More snow here near Bolton so no work again unless it eases off and the roads clear.

Shouldn’t have bought all that stuff at the Bike Jumble yesterday I’m going to be skint now

I’m probably pointing out the obvious but if you are going roof mounted, buy a spray washer to get the worst of the mud off the bike before putting it on the rack.

I’ve a 591 on my car, and its brill now I’ve defrosted it :D but quite a lot of dirt and mud can fall off on a journey especially if its raining.

I remember last year handbraking into a space at McDonalds then remembering that the Car is now a fully stickered up Driving School car

Used to Handbrake all the time regardless of snow or not, had a Mk 4 Escort pulled the Handbrake up and it came away from the floor leaving it attached just with the cable.

    Awkward.

Nipped out Rivi last night, just stayed around the castle avoiding the top bits, the drifts where hard work, upto the axles at times.

Watched the JCBs clearing the Car Park at the Reebok and had a couple of comedy offs in the deep snow on the grassy bits :D

I think any Performance version of a Hot Hatch will be Classic.

Look at how many Escort RS Turbos where about in the 90s along with the Cosworths and now they are a rare car.

The R32 Golf, standard GTIs will hold there value.

If we are allowed a new car which I think will be Classic, its the Focus ST Estate as not many people are going to buy the Estate compared to the Hatch.

They have lollipop people on.Light controlled crossings here as well.

Back to the OP, its an offence as a lollipop person can’t wave you through a red, only, like stated Police, traffic warden, PCSO, Highways Agency etc.

But sometimes common sense prevails. If someone was reversing a van out of a street because it is too big to turn round, and the drivers mate asked you to stop I know I would even though legally you don’t have to also I’ve gone through red lights on roadworks when told to by the workmen – guessing the lights were stuck or something.

Anyone ever been stuck at a set of lights for ages, missed several sequences and its obvious they are broke, how long would you wait till you checked it was clear and went through ?

I’ve done that on the bike as the sensors don’t always pick the bike up as being there.

Hoping too. Went out Sunday night and had Snow all over the forks and my helmet by the time we got back my mates.

Gears weren’t working too well either.

At least we could turn the lights off on the trails due to the snow :D

I drove over Belmont Road earlier and there’s snow either side, not deep just a dusting but like has been said, ice is going to be the main issue.

I’m 35 and a student of mine wouldn’t believe I was older than 27 until I got my Drivng Licence out.

Like other members have put, I look younger clean shaven.

Which is probably why I’ve just started seeing a 20 year old…….

What’s the engine code ? Is it AGU or simular ?

If so, dont just scrap it. Loads of the lads with older VWs like MK 1 & 2 Golfs would consider it for an engine transplant.

Get an idea of how much its worth and price accordingly remembering that the buyer will make money selling the body panels etc so don’t let it go for a low amount.

EBay is a good start, along with the VW forums if you do decide to sell the Seat.

I got told about these a few weeks ago when a student of mine told me her mates mum was getting one and I honestly thought she had got the name wrong.

Mokka……Mokka…….Mokka, no still doesn’t make sense.

But Vauxhall do make a car now called Adam…….

I’m gonna get one of them cheap B Twin bladders in the meantime anyway if they do send my Antidote off.

Any idea if you need the till receipt ? I got it from Decathlon it was in a small backpack which I sold on E Bay and just kept the bladder as I’ve a HAWG N V so the receipt will be for the backpack but I’ve no idea where it is.

    I’ve heard of this before.

Think it was one of them fly on the wall cheap to make TV shows where they stick a Cameraman in the back of a Police car and flims for a week.

Sure it was a simple rear end shunt and a lady stopped and sat a teenage girl in her brand new Impreza. Paramedics came along and said they had to cut the roof off the Impreza 8O

What would you tell your insurance ? Remember the lady being a bit upset to say the least……

I’ve got to agree with all the other comments about the Driving Instruction.

I’ve been doing it since March 2008 and its not easy to make a decent buck. It’s crap hours and a nightmare being out there in the dark and rain with a beginner pupil.

But apart from that I love it. It suits me as I’ve been very lucky to have a House passed down to me by Mum and the hours can be tweaked to suit riding and days off.

I could not afford a mortgage on it though as its simply too unreliable on the income side. The unsociable hours also played a big part I’m me splitting with my Girlfriend.

At the moment, I’m also doing some classroom teaching occasionally, and the odd bit of Fleet and Instructor Training which can be more reliable income.

If you are worried about rust, just use some primer and topcoat on the wheel arch as he door looks like it needs replacing anyway.

We have all done things like this. In all my years living here I’ve had loads of different vehicles from cars to big vauxhall vans and never bumped anything in the street till a couple of years ago when I was reversing and my ( now ex ) girlfriend said ” oh look, Gemma’s there ” pointing to a neighbour and waving at which point I bashed my next door neighbours Micra.

Embarrassing as I’m a Driving Instructor and have never lived it down since

Northern are fine about bikes as I’ve used them a few times when I’ve bonked out and bailed it to get home.

Like has been said, just don’t sit down. Mind you with most passengers on trains, you would want to stand guard against your bike stop it being nicked.

I personally wouldn’t care a bit about muddy tyre marks inside as all the northern trains I’ve been on are filthy anyway.

I take it you mean the current Fiesta ?

Even if I had a proper road bike I wouldn’t wear the replica kit as I think you would need the Correct bike, like a Dogma 2, and the full deal not to look silly.

I’ve a couple of Team Sky T shirts as I think they look good and I like Adidas stuff, but I’m not going to jump straight in and buy the Rapha T shirts.

Do they have the ‘runabouts’ sideline? I rang them about an MX5:” what’s the mileage” “low mate” “ok what is it?” “50k”
“That’s not really low for an mx5 of that age” “is low miles for us, we have focuses with 130k on the clock its a low miles car” “it’s not a focus though is it? Are the sills rotten” “no” drive to see it on the off chance, sills rotten. Salesman hides behind the ‘runabout’ branding “its just a runabout really… “

This just reminded me of an incident I had at a local used car dealership around the corner from me. I was walking the Dog when I spotted a MK3 Golf GTI on the forecourt.

It’s was a bit overpriced but thought I’d have a look for a weekend car. Over comes mr salesman ” one lady owner, shopping only, best in country, no rust anywhere”

When I pointed out the rust under the side rear window, he replied ” well it is 15 year old what can you expect” I resisted to call him any rude names and made my excuses and left.

Like I said I’ve no experience personally, but I’ve got VWs and they are very keen at VW headquarters about customer service
Considering the ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ attitude, disorganisation and generally being shite displayed by our local VW franchise (and by reputation others not much further away) I find that slightly jaw-dropping. Are you sure you don’t work for VW?

    Andy

No I don’t work in the Motor Trade anymore I’m in teaching now I just pointed out my experiences with VW dealers.

In the process of buying a new (to me) car from their new VW branch, have been decent so far, hassle free test drive. Hopefully it will continue.

Why would being female be a problem? It was a woman who took me out on the test drive and the salesmaness I was dealing with was also a lady.

Like I said I’ve no experience personally, but I’ve got VWs and they are very keen at VW headquarters about customer service so AC will not want to lose that Franchise.

Regarding Ladies, I used to be a Car Salesman and thank god the place went bust as I hated it. THe attitude of the Salesmen was awful to the Female customers and they always saw it as a easy sale.

Might be different these days but one things for sure, that company I worked for deserved to go bust.

Legally both parts of a Driving Licence make up the Licence, one part is useless without the other, so I can understand him saying that.

As for AC I’ve no experience personally, but a Friend of mine went looking for her first car with her Mum. My first thoughts where here we go, they are going to take the mick being a young girl with her Mum.

Sure enough she asked for a specific car, think it was a Corsa in White she wanted, and they didn’t have any, offered her a black one which she didn’t want.

She than asked for a Fiesta in White, again they said they didn’t have one and you can’t get them anywhere, ( which I proved to her wasn’t he case when I took her to the Ford dealer who had 3 ) and they just kept pushing the cars they had I stock, despite her not wanting any.

They rang her at least daily till she finally told them to …. Off.

I’ve no intentions of buying a carbon road bike, but I have a Thule rack on the old Polo and can understand how clamping the tube could damage it.

Just wondered how the pros attach the bikes to the team cars in races ? Guessing its a stupidly big rack that fastens the frame or something ?

Tesco are now charging £3 for the 26″ inner tube, all the other sizes are still the same prices.

Wonder if its a post Xmas price hike due to them selling loads of BSO’s ?

Any other ideas on cheap tubes apart from Poundland ?

I nipped out down some old railways yesterday and its never been such hard work, the mud is like PVA Glue.

Was worn out by time I’d got home. Did 15 miles but felt like double that. Was good fun though…

Try a memory foam pillow – I’ve had loads of car crashes when younger, and my neck is now very vulnerable to not sleeping correctly.

Had a crash few years ago when someone hit the back of our car on a roundabout and I eventually went to a chiropractor and found out I’d twisted something on my neck.

Then onto weeks of a guy 6 ft tall by 6ft wide with hands like shovels pulling and firing a popper gun into my back and neck. Cost £500 quid, but got me sorted and the other guys insurance paid eventually.

First thing would be doctors, see if you can get an x ray, then try the chiropractor. It’s amazing how even a small impact or jolt can twist something.

Through Bolton, down the Canal past the Mecchano Bridge into Radcliffe, down the old Railway to HTN land, forest bank, back home along the roads.

30 mile in total ( more in fact coz I nip to Halfords before getting the Garmin out ) was knackered when I got home
