Depends how far you go towards little hulton

I’ve never had a problem with anyone and I normally get on at parsonage road / tynebank and head towards manchester, but yeah it would be the main thing I’d worry about.

Sometimes get teenagers hanging around at the Winton end but they just keep themselves to themselves.

    + 1 for using route 55

Like has been said, it’s mainly solid all the way to Winton, then follow the road by the canal to Trafford park

I’ve done route 55 loads and it should be fine with mudguards through the odd puddle. Only thing was a few weeks ago United Utilities were doing some work which had narrowed the wide former double railway down to a gap the size of singletrack, fine for riding but a bit of a squeeze if meeting up with another cyclist.

I’d still rather put up with that than the A6

Perhaps have a reccy at the weekend ?

I’ve just been out locally for an hour just on some farm tracks with a few sprints up a steep hill and back round a few times, its brilliant out tonight.

Love the feeling in the throat when the cold hits when you are gasping for breath.

The moon was mint and I even slowed down and turned my lights off for a bit.

As good as summer ? Dunno I just love riding me bikes :D

Could do but it would have to have dual controls fitted that would cost about £300 even if I never use it for the school else the insurance would be invalid

I’ve just ordered a long sleeved supporters jersey, should be OK under my brightly coloured Gilet, good value at £29 posted.

Couldn’t wear it without it being covered over as I ride a B Twin Triban 3 with my Baggies and 5:10s on the standard toe clip pedals.

Could wear it on the MTB to make it look like I’m well into the dark side and not just riding a cheap road bike to keep the fitness up…….

Its a really difficult time for everyone involved. No one is equipped to cope.

My Nan is 92 and has good days and bad and has lost a lot of weight and had pneumonia a couple of weeks ago.

At the time she had pneumonia I honestly thought it was the time and I had to balance being with her and not being there too much as to worry her as to why I’m there a lot ( Hope that makes sense )

My thoughts are with you mate, just do what you feel at the time is the best thing.

    Keep us informed on here

Various animals out of sticky situations over the years working for an animal charity.

Once forced open a car door by pulling on the top frame with my feet on the rear door after two cars crashed and the women in one wasn’t badly injured but just wanted to get out.

Saved a dog from crossing a motorway and getting killed and some deer in the same situation, the deer can’t half vault over the central Armco 8O

Earlier today I flashed my lights to an old girl who have forgotten to switch her lights on, that’s got to have saved her life.

Washing the car 3 times a week
    I don’t believe you!

Not every week but at this time of the year I will clean it about 3 times a week, only takes 10 mins as I leave everything ready.

The cars my work so I like it being clean, gives a good impression 8)

Yeah cycling seems to confuse people.

Taking the Dog out at 1am as he refuses to pee in the yard.

Washing the car 3 times a week, well your office is cleaned everyday isn’t it ?

Wandering around the yard in my boxers whilst on the phone.

Winter riding is ace but don’t leave the bike muddied up for a week and expect the front mech to still work.

Snapped my shifter yesterday as the mud had gone like concrete.

I do worry about myself sometimes, stupid thing to do.

If it’s any consolation, I’ve had 3 students fail this week, all like yourself just one serious but they only had a couple of minors each.

All of them were first time attempts so fingers crossed for next time.

One didn’t stop completely at a stop sign, despite us doing it the night before, another tried going straight on in a right turn lane and nearly took a lady in a Megane out, the last completely zoned out and nearly crashed into a car that was turning right ahead of him 8O

All really good drivers on lessons so just proves that tests are stressful

Good luck for the next test

In my Fiesta Diesel, I cover about 30k with the majority of that pottering round town with a learner who is not the most mechanical sympathetic.

I can tell when it’s getting clogged up just by the way it drives as it comes a little less responsive so a run at 70 ( ahem ) down the motorway will clear it.

Touch wood, no lights have come on it but I wouldn’t have a Diesel if I didn’t need a car for work its just a Diesel is easier for the students to get used to and my mileage warrants it but anything less than 25 k I’d go for petrol.

Sad news, just got me crying and I’ve got a lesson in 10 mins.

My thoughts are with you all.

I tell my students to not expect the examiner to speak except to give instructions, some will make friendly small talk but some will just sit there and tell you what they need you to do.

In my opinion, the best passes come from just driving like you have done on your lessons and by not overthinking and panicking.

Remember you can have a minute to compose yourself if it gets too much and, if you make a mistake, head down and keep going as it may not be as bad as you think and could be marked as a Minor fault.

Is your instructor going out on test with you ?

Are you taking it in blackpool or preston ?

What tips has your instructor given you ?

I can give you some tips but don’t want to scare you

Only joking I can suggest some things but your instructor should have given you a few pointers.

A mate told me that retro fitting HID kits from a better model to a base model is causing vehicles to fail the MOT as they also have to have all the system fitted along with headlight washers.

Perhaps anyone on here you does MOTs will confirm ?

I’ve never seen fog lights with that connection ( H4 ) style.

Don’t fog lights run at same wattage as dipped headlights, round about 55w ?

I don’t have any Xmas decorations as there’s only me and I really can’t be bothered and the Dogs would destroy them anyway.

I just go round my mates and enjoy there decorations :D

My grandad bred spaniels and fed them chappie.

Can the rings be removed on this?

Yeah I got some last time they was on offer and it saved me some cash when my chainrings were needing replacement.

Only thing was the granny ring wouldn’t fit over my Hope BB when the lad at the LBS tried fitting them.

I’m glad I’m not the only one with the door OCD, I’ve even turned back to check not just the door but to check the dogs are safely in the kitchen as I’m on a main road and they will run out to meet me whilst I’m struggling to get the bike in.

Many a time I’ve got ready, out the door all kitted up, turned round and have left the bike in the front room, even left it at my mates after a cold night ride and didn’t realise till he was locking his door for the night

It’s working now its dried out, not impressed with this as I’ve had a Cat Eye on the MTB that’s been fine and this is playing up after just one wet road ride.

I’m going to have to see about putting some sealant on it or something.

On food and edible stuff about £70 a week just for me, I’m not a greedy so and so put have a nasty habit of buying food out instead of getting in and cooking.

Also got addicted to costa recently.

I can be more frugal, but I’ve been working long hours so just treat myself. When work gets quieter, I can drop that bill by half by buying at Aldi and taking buttes to work or eating a home at lunch.

Anyone out tommorow ( Thursday ) night ?
    Rivi, prestwich etc ?

Love to simmy but the wife’s got some sort of annual meeting or something

    No probs

I managed to get off work early just I’ve just been out on a local loop. Was a good sunset as well.

No wildlife apart from some guy walking his dog in the pitch black in the middle of the fields. Don’t know who was most surprised, him, the dog or me 8O

Just don’t venture off the sea front. We had to find a tescos for the nippers tea, and it is horrendous, even just 1 road back from the front. Tattoo parlours, cash converters and crack whores littering the streets

    + 1

Seriously, avoid anything off the Prom, especially Central Drive which is at the top of the road opposite Central Pier its a mess with all sorts of characters about.

If you do go for a walk, be wary of anyone hanging around, especially between the central and north piers, arcade wise coral island is the best with the central pier one as well, the others are full of scallies.

I love Blackpool and go weekly, as I’ve mates there who I have known since school, but the front is all razzmatazz with major depravation only a few streets back.

We are going next Saturday through the lights and its likely to be a nightmare with the traffic but I’ve a mates drive I can use as a back up plan for parking. When I go blackpool, I avoid all the places I’ve mentioned.

    Really good pictures.

Must get back up there soon, thought about nipping up yesterday but I would rather be out during the week when its a bit quieter.

Went up last week over anglezarke on the Roadie but wished I’d took the MTB as soon as I got up there…….

    Left lane – simple

The picture previously posted showed 2 lanes on exit but the OP is asking about a single lane exit.

Take it a basic 4 exit roundabout with exits at 9 12 & 3 o clock, left lane for left first exit (9oclock), the road ahead second exit ( 12oclock ) and right hand lane for third exit, ( 3oclock ) and to go full circle.

Where is the closure at anglezarke?

Its on the actual road, think its called moor road. Go past Healy Nab memorial forest on your left, don’t go upto the nab, go down to the gate on the road, turn right and its in the dip.

Looks like United Utilities are doing something to the resiviour so not a problem if out on the mountain bikes but can mess a road ride upto the tops up a bit.

Yeah the closure at anglezarke was passable last week as I went through on the roadie, bit mucky though so left the brakes a bit gritty.

Which road is it near the mast that’s up for closure ? The actual mast road ?

There’s a few cheekys to get round though….

Merlin’s website is one of the clearest around, hope they see this thread and take him off the mailing list.

They reckon they were the first bike shop to build bikes and not just sell parts according to the manager of our local branch.

I don’t know about that, but he got a bit shirty when I said ” you are making an effort to be a bike shop these days ”

He still offered to price match wiggle on a garmin touring though :D

    I’ve really enjoyed the series.

I don’t watch much telly but this has been great.

That young lad Ryan deserves a show of his own he is hilarious.
