Getting the hours in due to lack of daylight as everytime I’ve gone off road in the dark on my own, something has gone wrong with the bike.

So I just ride round the streets in town.

    In 2009, I paid £1495 for a 1997 Polo with around 47 k on it.

That was 12 years old at the time and was about £500 more than most other Polo’s out there.

One owner, FSH but the clutch went on it the Day after. The dealer and I came to an agreement over the cost of that.

The Polo is still going strong with 89k on it and has flown through its MOT’s, think it’s had over the years that clutch, an exhaust, battery, pads etc just usual stuff.

I had to replace the wiper motor last year as the drain holes were blocked and, with the car being parked on a slant, the wiper motor was permently in a bath of water when parked up.

Slight hijack but this has given me ideas for doing a removable conversion on the escort.

Do camp sites just allow you on in a van and let you kip in it or do you have to pitch a tent and pretend you are sleeping in that ?

Sounds like the best of both worlds but what to wear ? Lycra or Baggies ? 😉

I can’t remember the last time I drove a petrol apart from nipping out in mums 1997 Polo as I’ve had Diesel cars and Vans.

No question for the OP, use Diesel but I’m just wondering if anyone has took any of these small 3 cyl Turbo petrols upto big mileage ie 100 k + yet or have they not been around long enough ?

Just thinking about longevity, I may be old fashioned, but 1.0 back when I started driving couldn’t do more than 75 mph and needed a calender for 0-60

I’ve not rode the route but I did a ride last summer from Settle that started out on part of the route and there’s a really steep hill.

I nearly turned back as it was roasting hot and it nearly wiped me out. It was because I wasn’t expecting it so, if you know what’s coming up, you will be fine.

The first bit will be your fastest if you go west to east as no one wants to be in Morcombe longer than they have to be 😉

Girl near me has a Citreon C3 reg something like DE** DOH so she has a picture of homer after the DOH 😀

Her mate told me the car just came with that as standard.

How does it work if you’re self-emplyed?

    Are the costs ‘allowable?’

Comes off your Tax Bill as it’s seen as a Business Expense.

I lease a Fiesta 1.4 tdci for £267 per month. That’s dear compared to most but it’s for a Driving School, comes with the Dual Controls and Ive a mileage allowance of 30 k per year.

Included as well is servicing and tyres which wear out, not damaged by Students.

Comes back later the same day and shows me said item of clothing at half the price we are selling it for (already £15 below rrp) on a large online retailers website on his phone. So I do the usual thing and check on our PC to make sure it is the same item and in stock on the other website.

When I searched it came up at the exact same price as we are selling it on the website he showed me. He then wouldn’t show me his phone. When I said can I see it again and just paid for it and left. So I’m not sire but think he might have edited a screen shot or something to try and get me to price match a made up price… Which would not have happens as would have been about a 20% loss on the item anyway.

I’ve heard of stuff like this before. Last summer I went onto Lancaster services and Moto, who own the station, have a App that gives different discounts each day.

This Day it was 20% off Costa or simular. The Lad in Costa double checked the offer as they had previously had customers taking screenshots of offers from previous Days and trying to get the discounts.

I’ve only ever ridden one FS and that was an old GT my mate had.

    Put me off TBH

Hardtails only for me as I’m only a pootler anyway so a FS would be overkill.

Do those toe clips not unbolt ?

On my Triban they do but mines the older version.

Might get some new calipers then.

Probably another daft question but will any fit and be OK with the levers or do levers have different pull ratios ?

Thanks again for all the replies.

    Thanks for the replies.

Looks like new pad inserts and cables are the way forward. I’m going to go for the swissstop green.

What cables are suitable ? I’ve some Jagwire outer already so if that’s OK I could just get some new inner ?

    Cheers

cynic-al » most stuff is half price tho now priced according to its quality.
I’ve bought some basic MW clothing in the past. Lightweight trousers, T-shirts etc. It’s been OK. I wouldn’t buy something like a rucksac though.

    +1

I’ve a jacket that’s fine for walking the Dogs etc but would spend more on Rucksacks

Go into a lower gear then, as the car slows to 5 – 10 mph, pull the handbrake up that should stop you 😉

    Starving.

Just got back from a breezy 25 mile road ride.

I was in bed for 11.40 last night after having a small Jack D & Coke and loads of Pepsi Max. That’s only second drink I’ve had all Xmas.

In answer to the questions above reference giving up alcohol, it was the best thing I’ve done. Those 2 drinks I had over the holidays will be the last till my birthday in April. It got to the stage where I was drinking every night and not just a pint or 2, I was on the whiskey.

My mate christened me the Exorcist as I made all his spirits disappear 😀

I just hit it on the head and stopped completely. Pepsi Max is my tipple now. Boring I know but I feel so much better.

Happened to me when my mate dropped a new kitchen off for me, opened the doors of his van and some screws fell out. Didn’t spot them as it was dark.

    Really annoying.

Just to add to what has already been suggested, change the tyres.

I had original tyres on my Triban 3 and they left me sat in the middle of a roundabout with a tipper truck coming at me, changed them for Michelin service course grip.

Mudguards, I fitted SKS which are bloody tight but good. Main issue was on the bridge between the chainstays as the bolt there would just not sit straight and the guard rubbed the tyre. In the end I warmed the guard with a lighter and gently pushed it clear with a teaspoon just to give it a few mm clearance.

They are that tight I have to take the rear skewer out to clear the mech when taking the wheel off but it works.

Regarding the brakes, have you set the lever thing on the caliper back pointing down ?

Had a issue with the van ( escort ) not starting when it started getting colder and it flattened the battery trying.

Changed that and it was still struggling so changed the glow plugs and, touch wood, it’s been fine since.

If I was in you situation, and the battery wasn’t going flat trying to start, I would change the glow plugs and take it from there.

What do people think of this turbo from halfrauds?

I’ve got one and it does the job.

There are adjustable resistance levels and it’s easy to set up and store.

It’s my first turbo so I’ve no experience of using another but it’s ok for a quick spin if time / weather is against you.

Still hate the things though, rather get wet and cold on the MTB than use the turbo personally.

I had only one dog till 18 months back, he’s a collie cross who is now about 14 I’ve now got two labs as well.

The older collie cross has really come to life having the labs around and is more lively now than he’s been for a long time.

I think dogs are better with another as they are pack animals.

    Just get out.

I quickly realised not to rely on Mates, not because they don’t care but, like you said, most are busy with families etc.

Join a Gym or simular where you can go and not feel out of place. It should be all about you now, no one else.

I’m on my own 90% of the time, seeing my Mate 2 – 3 times a week and I honestly don’t mind one bit. I don’t think I could cope without the few hours a week I spend at his with him and his missus and daughter though as being on your own 100 % of the time would be awful.

Fill you head with dreams of the future and what you can do without anyone nagging.

Good luck with whatever decision you take and keep in touch with us all on here. If I remember you are in Darwen, I’m only in Bolton so there’s loads of us on here nearby who could meet up for a ride out or something.

I’d have used the Right hand lane for the 3rd exit.

Just had a look on Streetview, and the 3rd exit is Signposted ” superstore ” and on the sign is not at 12 o clock, more of a 1 o clock.

She’s in the wrong totally and I would fight it tooth and nail. Who turns left from a right lane ?!?!?!?!?

Depends what it’s been used for.

Round here, in Greater Manchester, they have loads of CID Corsas, Fiestas etc and Crime Scene use Connects so these would probably be worth a punt as they seem to just be driven normally.

Anything that has been marked up would be more of a risk IMO.

My Goddaughter is 27 months but I’ve just got Her one of these for Xmas

    http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/small-fry-toddler-helmet-ec043577

She has tried it on in the Shop and my Mate said its fine on Her. It’s got the proper retention dial at the back and looks like a Adults helmet only smaller.

This reminds me of my Great Uncle who lived in the end house of a terrace of 4 and his access through the rear of the property was through a small pedestrian tunnel and through 3 other back yards.

All the neighbours were fine about it but, even as a Child, it always felt wierd to Me to be going through someone’s Yard when She was hanging the Washing out.
