Think it may be Great Hill towards Withnall ?

Bet it don’t look as good at the moment as it does in the Video

Agreed scuttler Forton / Lancaster is unique.

Think they use it as storage now because at one time, Boardmans Recovery used the Tower as their control centre when they had the big AA and RAC contracts

Didn’t it have a moving floor or have I dreamt it ? Think they closed due to fire regs or some other H & S reason ?

Oh I’ve just remembered Blackburn services on the M65.

Not totally bad, but you kind of have to go through an Industrial Estate to get to it and there’s a Driving Test centre on the same estate so you get stuck behind learners trying to emerge onto what is basically a motorway roundabout.

Think they have a Mcds and a newsagent and a petrol station.

    Bolton services is now Rivington

    http://www.eurogarages.com/rivington-services/

Stop there regular, especially when coming back from Rivi on the bike as there’s a route through the services.

I remember going into that one on the M61 and finding a guy charging his phone in the toilet using an adapted shaver plug, I’m sure he was sleeping in the cubicle 8O

It’s really nice now that Euro have taken over and spent millions on it.

Think it was Burton in Kendal I went to a while back that was just in dire need of a refit in the loos.

I’ve just seen it on Bolton MRTs Twitter feed, they posted a picture looks like its at the back of the mast or top of San Marino.

    Hope for a speedy recovery.

Anyone got a Norco bike ? Bit of Googling says they are a Canadian brand and have a good rep with MTBs

    Why pick Bolton ?
We live here :D, we didn’t have trailers, we all had help for heroes tops on though.

Must have been another group then.

I live in Bolton as well. Where do you ride ?

206 miles! No kidding. Last year a few of us organised a charity ride from Edinburgh to bolton. We picked the end of June for the most daylight. Unfortunately it was raining with a southerly all the way. It blew us to a standstill coming down shap!!

    Why pick Bolton ?

Seriously though, did you guys have trailers and a Scottish flag ?

I remember seeing some guys coming into Bolton last summer 8)

    Spoon +1

To be honest, I only bought one because it matched the bike better  but its been brilliant, really comfy even on long distances.

Got one on my runabout bike as well and did 40 miles couple of weeks back which is a lot for me, but was fine.

The one on my MTB is wearing a bit but I think this with the baggy shorts rubbing but its been used loads over nearly 2 years.

+1 for the Oakley Outlets if you have one nearby.

I got a pair of Polarized Jupiters last year which I use at work for £55 reduced from £145.

But like any outlet place its hit and miss as to what they have in stock.

I’ve done it once and drove away within the hour but it was for a £250 car 10 years ago as I was about to lose my job and company car and just needed wheels.

Quickly drove it, offered £250 ( it was priced £295 ) and rang my boss to put it on the trade insurance to get it home.

Never done it with anything dearer as it normally involves haggling and snagging and a full MOT

When it snowed bad a few weeks ago, I heard an engine outside screaming at full revs.

Curious, I looked out to see a Asda delivery driver ” crabbing ” up the road, using the kerb to bounce off in a vain hope to get traction.

He missed a line of parked cars by inches.

Just found it on the OS map and yeah it’s called Great Hill, thought it was its nickname

Smack me down with a bunch of grapes, but I’m thinking even Great Hill and the long descend down to White Coppice might be a goer at the moment. Think that might be plan ‘A’..

I’ve always heard of Great Hill, can anyone tell me where it is ?

Guessing its at the back of Blue Lagoon, other side of Rivington Road than the Mast ?

    Cheers

we were out last night, the reservoir single track was great, fast and dry
Where is this singletrack you speak of?

Guessing its from the Liverpool Castle to Rivi Village by the Primary School round the back of Go Ape.

Go down the Bridleway next to the Car Park opposite Rivi High School and follow the Reservoirs round.

Its a really good track even in a foot of snow 8O

Had the BBBBLLLLLAAAAAHHHHH out of the window of a chavs Corsa, used to scare me but get used to it after a bit.

Had the wolf whistles out of a canal boat of drunken women so I stopped and asked them to get their **** out 8)

Stopped and helped a load of drunken women on said same canal as one of them had collapsed and got a kiss of about 6 of them when the Ambulance had arrived. I left as the Paramedic was looking scared of them……….

Been egged by some chavs in a Fiesta. Didn’t know till I got home and took my Camalbak off.

I changed at 30 and started my own business. It’s not easy, and the money’s not brilliant but better than I got in my last job but it gives me freedom to work more or less when I want.

Suppose I’m just lazy but I now prefer to work to live not the other way round.

Like everyone, there’s good and bad days, but most of the time I enjoy work so much I can’t believe I get paid for doing it.

That sounds like its illegal lol it’s not I run a Driving School and love seeing the pupils develop skills and having a laugh with them.

I was down on the trails near Philips Park near the old viaduct the other day, and there’s signs of alcohol being drunk on top of the viaduct.

Mind you, I wouldn’t go off road in the dark on my own anyway. On the few occasions I have it’s always resulted in a mechanical or puncture so guess its an omen trying to tell me something

Going back to the Sat Nav positioning, it amazes me how some people don’t remove pay and display stickers and flyers left under the wipers.

They can be blocking or at least distracting vision.

UU go round in the dead of night listening to pipes with a stick to detect leaks.

About 14 years ago, we received a similar letter and they sent a contractor out to fix the leak FOC

Don’t know if it always is FOC though.

    +1 for Merlin.

Only dealt with them in the shop, but they always have time to advise and have a chat about your requirements.

Also CRC, had a few delays / damaged stuff with my first orders, but they have always sorted things out quickly.

Get there earlier and go to Appleby Bakery, bit pricy but really good pies.

On a more sensible sit down idea, there’s a few Pubs in Appleby and I think there’s either a Chinese or Indian restaurant.

Not too sure as I only go at Fair time and missed last years.

I went out and did just shy of 30 miles this afternoon, new Gore wind stopper trousers over the top of 3/4 bib tights, merino base layer, fleece and waterproof on top and a balaclava under my helmet, was toasty and quite enjoyed it.

    * grabs shopping list and heads out to Evans ready for tomorrow *

Sounds like good layering gonna have to give the Windproof stuff a try for definite.

Done 22 miles on the MTB this afternoon and the trails are mint, rock hard and almost dusty.

Was nearly crying at some points with the cold, despite having more layers than an onion and having my jeans with over trousers on ( I know  )

Got in an hour ago and can just about feel my toes now.

Planning a Road ride to Blackpool tomorrow so better get some thicker socks I think.

Like everyone else has said, the 2.0 can be a ticking timebomb compared to the 1.9

My mate got a 2.0 and its oil pump went. Absolute nightmare. Parts were not available, but he luckily tracked down a engineer who rebuilt his engine with a modified oil pump.

Still cost about 2k even with us and another mate taking the engine out.

Strangely enough, when the car was sat outside with no engine, he received a letter from VW asking him to take it in to have the injectors replaced FOC under recall so its worth checking if its been done already.

It’s a cracking car though and he’s going to keep it for a while hopefully.

Oh and these days 80k over 7 years is nothing. I’ve a 2 1/2 year old Fiesta with 67k on it.

    Got a few, all memorable.

Doing the Guild Wheel last summer on one of the few nice days we had was good.

Going down the Ice Cream Run & meeting up with a Discovery coming up was unexpected…….

Descending from Darwen Tower, going round a bend, losing it and crashing into a bush…….

Seems like the Police Officer overtook whilst you where level with the oncoming Cyclist.

Ridiculous thing to attempt. He either didn’t see you, which is unlikely because the Drivers side of the BMW was visible before the MR2 overtook as he / she was already wider than the MR2, or just wasn’t paying attention.

I would not be happy if that happened to me.

Kwik Fit set fire to my neighbours car once whilst just having an MOT. I can’t remember exactly what happened but he came to me telling me to tell everyone I know not to use Kwik Fit.

My experience of any ” fast fit ” type garages is to know exactly what you need doing and stand your ground. Difficult when you don’t know much about cars, I’d probably the same with the bike, but they will tell you the vehicle needs this and that.

My local mechanic used to work at Halfords Autocentre and put it this way, I’m glad the leasing company do their own servicing now rather than use Halfords.

Wonder if anyone can confirm, but aren’t Fire Engines limited to 60 mph ?

I remember a while ago doing 70 mph on the Motorway and catching one up that was on blues and it felt awkward to pass it, even though I wasn’t speeding.

I chickened out and reduced my speed to stay behind it, but just wondered if anyone knows if its illegal to overtake a emergency vehicle in these circumstances when you can go faster than it without breaking the speed limit ?

Had heated windscreen on 2 of my cars and haven’t got it on my current car due to Ford changing the specs and the leasing company wanting loads more money for a Zetec spec over a Edge.

It was easy but I don’t really miss it. Takes only bit more effort to scrape the screen and scraping also cleans all the dirt of the parts the wipers don’t touch.

Suppose its like people putting blankets over the windscreen only, you still have to scrape the sides and seems more effort to open a door, trap the blanket in, open other door, trap blanket in……..
