Like everyone else said, it’s a northern mill town.

I live between Preston and Manchester and my town is a hole but I can grin and bear it when I can jump in the van and be in the lakes, peaks or dales in an hour.

It will kill the clock and radio presets if it’s gone flat.

I agree that starting small doing repairs etc may be a good business model.

The guy I use when I can’t be bothered repairing or I have cocked something up works out of a shop no bigger than a standard garage that you have on your house.

Full service £50 and he is willing to fit any parts you supply for a reasonable charge. He has that many bikes in for repair, the neighbours think he sells them not just repairs them as they are all locked up outside.

Like has been said, keep calling the Police. They will get fed up and do something about it.

There was a little idiot near me who drove like a clown. I’m not a fusspot but when he handbrake turned into the local petrol station, that was the last straw with me. He had 3 people ring up separately about that one incident. One was on the petrol station (me) another was walking his dog and the last was cycling and got really scared.

Good job I’m good at accents as the 3 people who called the police sounded completely different……… 😀

He had his car taken by a section 56 or something.

I have seen Matt and Chris filming Today.

Looks like typical Top Gear stuff of stupid antics and challenges. Between takes, Matt sneaked off for a cig and Chris just messed about in the car.

    I can give a bit more info if I’m allowed…….. 😀

OP don’t worry about the rides with the STW lot, you will not get dropped or anything.

I’ve only managed one MNPR due to working but I’ve done a few pootles and everyone off here are absolutely fantastic.

Ignore the petty arguments on here, everyone I’ve ever met off here are genuinely superb friendly guys and girls who will do anything to help anyone.

Anxiety and paranoia are my best mates unfortunately and I’ve have treatment for both. I don’t like mixing much with people but I feel so comfortable with everyone off here. Last time I went out I froze at the top of a descent. One of the lads showed me a different route and everyone was waiting for me at the bottom.

I’m only in Bolton so if you want to have chat anytime give me a shout or I will see you in the pub with the STW guys.

Good luck in the future OP.

In terms of the problems with the lease, a local LBS near me shut 2-3 years ago.

I read on a local forum that the landlord had let the LBS have 2 shops for the price of 1 then, one day, decided he wanted the extra income from the second shop so told the LBS that the rent would double.

The space of one shop wasn’t big enough and the owner couldn’t afford the double rent so he had to close down.

Shops been empty since so don’t know what the landlord actually achieved.

I had a similar one last weekend. I was on the Hybrid and had set out on a long ( well for me ) ride of about 50 miles so had a pannier on with my D Lock and few bits of food and drink in it.

The hybrid isn’t light and I’m not one for racing about these days so I was passed whilst going downhill by some bloke on a road bike. Fair enough, lighter bike, thinner tyres no luggage.

What I couldn’t believe was the amount of speed he lost going uphill. He was about 300 – 400 yards in front of me when we got to the bottom of the hill and I stayed in the same gear but stood up into a steady cadence. I had to brake so I didn’t crash into him. I really couldn’t be bothered overtaking because I got the vibes he would be a prat so I just geared it right down and span away behind him.

Got to the flat and he turned to check behind before going round a parked car, saw me and nearly jumped out of his skin 😀

I used to work at a Saab garage about 15 years ago and drove everything from a old 2.0 900 to a 9-3 Viggan

They were great as I was only driving a crappy Escort at the time. My boss gave my 9000 CSE 2.0 lpt to use as a company car. Used to get 45 mpg out if it on a run.

Also had a 9000 Aero upto 147mph on a “private” section of the M5…….

I met muddydwarf at a set of traffic lights at 1.30 on a Sunday morning.

He was doing the Manchester to Blackpool night ride and I had posted up that I would be out with the dog watching as I live on route and he pulled up to say a quick hello.

I’ve been on a peaks pootle and didn’t realise Hora was there until everyone was waiting at a gate and we realised he was no longer with us.

I’ve got to say everyone I’ve met off here are ace.

Mine is about 2 years old and I’ve gone for the replacement at £59, which is being delivered tomorrow.

At least I get a bit of warranty with the new one.

It’s unbelievable the amount of fluff they accumulate under the filter. I even got my STW signature Henry vacuum in and there was still fluff in it.

Im happier paying £59 and knowing I can nip to the shop whilst it’s running without worrying I’m coming back to 3 dead dogs and no house.

I’ve had a runny nose on and off for months. Last week it developed into a cold but, strangely, I only felt crap for about 24 hours.

Mate and his missus and their son were the same, just went as fast as it came.

It’s reached the ” clearing ” stage now where I can’t risk blowing my nose without being in front of a mirror in case of fallout from the tissue…..

I’m guessing being stuck in a car with snotty teenagers 5 days a week and going into a primary school doing Bikeability standing in a freezing playground 1 day a week will eventually build up my immune system.

ears back. He said he teaches people to leave it in gear because it reduces the chances of them hitting the wrong gear and stalling the car in a test but in real life he takes it out of gear.

    +1

When I’ve a new learner, I will get them to wait in gear at lights as they have enough to worry about without them missing 1st when the lights go green. As their experience grows, I get them handbrake neutral, it least some students then are saving a bit of my clutch 😉

Brake to slow, gears to go. Timing upto junctions is something I’m strict on with learners I hate them flying up and slamming on as it shows lack of forward planning.

Stay in whichever gear you are in, get what you need. So, for example, slowing down from a 50 mph road to red lights stay in 5th. If the lights change before stopping get 2nd or 3rd depending on the speed, gradient of road etc.

Never been to Blackpool ever ?!?!? Don’t go anywhere near Central Drive. Seriously.

Depending on your budget, a colleague of mine has one of these

They are pretty small and tuck behind the interior mirror so are not obvious from the outside.

Nearly right ha ha, it needs to be insured before you can tax it.

I posted that link thinking it may not be on the MID system so, therefore, the DVLA site wouldn’t allow it to be taxed.

Really can’t understand it. To tax it you have to have valid insurance, MOT ( if over 3 years ) before it will allow you to tax it so, with those in place, I’ve not a clue. Try later may be a fault on the DVLA website ????

not a clue why it’s not coming up online – it should just be able to tax it if it’s not taxed at the moment.

All the numbers on the V5C/2 visable not damaged etc ?

Correct V5C/2 for that car ?

Best not to use it unless you can tax it online.

Edit :- is it showing up as insured ? http://www.ownvehicle.askmid.com

You can tax it at a Post Office with the V5C/2

    https://www.gov.uk/car-tax-disc-without-v11-reminder

Also says it can take 5 days to update so if it’s still showing as taxed……..

I know nothing about these vehicles but the fire pictures remind me of a one catching fire in the local supermarket car park about 15 years ago.

It wasn’t badly damaged, more internal. The glass was covered in black soot on the inside and, after the fire brigade had finished what they were doing, the owner went back into the supermarket, bought some windolene, cleaned the soot off and set off home 😯

    RIP Sir Terry.

I can only echo what has already been said, another from my childhood gone. My first memory of Sir Terry was on Blankety Blank with his stick microphone.

Just got Sky news on the the presenter said that most of the nation would consider Sir Terry like having a friend in the room if he was on TV or the Radio, I agree with that.

Been a rubbish year with loosing people from my younger days. I had Absolute 80’s on the other day and it was like ” he’s gone, she’s gone……” Make you realise how many people have gone over a few years.

A lot of my favourite TV personalities form my childhood have gone or have turned out to be weirdos…….

Mate fitted it for mates rates.

Thursday work really late, eat, fall asleep on sofa…………

Friday finish about 4, chippy tea, curry at mates, spend Saturday not eating as ate 2 days of calories on Friday.

We have had 3 pubs close in the past 3 years, 2 of these were 5 min walk, one was next door but one.

The closest is becoming a Indian restaurant, another was demolished, the other is now a Costcutter. I was never a big drinker, but I miss having a chat with the regulars who were outside having a smoke when I was passing with the dogs.

There is one 10 mins walk away which I’ve not been too since it was taken over as it is very much food oreintated now as the guy who is landlord has a posh restaurant in the next town. May pop in at some point as I can take my old bike, lock it up outside as its all downhill home 😀

My local Staples does a part exchange for the old cartridges.

They don’t always advertise it so it’s worth asking. I use the same HP as the op and I think a 4 pack cost me about a £10 after trade in.

I had one of those Peco big bore exhausts nicked about 20 years ago.

Mate had his van broken into and all they took was a packet of Jaffa cakes.
