nbt speaks the truth. Y’cant whack pea wet on yer babbies yeds.

    Too right.

    Translation from northern talk :-

Babbies Yed = Steak or Steak and Kidney pudding
Chip Barm = chips in bread
    Special = potato scallop

Pea wet is called Soup at the chippy near my mates dads in Bolton. When I was skint starting my business up, I lived on chips, soup and scraps every lunchtime, cost £1

When I was a delivery driver one of the other lads played fuel light roulette.

Stupid thing to do as we had fuel cards so he wasn’t paying but basically he thought he jump on the motorway with the fuel light on so he could get to a garage where he could claim nectar points 🙄

He ran out on the carraigeway, rolled down a slip road and stopped on the hard shoulder. Realising his massive cock up he tried to save the day by walking to a petrol station to get some diesel. When he eventually found one, bought a can, filled it with diesel and was returning to the van, our supervisor rang him as the customers hadn’t had their deliveries.

At this point he had to confess to which he got a right roasting off the office but nothing compared to when he got near the van and saw it being dragged away by a police recovery wagon……

It was took to a garage where they couldn’t get it started, burnt out the starter motor and he ended up with a bill for recovery, starter motor, fuel and the time of a colleague who had to come out and rescue him.

Seems people are taught how to pass the test rather than how to drive properly?

    Absolutely.

I teach as much as I can about real world driving, take students to different areas to get experience of different road layouts etc, but the test is only 38-40 mins long so how can that be ” driving for life ”

Some test routes around here don’t go above 30 mph and to get a student upto 70 mph before test I would have to travel 20 miles though 2 towns to get to a location that allows that legally.

On the other hand there is a 40 mph road right near the test centre that is really bendy and narrow and the examiners actually prefer the candidates to do 30 than 40 on that section.

I’d like to hear a driving examiner’s take on that one.

Our Examiners round here wouldn’t fail a candidate for 55 in a 60 they would, at worst, give them a minor.

50 in a 60, for a distance could fail them. A lot of it depends if the candidate sees a repeater sign then speeds up or if they sit a 50 in a 60 with a massive queue behind them…….

My Bikes and stuff involving them are the only things I really spend on.

    Tools – Park
    Clothing – Gore / Rapha
    Shoes – 5:10 ( including my everyday footwear……)
    Hope stuff
    Bikes – Orange

I don’t care what I drive, but my bike stuff has to have certain label.

Why would someone be driving driving on your tailgate if they aren’t trying to get past you?

Because they are idiots who are either texting, faceaching, instachatting or whatever they do and driving is the last thing on their mind.

+ 1 for a Astra not being the most practical of vans.

My Mum had one and I could barely get get the MTB in with the wheels on.

My mates got the sportive limited edition Astra van and it’s basically an estate car without windows.

“Could use it as a bargaining tool against a decent one though.”

Really ….. if you came at me using that as a bargaining tool id ask in what way it was comparable given it looks a bit shit.

Yeah, just tell them you have seen one advertised for X amount and pray that he’s doesn’t open the link 😀

Vans are more of a minefield than cars condition wise. When I was looking for a Van, even stuff at £ 4-5000 were full of dents etc. I still cring when I think of the graffiti in the rear of the Transit I looked at that had been used by the Community Payback team 😯

I’d walk away from the one in the OP’s link, that black paint is not standard, looks awful and could be hiding all sorts of nasties.

Could use it as a bargaining tool against a decent one though.

Did you get turned down by a car insurer already?

Aviva covered me for social & domestic for a reasonable price, joint policy with our car.

No, I’m a Driving Instructor so my car is on a School policy and that company only do Driving Schools.

The Autonet quote is still the best deal, just tried direct line and I stopped listening when I heard ” 1 thousand……” 😯

    Will try Aviva van insurance.

    Thanks.

I had the opposite once, mine was not being able to lock the house.

I was seeing a girl and we decided we wanted some quiet time alone 😉 I was living with my nan at the time and she was living with her uncle so either was a no go.

One of her workmates asked her to look after her flat over the weekend so, bingo, game on. The only issue was I had to drop the girl who’s flat it was off in Liverpool while she went off with a lad she had met.

Last thing my girlfriend said was ” don’t forget to bring the key back ” but yep I forgot and only realised the morning after when we were leaving for work. We had to leave it unlocked just praying that nothing went missing.

Never found out if anything did as the girl never spoke to me again. Don’t know if it was the key or my overnight performance 😳

Well on the back of this thread I had a ride over to New Brighton for a change from the usual Blackpool, Southport etc.

Blimey it’s changed for the better.

It was well busy as HtS said. Wayne Rooney and Coleen were there with the kids so it must have gone upmarket 😀

I think some ” retraining ” may have happened after Friday’s incident with the rolling road block.

I was up near blackstone edge yesterday watching and a couple of teams had set up a feed there.

They were a bit late getting going again and the police waited behind them for a minute or two.

I’m sure I had a call from these scammers a few years ago.

I thought it sounded dodgy so started quizzing them. I live in Greater Manchester and they kept saying Lancashire Police so told them straight if they are trying to scam, at least get some geography lessons 😀

OK, he’s mortgage free now but he’s blown the lot and now drives a minibus.
how much coke and hookers does 820k buy you

    About 12 years worth.

But seriously, I’ve not a clue what he’s done with it. Gambling maybe ? I may be boring, but if that was me and I had, won, or someone from Heirhunters knocked on with a Million quid, I’d make sure I’d never have to worry about money again.

Being mortgage free now helps but I’d rip the house apart, have it modernised and move into a smaller place and rent this one out.

David Millar said that Kittel ended up behind the rolling road closure.

I’m no expert in closing roads, but I’ve seen the Tour of Britain loads and it always seems faultless.

God knows what the members of the public thought seeing the Team Cars with 2 riders and a Motorcycle cameraman coming flying towards them. At one point, Kittel stretched his left arm out which I guess was telling the other rider to keep left.

They may have been as surprised as anyone.

I feel exactly the same, my Doctor recommended some counsilling but I’ve not gone for it.

I went to him thinking I was Depressed and he put me straight as I wasn’t.

Actually, I feel better since knowing I’m not depressed and I just ride with the bad days and look forward to the better ones.

Various 80’s & 90’s hot hatches now feel so unrefined but have such character.

I agree about the structural integrity. I saw a lad in a Fiesta RS Turbo a while back and he looked like he had squeezed himself in. It looked so much smaller than my 2 year old Fiesta.

Other character building late night rides back in the day…..

    Metro GTI
Citroen AX GT – I bought one for £100 for a laugh but some kids nicked it and drove it round the local BMX track 😯
Nissan Sunny GTIR – 160 mph on the speedo on the M62…..
    Pug 205 GTI

All had the strength of the bit of foil from under a meat and potato pie.

I’m not too sure about bikes but, when passing a car test, you have 2 years to send off for your licence.

Most students just allow the examiner to send it off but they have the option of keeping their provisional and sending for the full licence themselves. Saves forgetting, driving for 5 years then realising you have no licence when you try to find it when you want to hire a van to move house……..

Just ring the test centre. The number will be on the confirmation E Mail you got when you booked your test. It will say only ring if high winds etc, but they are usually really helpful with enquiries like this.

I’ve got a DAB radio in the van so can comment on the add on module but, when I was researching ariels, the opinions were to get a magnetic one.

I got one from Halfords and put it in the back of the roof and ran the wire through.

The reception is as good as the factory DAB in my car.

Be careful as that can be seen as ” fronting ” by insurances.

They have clamped down big style on young drivers going as named drivers on parents policies. The problems start if anything happens and they come out and see a, for example, Yaris or Clio with pink fluffy seatbelt covers girlie air freshener etc and the policyholder is a middle age married man 😉

They then figure out that it’s the girls car. Might be OK whilst she is learning, but be carefull when she passes.

It’s been discussed on here before.

Is this adding her to an existing policy, your car, or getting her the Peugeot or simular for herself to learn in and eventually insure as her own ?

If it’s her car, she will have to be the policyholder. That doesn’t matter if she is a provisional or full licence holder.

Quick 9 1/2 miler on the MTB just got back now.

Just a Pootle, stopped by the lake for a bit, nipped to Nans grave, then quick blast back through the park as the sun was setting and the local drunks were pitching up for the night 😀

    I agree.

NCN 55 runs near me and they have sent it up an old railway line, which is fine, till it just ends where the original bridge was taken down.

It then involves a hike a bike up some steps to the canal. Don’t mention the app they brought out. Following that it goes along an old railway which is in a cutting 6ft deep in water.

In reality, the signed route is 2 miles away running through a housing estate that like something off shameless.

Whilst I support Sustrans ethics, I think they need to spend more time actually studying the routes.

Some clown has set up a segment around the cemetry where my family are buried.

I only discovered it when I cycled round to visit a grave of a friends.

I think it’s disrespectful to race round a cemetry.

    On the classic view

Explore > activities > this brings up a map view > go to filter and from the drop down choose cycling and time period go to 365 days > type in your town or postcode.

Should bring up recent activities starting near you.

I’ve a Edge Touring and have given up on the Garmin routing.

Having been on dirt tracks on the road bike and main roads for 90 % of a MTB ride I just plot my own.

Suppose it may get you back to the start if you get proper lost but, like has been said, just download your own.

I go on Garmin Connect and see if anyone has uploaded a ride near where I want to go and put that onto the Edge and see where it takes me. I’ve found routes I didn’t know existed that way.

Bustaspoke, head towards Wigan it’s glorious here.

I set off for a road ride with a jacket on, got a mile and a half down the road and was sweating like a pig.

Lovely ride out just in shirt, was really foggy here this morning when I was out with the dogs.

Be careful if you go down the route of driving it there yourself.

You will obviously need to insure it but some insurances will allow you to drive it there but won’t cover you to drive home if it fails.

I had a VW Polo which was SORNd as I was working on it. Think I was with Lancaster Insurance and I explained to them about the MOT and they said the return journey wouldn’t be covered if it failed as it would be unroadworthy.

Regarding the SORN, best option is to get a written appointment card off the MOT station in case you set off an ANPR in a Police car. You can then show the officer where you are going.

Most of the stuff posted above has described me, not all at the same time thankfully, but various bits and pieces.

I’m lucky to have my mate and his missus to speak to about things. A few weeks ago, I was on the phone to my mate telling him how I was feeling and he told me to ” just book with the ********* doctor like I’ve been telling you, ring me back when you have.

He then went off the phone and turned it off……

Made the appointment and got hold of him to tell him. The Doctor reckons I’ve got some issue which I can’t remember the name of which means I have up and down moods. The Doctor said I was like a roller coaster and moved his hand up and down.

Doctor said it’s not depression and wouldn’t prescribe me anything. He gave me the details of counselling. I’ve not made an appointment as I actually feel better now knowing what it’s, in other words I’m not depressed about being depressed.

I really feel for people who suffer this terrible illness of full blown depression as, knowing how bad I can feel, God knows what they are going through.

Guess The point I’m trying to make is go and see the doctor if you think anything is wrong, it may not be as bad as you feel it is and, if it is, get it sorted.
