Mega Traffic problems around here due to a Truck coming off the Motorway overnight, going down the embankment and exploding into flames in a Farmers field.

Just reopened now but it’s going to take a while to get back to normal traffic.

This just in from our team in the press room:
A witness told VTM that an older woman tried to cross the street and Vansummeren was unable to avoid a collision. Both Vansummeren and the woman were driven to the hospital. The woman seemed unconscious. The latest information came from Sporza where a doctor would have informed them that the woman is still alive but in critical condition.

The Lady was stood in the middle of the Road on a pedestrian island and the Peloton split into 2 to go either side of the central reservation and it seems that Vansummeren was unsighted of the island and just ploughed straight into it and the lady.

There’s a Video on You Tube but it’s not very nice so I’m not linking to it.

    Hope she recovers.

Good question Jamie, I’ve never watched before.

That Trek rider went down with a Bang. Where are the cars ? Just members of the Public trying to help him who may do more harm than good.

Has that Garmin – Sharp rider took a Spectator out ?

As Jamie said, they were on the floor with his Bike on them and weren’t moving 😯

The Lad went into a Takeaway and the Chavs were praying for the lights to change as they were getting stick from everyone who heard what they said 😀

Serves them right for being rude to people. They moved off like a Formula 1 driver when the lights went Green 😆

I was stopped at some lights in the car earlier when a Lad walked across the Road who was very feminine looking.

Some Chavs in the Chavvy Astra next to us yelled ” are you a Man or a Woman ” obviously used to this kind of reaction, the Lad yelled back ” suck me **** and you will find out ” 😯

My Student and I just burst out laughing, along with some other guys who were outside a pub having a cig.

The Chavs looked absolutely gobsmacked. Top respect to the Lad for the comeback.

    Can it be done privately?

Certain Lloyds Pharmacies will do the test, I’m going to ring my nearest one tomorrow, will let you know what they say.

As said previous, my Doc said they don’t test for Cholesterol under the age of 40 but my Mate, who goes to a different surgery, has been tested and he’s only 29.

I’m 36 so I’m either going to have to keep annoying them or has anyone ever been to somewhere like Lloyds Pharmacy to have it done ?

Really concerned now despite loosing 2 1/2 stone over a few years.

Pic 2 Is a Aerial lead.

Check your radio still picks up a signal. If it does, it may have been a lead to an old hands free kit or simular.

Your pic 2 shows the lead going through the dash above the pedals whilst a Google image search shows the aerial on your car should be on the nearside so I can’t work out why the lead would be going across the offside.

Can’t help with the non running though sorry.

Had a few major hold ups over the years but the most memorable one was the M60 when I was working as a van driver.

It was one lunchtime and I was returning to Depot for the Afternoon run when the Matrix came on ” incident slow down ” oh well probably just a bent wing and door which is standard on the 60 between Trafford and the M61 but this time was different.

A car transporter was on fire on the hard shoulder and the diesel tank had split and the fuel was across lanes 1 & 2 which were on fire. Interesting. Police had not arrived and I honestly didn’t know what to do as the fire was spreading across the lanes. Stay or boot it before it covers lanes 3 & 4 ? Well the Police arrived just as I was going to boot it past and through their Jeep across stopping us from going.

They then back us up as far as possible from the fire. 4 hours before we were allowed through. Met some nice people that day, a Tesco driver who I had a Brew with, the transporter driver who told us he had gone over a mattress that was in the middle of the lanes which wrapped around his propshaft ( oh err ) then ripped the tank apart.

Watching the tanks of the cars explode as the fire got to each car on the transporter was interesting. Think about 11 cars got destroyed along with the transporter.

I knew about the hot water trick on paintwork, but didn’t think the glass would scratch and I had to get going to the next lesson so didn’t have time to get any hot water.

Drunken eBay purchase or family heirloom?

Either way, I feel there should be a story to go with this

Not even that interesting, I went to buy a UFO and this is all they had left.

I bought it direct from Blackpool Council back in 2008 when they were moving Depots and clearing out some old Illuminations, like I said, I wanted a UFO for the Garden but settled on this. Thought it may be worth some money in the future so just seeing what interest there is.

Gonna stick it on E Bay when I have chance to take some pics.

Halfords are knocking out Clarks stainless inner and a length of outer with ferrules for £1.99. Order online, pick up in store.

I picked up 4 of these the other week and the lad serving double checked the price as he didn’t believe they were that cheap.

    Bargain at the moment.

R.I.P my thoughts are with everyone affected.

I guess most of us on here are around the same age as Brian but I bet not many of us have done as much as he did.

I didn’t know him, but its tragic losing anyone.

As Nick said, I’d investigate where it goes before ripping it out.

I’d bet its an old Gaslight system, I’ve still got mine on the wall as a feature in my bedroom.

Guessing its an upstairs room ? They used to take a spur off the main Gas Pipe to a lamp that was lit to provide light.

We were so poor when I was growing up, I was 7 when we got lights in the upstairs. I’m 36 now so do the maths, probably 1985 ish when we had lights upstairs and I’m not joking.

Just looking on RX, the genuine Oakley lenses add around £150 to the cost are they really worth that much premium over ‘standard ” lenses ?

    What’s the difference ?

I was out today when a massive group of approx 30-40 riders came the other way.

They were taking up the entire side of the road and I wondered how anyone would get past on the road they were on.

Anyway, I went over the motorway bridge and found a chap with a puncture so asked if he was OK, apparently this massive ” peloton ” had come from behind him and barged him into the gutter where he had ripped his tyre on a grid.

He was just out on his own doing nothing wrong and reckoned he had just been pushed off the road.

I’ve never seen so many riders in a group without it being a pro race,

I got a Rec Triban 3 back in August and its my first road bike but I think its great. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money as I didn’t know if I’d like the riding position so got one of these.

It’s been a good bike. I’ve probably done only a few hundred miles, but it seems comfy enough and I did one ride of 67 miles without getting off and walking like John Wayne.

I have changed the tyres after an incident with a roundabout and the bike going from under me leaving me sat in the road, but the wheels seem ok but, to be honest, as long as they go round I wouldn’t know any difference.

Regarding the mudguards, yeah its tight. I mangaged to get these to fit without much grief

    http://www.merlincycles.com/sks-chromoplastic-mudguards-700c-road-55368.html

But I had the rear tyre catching on the guard where it meets the chainstay bridge so just warmed it up with a lighter and pushed it away with a spoon to give a couple of mm clearance. Like I said, its tight with the guards, so tight the rear skewer has to come out completely when taking the rear wheel off else it won’t clear the tabs.

My Mate has one and he uses it a lot, going away even at Xmas and is away most weekends in the Summer as well as the ” big ” summer holiday of a couple of weeks.

Its good value if you use them as much as he does.

I did a courses when I was 33 but it was only one morning per week. Really enjoyed it.

As a Driving Instructor, some of my students attended the same college and we used to all sit together at break time which let them see me in a different light.

When I was 16 and at college, there was a couple of older lads attending the same course and they got on great with us younger ones.

Only got out about 2.15 as I’d a few bits to sort out at home and dogs to walk. Did 24 miles on the MTB just on the old railways and few farm tracks on the way back.

It’s been a busy week with a couple of bad times so was nice to get out.

Think I’ve pushed it a bit too much on the climbs being stubbon and refusing to gear down, legs are sore now.

Does look good, I’m not doing the race but I would like to know more about the course as I’ve rode round there loads and never found any of the sections they are posting on twitter.

    I really can’t understand these E Bikes.

I guy I know, who’s a bit of a nutcase has one and he bombs round everywhere annoying motorists by blasting off at lights racing them.

On the rare occasions I have to talk to him ( he’s a neighbour ) he told me he tried racing a BMW away from some lights whilst turning right. As the power hub is on the front, he accelerated too hard and straight lined into some railings.

Would have loved to have seen that.

As above, on the Fiesta :-

Indicators that cancel if you move the steering a tiny bit in any direction, mean reapplying upto 3 times depending on the angle of approaching a junction, especially if a vehicle is parked close and you have to steer round it.

Green light to shift up on Fords.

    Cheers lads

Yeah I was thinking of contacting them about it. I got talking to a lady back in the summer who, I guessed, was a Sustrans volunteer as she was going on about all the new signage that she had put up.

On their website, they just say route 55 when completed so guessing its still a work in progress.

    simmy

They are good but the local one to me, route 55 between Chorley and Salford is signed completely randomly and just stops.

There’s a section along a disused railway that just leads to some steps with no signage and towards Salford, two separate routes use the same signage, one along the canal and one along two disused railways.

Whether signs have been installed and stolen or damaged, I don’t know but it’s very hit and miss, one section on the online map is about 3 miles away from the signed route and is on an old railway that is under 6ft of water.

Go to Merlin around 4.30 – 5pm and see the Royal Mail truck turn up, its one of them 7.5 tonners and the lads are waiting with cages of items ready to load on and ship out.

I’ve also seen DPD and UPS there as well. They seem to have a good system. Probably helps that a massive Royal Mail depot has just opened on the approach road to Merlin on Buckshaw……..

Yeah I live on the route and its chaos.

Takes about 2 hours for everyone to filter through. Its for the Christie so its a brilliant cause, but the issue is regular riders mixing with people who just want a go, I think.

Causes faster riders to get impatient and do daft things. The Night ride for BHF is getting popular as well.

Standing at the side of the road at 1 am with hundreds of bikes coming down the hill 1/4 mile away was an awesome sight.

Manchester to Blackpool on a MTB should be off road to Preston by law 😀 I’ve done the ride to Blackpool a few times on the MTB and it’s alright, just easier in the Road Bike.

One of my mates reversed into a fire engine. Apparantly he’d stopped for some fags on way work, got back in the car, started engine and dropped his lighter.

Whilst digging his lighter out from beneath the seat the firemen parked behind and went into the shop. Matey reversed without looking despite him spending a minute or so digging his lighter out. His excuse ” wasn’t there when I got back into my car ”

One of my students bought her first car. On driving home being supervised by her mum it started snowing. She came to a mini roundabout and, because of the snow, the other traffic had gone over the white circle leaving tyre tracks.

Instead of using her common and doing the same because of the weather, she steered around the white circle which, on this roundabout is tight at the best of times and slid off the road and into a lamppost.

That was my fault for teaching her correctly to go round the circle of mini roundabouts when possible.
