited as the trainers reckon he thinks it’s the one who died.

Saw a black lab and my dog started to pull towards it so I held him firm on his harness. The owner of the black lab, which was off lead layed into me saying I’m cruel for having on a lead. I explained he was training, had no recall and was a rescue and she called me a cruel *******

Her dog then legged it off as she screamed after it……….

My dog is a rescue and is loads more sociable than he was when I got him. He is brilliant at recall when at training classes and at home but he is easily distracted so I don’t let him off the lead in public places as he would see something and just run, not even thinking about people traffic etc.

He comes off lead in a local paddock and has a good run and I jog with him in the fields.

With him being a rescue, I don’t know what has happened to him previously.

    What’s the set up ?

Standard head unit and speakers or are they aftermarket ?

I’m guessing the wires in your bottom picture are the feed from the speakers ?

Regarding the price of the ST, bear in mind an all new Fiesta is out in September and there are some big savings on the current model to be had.

I’ve seen £5k off list price on a forecourt full of ST Line Fiesta’s Today so you may find a new, lower milage car for the same price as the one you have test drove.

I got a different van in January this year. My old van had 4 months MOT left on it but I knew it was getting uneconomical to repair.

When buying my new van, I mentioned my old van and the guy offered me £150 for it. I told him it was scrap but he said ” someone may want it for a couple of months ”

Being nosey, I put its reg into the MOT history and this came up. He had put it through an MOT 8O

Can I just add.. we went to look at a 308. The glovebox is minuscule, because Peugeot CBA to move the fuse box to the other side of the car for RHD models.

My friend had a 206 about a W reg or something and the brake lights stopped working so I got a switch for it and spent ages looking under the brake pedal to find the old one.

After a phone call to the car shop were I’d got the switch from, they told me it was under the passenger glovebox

100 % the car pulling out and on a Driving Test a candidate would be faulted if they started to emerge before a vehicle had physically started turning in or obviously slowing down enough to make it obvious they were turning in.

Like has been said, car a could be pulling up after the junction.

Another thing is pulling out if a Van or Truck is turning in. I recommend waiting till they can see 100 % that it is clear behind the van / truck in case there is a small car or motorbike tailgating. Not too bad with cars turning in as you can see following traffic clearer.

Saw a vivaro hanging by an unclamped injector from a forklift last time I was in at my local garage. …….

The entire weight of the van ? 8O

I got my Vivaro from a local specialist who has a tool that removes the injectors under pressure with a stupid amount of PSI behind it. It confused me as to how it works, but it was connected to air line then a massive compressor

I’ve just had a look in the Haynes manual for my Vivaro and it seems more faff removing stuff to get to the Glow Plugs than actually taking them out.

Quick look on Euro Car Parts and the parts are about £100 all in.

Like Maccruiskeen said, they are vulnerable to water ingress so perhaps they have quoted in case they hit problems ?

First time I’ve ever said this ( probably ) but the cyclists are in the wrong.

Massive blind spots in that area, unless there are cameras retro fitted pointing that way, and the cyclists were in a left lane.

” it’s London mate, everyone does that ” I’ve only ever been London once so I’ve no idea if that’s correct but, if it was a car or white van man who had tried jumping in front of the LGV from the left lane who would everyone be blaming when they were sideswiped ? Everyone would be defending the LGV.

Think the guy who was hit realised that as he screamed and shouted then cycled off without exchanging details.

Keith Harris (of Orville &Cuddles) is a family friend and thoroughly lovely chap.

I was in Fish and Chip restaurant just outside of Blackpool about 3-4 years ago and Keith and his Wife where there having a meal. His Merc was outside with ORV 1LE number plate.

I didn’t speak to him, but overheard him taking to the staff and he seemed a sound bloke. Wish I had approached him now as it wasn’t long after he passed away and I loved Orville when I was growing up.

I have a 59 plate Vivaro 2.0 Cdti and get about 40 mpg out of it.

I drive a 69 bhp Fiesta so the van feels like a rocket as it has about 115 bhp and I just have it for the bikes and dog so there is no weight in it.

Sure yours isn’t a 2.0 Colin ? I may be wrong but I thought they stopped the 1.9 when they updated the front end and lights about 56 plate ?

We have used stuff from the vets in the past, prob that indorex stuff, where you have to leave the room etc.

Just do it before taking the family for a nice day out to calm the missus down

Another tip is to empty the Dyson every time you use it into bin bags etc, tied up into the dustbin.

simmy, I think that’s the most 70s photograph I’ve ever seen. Marvellous.

It’s was actually taken in about 1984 as I’m on my Raleigh Mag Burner and Mum got rid of the Cortina in 1985 or 1986 after some scrote nicked it. Mum couldn’t bear to be in it knowing some scumbag had driven it.

My jacket etc would have been from the 70’s as I had to make do with clothes from Jumble Sales as we had little money. Great uncle had bought us the car and my bike, mum had very little money.

I so wished I had kept that Burner. I got a mountain bike in about 1988 and think we either threw the burner out or gave it to the hospice charity shop.

For most vehicles you can get adaptors for the door speakers which replace the original speakers with the adaptors plate and the new speaker of your choice so that if you sell the van, you can just replace the originals straight back in.

I can only find adaptors for the Kangoo 2012 >

I’m not sure if those will fit as I’ve never seen inside a Kangoo. The dash speakers should just replace. If it’s like my Vivaro, which it’s more than likely is as mine has parts shared with the Trafic, they should be 4″ / 100 MM speakers in the dash.

    What Van is it ?

Hi simmy, thanks for that. it’s a 2011 berlingo and it is a compete side panel. I’m guessing replacing it might cost a fair bit though.

Yeah, I reckon that could write the van off in insurance terms depending on it value.

The parts cost would be mainly the side panel but, like we have said, it’s the complete side from Citreon which I’m guessing would be from the A pillar at the windscreen the entire side to the rear lights / door.

Even if they chop it at the side door like I said, they will charge you for the complete panel as the leftover part is useless to them ( unless they have a Berlingo with sill damage which they can use it for but they won’t tell the other customer they have a part lying around…….)

It’s then the labour which is quite a big job cutting it out, grinding clean, cutting new panel in etc.

Like I said, it’s a long time since I was involved in body shops but I’d be guessing £500 for panel and prob 10 hours labour at God knows what they charge these days, then paint and other stuff on top.

I’m guessing the dent is self inflicted  so just go with the suggestion of small independent body shop to get it something right if you have no experience of filling, hitting things in the correct place to get it straight etc.

It’s tempting it give it a go but you could make it worse.

    simmy

OP posted as I was posting

In that case, I’d look at getting a repair done at a small independent body shop, looking at that I don’t think you will get away with just hitting it as the spot welds may have split and it will need tacking back together.

The corner of the panel is going to be the most difficult part to get straight again as its the strongest part and will line up against the rear light so needs to be more or less straight.

I looked at a vivaro when I was looking for mine and it had had a hell of a whack up the back that you couldn’t see unless you looked at the bumper which wasn’t lined up so, if that can be made to look reasonable, yours should be easy to sort,

    What Van is it ?

That damaged panel is what would be called on car, the rear quarter panel. The ” correct ” way of repairing to get it like new would be to replace the panel which may come as a complete side depending on the van.

What will happen in reality is they won’t replace the entire side they will prob cut it in the middle of the sliding door then replace from there backwards. It’s fine to do that, just saves a lot of time and you would be hard pressed to see the joints if done correctly.

Let me know what van it is and I can have a look at pictures online and explain bit more. I’m no expert but I trained as a panel beater and have seen many repairs in body shops but I’ve been out of the game for 9 years or so.

Like has been said, anyone can insure a car, it doesn’t have to be insured by whoevers name is on the V5 but the main user has to be the policyholder.,

When I used to lease my cars, they were registered to the leasing company but insured by me.

Again, like has been said, it’s the policyholders NCD which is affected, not the Drivers. For example, my Mum had a bump in her works van a few years ago. It was a small company she was working for so they just had a policy to cover the 2 vans they had. The accident was Mum’s fault as she misread the lanes on a roundabout so the companies NCD was affected not her personal NCD. Mum still had to declare the accident when renewing her personal insurance and it went up a bit despite still having max NCD on her own policy.

3 years ago, almost to the hour, I found my Nan dead.

Different circumstances to the OP as Nan was in Hospital and I had spent all afternoon with her as she got more poorly and I’d nipped out to get some air, moved the car to a spot closer to the Hospital and had a bit of Tea.

Got back to the ward and Nan most have gone just before I’d got back as the Staff hadn’t noticed. I still felt totally alienated as I walked towards her bed knowing deep down she had gone but hoping I was wrong. Called a Nurse over who pulled the curtains around us and did basic checks, confirmed Nan had gone, left me there for a minute till a senior nurse came in and I was ushered out.

Still feel like I was floating through the corridors as I left the Hospital.

    Thoughts are with you OP

Seems a good place to ask! Am having a 24 hr ECG starting on Monday afternoon, are these things discrete enough to wear under a work shirt in the office? Not sure if I am going to be walking around with a little manbag or something?

I was in hospital when I had mine done and was wired up and couldn’t even leave the bed for a pee without asking permission so I’m guessing things have moved on in the past 18 years if they can do it while you are not admitted.

I had it diagnosed 18 years ago, had 24 hour ECG etc, heart ultrasound thingy and was told not to smoke, drink alcohol or caffeine

I quit smoking and drinking alcohol 6 years ago because I wanted to nothing to do with the heart issue.

Don’t really notice it, can still exercise and not suffer any effects ( touch wood )

I have the aerial on the Halfords link on my Van and it’s brilliant, the reception is as good as the factory set up in my car.

Just bear in mind that depending on which Van you have, you may have to drill into the roof to mount the aerial. I had an old Escort Van and I managed to mount the aerial on the very back of the roof and run the wire through a grommet in the door gap.

When I got my Vivaro, I tried a few ways of running the wire through from the outside and it just wasn’t happening. Couldn’t mount it at the very rear as the wire is too short. Ended up drilling, I think, a 8-10 MM hole to run the wire through next to the factory aerial. Then just got some grommets from Toolstation and using 2 together to seal the hole.

The aerial plug on the DAB is not as big as a standard FM aerial, but the wire is really thin so you end up drilling a big hole and having a thin wire going through but it’s still a million times better than the windscreen ones.

Like has been said, a lot depends on the driving.

My fiesta was due a belt at 120k but a colleague had a belt snap on him at 94k on the same car but they are both Driving School cars so get a lot of stop start journeys, stalling etc.

I bought my Vivaro with a reconditioned engine in it after the chain snapped on the last owner. Vauxhall say this doesn’t happen. The Vivaro / Trafic / Primastar specialist who I got my van off sees at least one snapped chain a week.

For the price, just change it.

Price is spot on for age and mileage.

Like has been said, side windows in the doors are about £200 – £300 for the pair. I paid £120 cash for a window in my sliding door.

For an idea of insulation etc, there have been some good threads on here recently to get ideas from.

The single front seat is pretty rare compared to the usual double and is ideal for the conversion as you can squeeze through to the cab if you need to which you can’t with a double.
