    Try Adrian Flux

They mirrored my NCD when I insured the Van

Also how about putting the NCD back on the Ibiza and putting the Boxster on Cherished / limited mileage insurance if that’s suitable ?

+1 what Tom B said, I work for myself and I really like the isolation of not having anybody around.

Some other people in the same line of work are meeting up ( I think ) but I’d rather be in my own.

I’m planning a night out starting in the pub for a 2 course Xmas dinner, onto the Casino for a bit then onto the Strip Club 😀

On my own, leave when I want, do what I want. Excellent.

I’ve done IAM and our local group defiantly didn’t allow speeding.

It’s very useful. I’m a Driving Instructor and the training I’d received wasn’t half as good on planning etc as the IAM course.

Their are some right pompous so and so’s on the group, but go with an open mind and you will learn lots.

The Diamond test the OP linked to is more DVSA based i.e. Indicating all the time whereas the IAM is indicating if there are other road users to benifit from your signal. That really does raise your awareness…….

    not including commuting
Why not? Some of my best rides have been on my commute this year.

I’m just trying to get an idea of how to juggle work to find time to ride the bike for ” just a ride ” no particular destination

The company I did my offshore survival with in Aberdeen had an onsite rule that you had to reverse into a parking space, so that no one was reversing out into traffic or pedestrians. I thought ’twas was a good idea, could see quite a few folk struggling with it though!.

I think British Gas has the same rules for their engineers no matter where they are, they have to reverse into a bay.

Reversing round a corner is a PITA and pointless. Turn in the road is useful.

The corner reverse requires the candidate to reverse 2-3 car lengths into the side road to clear the junction, who would do that in real life they would just get the back end in then drive off.

Motorways will never be part of the test as some areas are nowhere near motorways and the test has to be consistent. There was talk of us being allowed on motorways with students, but that was dropped with a change of transport minister.

I would review mine same as Houndlegs.

I’ve upgrade mine to OS maps which is miles better than the base maps that came with it but I just create / download a route on Garmin Connect and follow it.

I find the round route option rubbish and, no matter what I’ve tried, differentiating between MTB and Road bike is impossible for it and it just sends you the same way.

The Postcode search is OK but I tried it set to Off Road ( mtb ) going from Bolton to Manchester and it took me via Rivington which is completely the wrong direction.

Mine also crashed and switch itself off two thirds of the way through a 60 mile ride which I was following a route on which was annoying as I lost all data but I’ve since updated online and it’s been fine since.

I’ve never tried another GPS so, like Houndlegs, I’m sitting on the fence regarding recommendations.

Next house will have a driveway and/or garage, mark my words.

Around here that’s not copper bottomed that you will be able to park up as I’ve often got some selfish person come along and park across the gates and my mates always having it happen as well.

I’ve now resorted to moving the Van and Car around so that the Gates are always blocked by one of my Vehicles so I can actually get to work.

As far as I know that’s correct, a UK provisional overrides a international permit.

I’m a Driving Instructor though not a cop.

As an aside, the police/councils should buy whatever CCTV camera that lady was using. Pretty good quality.

The text of the writing on the Date etc looks the same as my Swann system. They are good quality as it allowed me to rewind the system last night to find which scrote allowed his Dog to do its business on my Doorstep

Had a T16s on a F plate that was originally spec by that guy Al fayard bloke who owns Harrords for one of his senior managers. Think it had a receipt of something stupid like £25 k as original bill of sale back in 89 😯

There are loads around here with tributes to Paul Walker on there cars mainly they say ” Dude I almost had you ” Paul Walker 1970 whatever – 2013

I can kinda understand them wanting to pay their respects, but Paul Walker didn’t say that line it was his character Brian in Fast and Furious

One of my Students has been working at Sports Direct for a few Months and tells of wierd customers and daily shoplifting.

When She started, She was given one shirt and one pair of trousers for her uniform. She was told that’s all She was allowed.

Back in the Summer, the Staff had to buy their own Shorts as it was roasting in the Shop.

She actually didn’t mind the job too much but has just got a Office job as its contracted hours.

I live on a main road with Traffic Lights right outside my door.

Earlier this Year, I got a New Washing Machine and dragged the old one outside and left it on the corner in case a scrap van came past.

Went back in, locked the Gate, went to the shop and came back literally 3 mins later and it had gone.

I’m not arguing as I wanted rid. They are constantly going up and down our road.

I scrapped a couple of cars as well back in the Summer and, when I had the gates open they were constantly pulling up asking if they could take them away despite me explaining I had already arranged collection from another firm.

    What’s wrong with Shap ?

Never lean on them new style Keep Left bollards when clipped in at lights, yep they are spring loaded so they go under Vehicles that hit them.

Clean your BMX and forget to tighten the front wheel up.

Pull a wheelie on said BMX with Mate stood on rear stunt pegs.

    Escort Van

There’s just Me so I don’t need Rear Seats so I can get the Bike in, tilt and fold the Passenger seat forward and sleep in it.

Gave a Grand for it, looks good for a old Van and does 50 MPG

As far as I know with Vans, they have to have the EXACT same bodyshell as the Car they are based on to have the Car speed limits.

So a Fiesta Van, which is basically a 3 door Fiesta but with no rear side windows, will have Car limits whereas a old Combo or my Escort will have lower limits as it’s just the front that shares the panels with the Car.

I looked at loads of vans before settling on my cheap van.

From 3 – 4 k, even then they were battered and I saw one that had had cement mixed up the rear and not cleaned up and a Transit that had been out on Community Payback that had drawings of really rude things scratched upto the underside of the roof.

I only spent a £1000 on my van and I should have known better as it was either MOTd by Stevie Wonder or David Blunkett.

Driving tests now are very different to how they were 10 or more years ago

    That’s correct.

A lot of my Students Parents haven’t got a clue what’s involved in the modern test.

In 1999, they were made a bit longer, they now take roughly 37 mins. Around 2010, they introduced Independent Driving were the Student has to follow Traffic Signs or a pre planned diagram for 10 mins instead of the usual ” turn left, turn right ” as a result they only do 1 reversing exercise.

The Car Safety questions are easy but does add to the stress for some students.

Students passing these Days are a lot more Independent in their decisions than I was when I passed 20 years ago.

Pass Plus is still going but I’ve not done one for about 18 months as I don’t really push them and everyone promises to get in touch to do it then they get a car and never go head with Pass Plus.

BSM have driving simulators in some of their offices which is a cheaper and stress free way of learning some of the basics. Not totally sure i recommend it- it’s all a bit weird- but I guess it was useful for me as I didn’t have to waste any time pissing about in an actual car. They were terrible as a school mind

I don’t think BSM have any Offices anymore, at least near Me they don’t.

How many lessons ? Enough for you to be able to drive without any instruction.

Could be anything from 20 – 45 hours ( not lessons as some are 2 hours……)

I’m a Driving Instructor and I send my Students to test when I can just sit next to them and pretend to be a Sat Nav literally saying left, right etc. Quickest I’ve had is 3 hours ( ex car thief ) longest 105 hours ( gobby 17 year old girl who thought the world owed her something )

My average is about 35 – 40 hours from complete beginner.

Oh and if you want cheap insurance, sell that Corsa 😉
